The Fairway Players’ Sleep Out
The Fairway Players’ Sleep Out
Kevin
Nicky-Rose
While Fran and Father Josh’s affair is conspicuous in their correspondence, Kevin and Nicky-Rose are almost certainly having a secret affair of their own that is much less obvious.
Did Issy accidentally cause the light to fall? She admits stumbling up the stairs behind the stage and says:
I had to grab one of the rigging ropes to stop myself hitting the floor! That was the very moment the light fell down and everyone screamed!
The moment Fran gives her own sleeping bag to Amelia is deeply uncomfortable.
Fran recognizes the fine line between her desire to help people and look after her own needs, but there’s also a fine line between people who need help and those who are prepared to take advantage.
Fran feels responsible for other people’s actions; a self-destructive trait.
She’s a voluntary counselor, not a professional, or perhaps she’d have professional support in situations like this.
Why does Father Josh tell the ghost story? Is it to encourage people to avoid the lane where he meets Fran?
The disappearance of Tiffany Ramirez in June 2024 seems to coincide with Nicky-Rose falling out with Trina and leaving Twin Star. Then there’s the mystery six months between then and her arrival in Lockwood. What accounts for that?
Nicky-Rose arrives on January 2 and she and SJ appear to be keeping a secret from their mother (and everyone else).
It can’t be a pregnancy, as that would be obvious by the end of April.
One can infer that Nicky-Rose told Sarah-Jane her secret on January 4 when the sisters had afternoon tea at Mirage:
Sarah-Jane
It’s a lot to take in.
Nicky-Rose
Same here.
Sarah-Jane
You can tell Mum.
Nicky-Rose
DO NOT TELL MUM SJ I’m fucking serious.
Sarah-Jane
She’ll find out sooner or later.
Nicky-Rose
She won’t. I’ll deal with it myself.
And later:
Nicky-Rose
I need peace and quiet to get through this.
Sarah-Jane
Am I literally the only person who knows?
Nicky-Rose
Please, please, please keep it that way.
Then on February 11:
Sarah-Jane
You should tell her. Everything. You are living in her house, after all.
Nicky-Rose
Nothing to tell. It’s over.
When, on January 4, Sarah-Jane tells Carol:
Don’t worry, Mum. Nicky-Rose is fine. Whatever’s brought her back is to do with Trina and the company. She hasn’t said exactly what, but there’s been a falling-out.
Sarah-Jane knows that her falling-out with Trina is only part of the reason she returned to Lockwood. Something far darker happened in Bridgetown, six months before Nicky-Rose came back to Lockwood with documents that implicate herself and Trina in a missing person case.

Femi Hassan
We hope you’re feeling better today, Mr. Tanner.
Charlotte Holroyd
We have a document outlining our thoughts about the case so far.

Roderick Tanner, KC
Thank you. I have it but not my glasses. Nurse hidden them. Sharon will bring my spares later.
* * *
Roderick Tanner, KC
Any thoughts who the murderer might be, or who they kill?
Charlotte Holroyd
Have you read this batch yourself, Mr. Tanner?
Roderick Tanner, KC
Been a tad distracted.
Charlotte Holroyd
I’m in court again today.
Roderick Tanner, KC
Performing in the theater of the law. Meanwhile I’m in the operating theater having something-or-other performed on me.
Femi Hassan
We hope it goes well, sir.
Roderick Tanner, KC
It will. Have a list of suspects and victims ready for when I come round.
Femi Hassan
Is that the best use of our time?
Roderick Tanner, KC
I’ll need something to while away the hours before I toddle home.
Charlotte Holroyd
We’ll do our best.
Roderick Tanner, KC
Once I have it, Sharon will send you the next batch. Sharon!
Femi Hassan
She’s still not in the group, but I’ll email her.
Femi
He’s using us as a distraction.
Charlotte
There’s nothing I can do today. Sorry. Have to focus on this case.
Femi
Ok.
Charlotte
Maybe it’s for the best if we don’t send our thoughts just yet, seeing as he’s having an op?
Femi
I’ll draw up a list of suspects for when he comes round.
Charlotte
Sure you have time?
Femi
I’ll make time.
Possible scenarios [draft], September 10, 2025
Scenario 1
Victim: Tiffany Ramirez
Murderer: Twin Star Entertainment, corporate negligence
Motive: Protection of finances/business and/or personal reputation.
Tiffany is officially “missing” but Trina and Nicky-Rose both know she’s dead and have covered it up, along with whatever role their company played in her death.
Scenario 2
Victim: Nicky-Rose
Murderer: Trina Neale (or someone employed by her)
Motive: To keep secret whatever is in the documents.
Twin Star Entertainment failed in its duty of care to Tiffany Ramirez, resulting in her disappearance and/or death.
Scenario 3
Victim: Elizabeth Harries
Murderer: Fran Elroy-Jones
Motive: Love. Fran wants to free Father Josh so he can be with her.
Now Issy knows about the affair, she’ll tell Nicky-Rose, making two people who know that Fran has a motive for killing Elizabeth.
Charlotte
Thanks. First two more likely?
Femi
Clutching at straws by the last one. Don’t want to imagine the same scenario could apply to Nicky-Rose and Sarah-Jane over NR’s affair with Kevin.
Charlotte
Not like you to let feelings get in the way of a good argument.
Femi
Is it not?
Charlotte
We can’t trust Nicky-Rose in what she says or does. Not until we know what happened in Bridgetown.
Femi
Her claim that loan documents in her name were forged by Trina, leading to the sale of her house and car, is not obviously connected to the disappearance of Tiffany Ramirez.
Charlotte
There’s still the mystery six months between Nicky-Rose leaving Twin Star and her arrival in Lockwood.
Charlotte
I’m losing a case for my client and this may be my sleepless delirium talking, but I’ve just had a thought.
Charlotte
Could Nicky-Rose have been accused, tried, and convicted of a crime in Barbados?
Charlotte
During the mystery six months… could she have been in prison?
Lockwood Murder Case WhatsApp group, September 10, 2025:
Roderick Tanner, KC added Sharon Collins to the group
Roderick Tanner, KC
Round. Sharon can you?
Sharon Collins
Mr. Tanner has asked me to send you another file of correspondence. Have you both got it?
Femi Hassan
I’ve received it, thank you, Sharon.
Charlotte Holroyd
Likewise, thank you. Hope you’re feeling well, Mr. Tanner.
Roderick Tanner, KC
Faster might not have time.
Sharon Collins
Mr. Tanner is still groggy from his anesthetic. He means this is an ongoing and time-sensitive case.
Charlotte Holroyd
You could send us the documents in one go. We can read them all while you recover.
Roderick Tanner, KC
No! Can’t have you getting ahead of me. Sharon!
Sharon Collins
That’s a good idea, Mr. Tanner.
Roderick Tanner, KC
No, it isn’t! Don’t send any more until I say so!
Femi Hassan
Thank you, Sharon. We’ll read this batch today.
Charlotte
What did he mean by “might not have time”?
Femi
I don’t know. We’d better read it now.
Charlotte
The last batch ended on April 27, the morning after the sleep out. This one jumps BACK in time to the night OF the sleep out.
