The First Stage Complete

Ashenveli awakened to the rhythmic thrum of hammers finally falling silent.

For weeks, the clang of metal, the scraping of saws, and the murmur of building plans had echoed through the valley. But today-at last-the noise had quieted into something gentler, almost proud. The wind carried the scent of fresh wood, new stone, and hope.

Heldric stood on the central rise overlooking the village.

His massive arms crossed over his chest, sweat still wet on his brow, his beard dusty with sawdust and grit.

Behind him, his brothers stood just as proudly-all of them exhausted, but smiling in a way that only builders who created something meaningful could.

Voltaro approached from the path below, Raven at his side and Selena just behind, her silver-white hair lifting in the morning breeze. Mira and her three trainees paused their sewing outside the workshop to watch the men gather on the hill.

Heldric turned, straightened, and placed a fist over his chest.

"Voltaro," he said, voice deep and steady, "the first stage is complete."

Voltaro's eyes sharpened. "Report."

Heldric nodded. "Housing, workshop structures, clean water channels, basic roads, and guard posts-all finished. Enough for every villager to live safely this season."

Raven whistled under his breath. "That fast... you and your brothers did miracles, Heldric."

Heldric grunted. "We only followed the vision, Raven. And Ashenveli's people did their part."

Selena stepped closer, smiling softly. "No village has risen as quickly as ours... not even the big cities can match this."

Voltaro studied the village spread below.

Houses stood neat and strong, smoke rising from new chimneys.

Children played freely. Women carried baskets of food.

Men stood guard at the new watchtowers. The roads connected every section, clear and structured.

The water channel glistened like a small river, bringing life to the land.

Ashenveli-once a dying patch of broken earth-was becoming a true settlement.

Voltaro exhaled slowly.

"Well done," he said at last.

Heldric's brothers exchanged proud glances. Every insult they'd once endured in distant kingdoms, every dismissal and mockery-they felt none of that here. Ashenveli had given them purpose. And under Voltaro... they had become more than builders.

They had become pillars.

Heldric stepped forward. "Now that stage one is done, we can accommodate enough people for the coming months. But what next, Voltaro? What do you want us to build?"

Voltaro didn't answer immediately. Instead, he looked down at the villagers gathering near the square. More and more of them were approaching-the farmers, the hunters, the rescued slaves, the orphan boys, the newly trained girls from the workshop. Everyone sensed something important was coming.

Voltaro finally spoke.

"Now," he said, "we build the future."

Heldric bowed his head slightly. "Give the order."

Voltaro turned to Raven. "Gather all villagers. Everyone. Young, old, workers, guards, artisans. Tell them to meet in the central square."

Raven nodded. "On it."

Selena raised her hand. "I will help."

The two darted off in opposite directions-Raven with fiery speed, Selena with cool precision. Within minutes, the entire village began flowing toward the square, murmuring with anticipation.

Heldric looked confused but eager. "Voltaro... what are you planning?"

Voltaro's eyes narrowed slightly, glowing with purpose. "Ashenveli cannot survive on hope alone. We need resources. We need systems. We need revenue."

Heldric blinked. "Money?"

Voltaro nodded. "Yes. To strengthen defenses. Buy materials. Support the people. Expand the territory. If we rely only on farming and simple work, Ashenveli will stagnate."

Heldric scratched his bearded chin. "True. But how do we start bringing money in?"

Voltaro gave a small smile. "That is why I need everyone gathered. From now on, Ashenveli must function not just as a village... but as an economy."

The Gathering of Ashenveli

The central square filled rapidly. Children climbed onto rooftops. Men leaned on newly built posts. Women stood with baskets half-finished. Mira and her trainees closed the workshop doors and hurried over. Even the elders shuffled forward, curiosity bright in their weathered eyes.

Voltaro stepped onto the elevated stone platform at the front-constructed only the day before by Heldric's brothers.

He lifted a hand.

Silence fell instantly.

"Ashenveli," he began, his voice steady and powerful, "we have achieved something no other village has done in such a short time."

The crowd murmured in agreement.

"A broken land has become a home. A scattered people have become a family. And all of this was built by your hands... your sweat... your faith."

Heldric lowered his head proudly. The villagers smiled, some with tears forming.

"But," Voltaro continued, "this is only the beginning. The first stage is done. The groundwork is complete. Now we must take the next step."

The villagers leaned forward instinctively.

"We must build a system that keeps Ashenveli strong-not for a week, not for a season, but for generations. To do that, we must create our own source of revenue. Our own wealth. Our own economy."

Some villagers looked uncertain. Others nodded eagerly. A few whispered, unsure of how a small village could achieve such a thing.

Voltaro raised his hand again.

"I will explain."

Selena and Raven stepped to each side of him, standing like pillars of flame and ice. Heldric and his brothers joined them. Jerk stood in front with Mira beside him, her presence giving quiet reassurance to the young craft trainees in the back.

Voltaro pointed toward the various parts of the village.

"To build a strong economy, we need multiple pillars.

Each one will support Ashenveli."

He lifted one finger.

"First: Agriculture.

Our soil is fertile again thanks to the rebuilt water channels. We will grow crops not only for ourselves but for trade with nearby towns."

Villagers nodded with pride.

"Second: Crafting and Tailoring.

Mira will lead the new clothes-making sector. Clothing made with skill brings good coin. Her work will represent our village."

Mira gasped softly but held back tears as the villagers turned and smiled warmly at her.

Voltaro held up a third finger.

"Third: Construction and Tradecraft.

Heldric and his brothers are the backbone of Ashenveli's build strength. We will use their skills to offer construction help to neighboring places-for payment."

Heldric puffed with pride.

Voltaro lifted a fourth finger.

"Fourth: Training and Adventuring.

Raven, Selena, and my elite group will take quests, earn rewards, and build our reputation."

The younger villagers cheered at that.

Finally, Voltaro opened his entire hand.

"And fifth: Internal Market.

We will build a small marketplace here in Ashenveli. Our people will sell goods, services, crafts, and food. Money will circulate inside our home, strengthening everyone."

The murmurs grew louder-excited, inspired, driven.

Voltaro's voice thundered across the square.

"Ashenveli will not just survive.

It will rise.

It will become a village known for strength, fairness, craftsmanship, and unity."

A roar erupted-cheers, clapping, shouts of pride.

Voltaro waited until the excitement softened. Then he spoke calmly:

"To move into our second stage of growth... I need every villager to work together."

The crowd nodded without hesitation.

Voltaro lifted his hand once more.

"Today, we begin the next chapter."

The Division of Roles and the First Orders

Voltaro stepped off the platform and began giving direct instructions.

To Heldric:

"Begin planning stage two. We need a marketplace, storage barns, trade routes, and an outer wall. Your brothers will assist."

Heldric bowed deeply. "Consider it done, Boss."

To Mira:

"You will expand your workshop. Train more girls. Prepare sets of clothes we can sell outside the village-simple designs first, then the finer ones."

Mira placed her hand on her heart. "Yes... Voltaro. I will not fail."

To Raven:

"Take a group of young fighters. Train them for official quests. Ashenveli needs formally recognized adventurers."

Raven smirked. "Finally. I've been waiting for this."

To Selena:

"You will oversee the orphan children. Train them in basic magic control. Their future will be built here."

Selena bowed slightly. "With pleasure."

To Jerk:

"Assist Mira. Handle procurement. Order fabrics, threads, dyes. And help maintain order around the workshop."

Jerk saluted dramatically. "Leave it to me, Boss!"

Voltaro then turned to the villagers.

Farmers stepped forward-ready to cultivate new fields.

Hunters prepared to scout wild lands.

Builders waited for blueprints.

Craftsmen sharpened tools.

Children watched in awe.

The elders whispered that Ashenveli was blessed.

Voltaro lifted his voice once more.

"From this day, Ashenveli begins earning revenue.

We will build prosperity with our own hands."

The villagers erupted again-shouting, cheering, chanting the name that bound them all.

"ASHENVELI! ASHENVELI! ASHENVELI!"

The mountains echoed the chant back like a promise.

A promise that this village... once forgotten... would soon be spoken about far beyond its borders.

Voltaro watched them with calm, fiery determination.

The first stage was complete.

Now it was time for Ashenveli to step into its destiny.

Too be continue...
