The Magic Ore

The rhythmic clanging of tools against stone echoed through the vast network of tunnels. Sparks leapt from iron striking rock, mixing with the groans of shifting earth as the mining teams pushed deeper into the newly cleared chamber.

For three days straight, Krogar and his orc team had worked harder than any group Ashenveli had ever seen.

The human workers-though still wary-were slowly adjusting to the orcs' raw strength, monstrous stamina, and surprisingly steady discipline.

Krogar, now officially named Mining Chief, oversaw the operations with the authority of a seasoned war leader.

Morning torches were freshly lit when a deep, sharp crack thundered through Sector Four.

CRRRRACK!

The sound shot through the mine like lightning.

Human workers froze.

Orc warriors stiffened.

Even Raven-who had accompanied Krogar to inspect the deeper tunnels-looked up sharply.

Krogar raised a hand. "Silence!"

The entire mine fell hushed.

A second crack split the air, louder than the first.

CRRRACK-BOOM!

Dust fell from the ceiling. The earth trembled. Every worker-human and orc-instinctively stepped back.

"What was that?" a human miner stuttered.

Raven narrowed his eyes. "Something broke through."

Krogar growled softly, placing a hand on the tunnel wall. "This is not collapse. This is... release."

Voltaro and Selena arrived moments later, alerted by a runner who sprinted from the mines.

Selena caught her breath. "What happened?"

"Something's cracking open," Raven replied. "A chamber wall, or... something inside it."

Voltaro stepped forward, eyes sharp. "Take me to the sound."

Krogar nodded. "Follow."

The Glowing Crystal

They hurried down the newly reinforced tunnel. Torches flickered violently as the air seemed to thrum with energy-pulsing like a heartbeat coming from the rock itself.

The final corner led into a narrow pocket Krogar's team had been chipping away at for days. The moment they rounded the bend, the source of the sound became clear.

A thick layer of stone had split apart, and from the crack, blue light seeped out-soft, yet impossibly bright.

The workers gasped.

Selena's eyes widened. "Mana light?"

Voltaro stepped closer. The crack widened on its own with a soft, melodic hum, almost like a song of ancient power resonating through the chamber.

Huuuuum...

Then, the final shards of stone fell away, revealing a fully exposed crystalline cluster embedded deep in the wall.

And it glowed.

A crystal the size of a small boulder, pure and radiant, shimmering with shifting colors-blue, violet, and faint silver. Raw, living mana pulsed inside it, swirling like captured starlight.

A worker whispered, trembling, "Is that...?"

Krogar answered with pride swelling in his voice.

"Yes. The first magic ore."

Voltaro approached the crystal slowly. The closer he came, the stronger his system responded.

A notification appeared in his mind, glowing with golden script only he could see:

Voltaro's eyes sharpened. So this is it... a treasure vein hidden beneath Ashenveli for who knows how long.

Krogar placed a hand gently on the stone. The crystal glowed brighter beneath the touch of orc skin.

He exhaled. "This... this is what old orc tales spoke about. Mineral spirits. Sleeping stones. Magic ore that only chooses to awaken when worthy hands approach."

Selena stepped beside Voltaro. "This could change everything. Weapons, defenses, trade, alliances..."

Raven nodded slowly, eyes calculating. "Or enemies. If anyone outside hears we found this, they'll come for it."

Voltaro agreed-and that made his next words crucial.

"We extract this ore quietly," he declared. "No spreading the news yet. Krogar, you choose six of your strongest orcs and three humans you trust. Only they work on magic ore extraction."

Krogar slammed his fist across his chest. "Understood."

Voltaro turned to the workers. "Everyone else will mine other areas. And no one speaks of what you saw here."

The workers nodded quickly. Even without threats, the aura of the crystal commanded silence.

Krogar personally led the extraction. With reverence and precision, he directed his team as they chipped away around the crystal. Orc strength was used with incredible control-like giants sculpting glass. The glow intensified as the crystal loosened.

Selena used her ice magic to cool surrounding stone, preventing overheating.

Raven checked structural support beams, reinforcing weak points to prevent collapse.

Voltaro oversaw everything, analyzing ore purity and density through his system.

After two hours of careful work, the crystal finally detached.

It floated slightly in place, humming softly.

Even Krogar stepped back in awe.

Voltaro stepped forward and placed both hands on it.

HUUUUM - FWOOOM!

In an instant, the crystal released a pulse of energy that swept through the chamber. Torches flickered wildly. Dust spiraled upward. Every miner felt the surge of mana flood their bodies.

The children in the mine shivered but smiled.

Selena gasped. "It reacted to Voltaro."

Raven raised his brows. "Your system must be resonating with it."

Voltaro felt the raw power inside the crystal-alive, waiting to be shaped.

Then he nodded firmly. "Let's take it to Heldric."

Heldric-the master blacksmith of Ashenveli-was already busy smelting copper and iron when Voltaro, Krogar, and the others rushed in carrying the glowing ore. The moment the crystal's light filled the workshop, Heldric dropped his hammer with a loud clang.

"By the gods..." Heldric whispered. "Is that-no, it can't be..."

Krogar puffed proudly. "Magic ore. Found deep in the mines."

Voltaro placed the crystal gently on the reinforced anvil. The table trembled as the ore hummed louder.

Heldric stepped forward like a man approaching a sacred treasure. He inspected the ore, tracing the glowing ridges.

"The purity... the density... I've only heard stories of mana-crystal ore." His voice trembled. "If I melt this down... I can forge ingots more valuable than gold. No kingdom has this quality anymore."

Voltaro nodded. "That's why I brought it to you."

Heldric grinned wildly. "Then stand back. I'm about to make history."

Heldric prepared his forge to its maximum temperature. Flames roared. The heat in the workshop surged. The humans stepped back, but the orcs stood proudly, unaffected.

Heldric lifted the glowing crystal using enchanted tongs. The moment it touched the furnace-

FWOOM!

Blue flames erupted, swirling upward in a cyclone of mana.

Selena gasped, shielding her eyes. "It's reacting to the heat!"

"Good," Heldric growled. "Means it's ready."

Raven observed the process carefully. "Just don't blow up the village."

Heldric laughed. "Not unless Voltaro drops another artifact in my furnace."

"Once," Voltaro muttered. "It happened once."

The crystal melted slowly, glowing brighter with every second. Streams of molten blue liquid dripped into the casting mold-shimmering like liquid moonlight.

After hours of intense smelting, Heldric finally pulled the mold out with tongs thicker than a man's arm.

He cooled the metal with a controlled burst of Selena's ice.

Steam exploded through the air.

Then-

CHING!

The mold opened.

Inside lay five flawless magic ore ingots, glowing gently with inner mana, each one engraved with natural runic veins.

Heldric placed them on the table reverently. "Behold... Magic Ore Ingots of Ashenveli."

Krogar stared in awe.

Raven let out a low whistle.

Selena smiled brightly. "They're beautiful."

Voltaro stepped forward, lifting one carefully. The ingot pulsed with soft energy as if acknowledging him.

A system window appeared.

Voltaro smiled with satisfaction.

Heldric clasped Voltaro's hand. "Ashenveli just became one of the richest villages in all ten kingdoms."

Voltaro nodded. "And we keep this quiet. For now."

Raven crossed his arms. "So what's the next move?"

Voltaro placed the ingot back on the table, decision firm in his eyes.

"We start taking mining orders from outside villages."

Everyone looked at him.

Krogar grinned. "You trust my tribe to manage the mine?"

Voltaro nodded. "Krogar, from today, you are not only Mining Chief of Ashenveli-you oversee all ore production and trade. Your orcs have proven more loyal than anyone."

Krogar bowed deeply. "I will serve with honor."

Heldric smirked. "Then prepare, Voltaro. The world is about to hear the name Ashenveli."

Voltaro looked at the glowing ingots.

His future.

His power.

His village.

"All right," he said softly. "Let's begin the next era of Ashenveli
