"Will you cancel our boating trip because now you'll be working at that famous restaurant?" Rehaan walked out of the bathroom.
Shahwar had changed into another dress for their short outing but started to frown seeing Rehaan in a shirt that was unbuttoned from the top exposing his chest a bit. Who was he trying to seduce with that? But who was she to ask anything.
"I feel so suspicious." She huffed. "They are known for not hiring people even with experience, I wonder how they said yes to me." She slid her purse over her shoulder.
Rehaan at once grew alarmed, "They're no dumb people, I'm sure your cooking skills left a remarkable impression on them." He cleared his throat knowing the truth behind it.
He was the reason why his wife was hired but of course the restaurant would benefit because she did make outrageously delicious food.
He'd never let Shahwar know. He was already trying to end the lifespan of the restaurant that had rejected his wife.
Who would say no to Rehaan Kazmi? He could send tons of people to any restaurant with one recommendation and the owner would flourish with money within days.
"Hmm." She nodded and pouted to herself.
"Okay, now don't forget your promise, you said you'll take me to show the city around." He took her hand in his and tried to change the subject.
"I never promised, I only said I would take you." She tried to furrow her brows together with all her strength but ended up looking like a cute little bunny.
"I only do commitments my love, remember?" He bent his face closer to hers and Shahwar instantly stepped backwards away from him.
"Door rahein aap." She turned her head sideways.
(You stay away.)
"Kaisay?" He feigned innocence.
(How?)
"Jaisay pehlay rehtay thay hamesha. Ghussa kar kar ke." She was basically talking to herself, but so softly and adorably that he wanted to forget about the boating and carry her to bed.
(Just the way you used to before. By getting angry all the time.)
"Shahwar, meri jaan." He called her with such affection that she wanted to melt at it at once, then she turned around to look at him and her eyes fell on his unbuttoned shirt for trying to get attention from women out in the city, her softness vanished making her frown.
(Shahwar, my love.)
"Chalein wese bhi dair horahi hai." She opened the door and went out.
(Let's go we're getting late anyway.)
"Hold on," He went to the lounge and came back with a huge bar of chocolate in his hands, "Your snack for during the drive till we get there." He knew she loved that chocolate. One of the few things he knew about her very well.
"I'm not—"
"Jaan, there's plenty more that I've got, so you want me to get something else?" He started looking at the bar of chocolate with a defeated stare.
"No, no, it's fine. I'll take this." She did want to eat it. But now she was going to not show it that she did, she'd rather behave like she was eating out of courtesy.
"Okay, let's go." He tried to hold her other free hand but she used that one as well to unwrap the bar and walked out.
Soon after they reached there and were waiting for their ticket to be given to them Shahwar saw few women staring at Rehaan who was standing behind her. She turned to see him and he immediately smiled at her whilst she gave an angry pout now. Rehaan felt confused at her reaction.
When they were given their ticket the guide added a woman to their boat as well. A very beautiful Spanish woman, who started to pass smiles at Rehaan the moment they were on board.
Shahwar felt hot air fuming out of her nose and ears looking at the scene.
She wanted to push the woman away but then she turned again to look at Rehaan and her eyes saw the open collar and his vulgar attempt at dressing up to gauge attention from women like her.
Rehaan wanted to hold her hand throughout but she kept on turning angrier without saying anything.
"Sab kuch jaan ke kiya hai inho ne!" Shahwar furiously muttered to herself.
(He's done it all purposely!)
"Huh?" Rehaan bent his head down to her face level not understanding what she had said, "Shahwar, did you say something my love?"
"No." It was spoken with much indignation.
Rehaan couldn't gather why she was upset with him right now.
Suddenly the woman walked towards Rehaan and started to ask him random questions like if he had been here before or not, but before Rehaan could respond Shahwar had stomped away from them.
She didn't know that Rehaan had not even answered the woman and had told her to mind her own business.
He followed where Shahwar was, "Jaan, what's wrong? Do you not like the lake-view?"
Shahwar stayed quiet not responding to him. "What is it Shahwar? Are you not enjoying here?"
"It's not for me to enjoy anyway. We came here for your enjoyment and it surely seems like you're having a good time." She pressed her lips together trying to not start with her outburst.
"What? I don't understand." He stepped closer to her. They both were standing on the edge of the boat.
"Mene bola hai na aap se door rahein!" She pushed Rehaan just a little and he lost his balance falling off the boat and into the lake.
(I have told you to stay away!)
Shahwar felt her heart lose its life, "Rehaan!" The person who was rowing and the Spanish woman both came hurrying towards Shahwar trying to locate him in the water but he was nowhere to be seen. "Rehaan!"
She told them he knew how to swim but her eyes started to water when after one minute he hadn't swam up. "Rehaan! Rehaan!"
Shahwar decided to jump in herself, then bent down ready to dive in, "I'm here, Shahwar." Rehaan's voice came from behind her.
She turned to see him standing all drenched in water and she at once threw her arms around him crying, "Kahan thay aap!"
(Where were you!)
"Pani mein. Bohat maza araha tha."
(In the water. It was a lot of fun.)
She looked up at him and touched his cheek, "Sorry."
"Why would you say that?" He wiped her tears with his already soaked hands.
"Ghussa hain?" She knew how he was, he'd be furious if anyone would've done that to him.
(Are you angry?)
"Kis baat ka ghussa? Please stop crying it's a very shallow lake, no one can drown in it, I think the boat is a scam my love." She hugged him tightly again.
(Angry for what?)
"Then why did it take you so long to get back up here?" She knew he was lying.
"I told you, I was enjoying inside. It's nice water." Rehaan smiled making her stunned when she lifted her head slightly to his face.
"Ghar ja ke ghussa karengay mujhpe?" She was feeling scared a little.
(Will you be angry at me when we go home?)
"Shahwar." She didn't understand the expression on his face again. It was the same as earlier before lunch.
"Your clothes are getting soaked up too," he started to pat her dress with his hands, "They're not completely ruined, thank goodness." A sigh of relief came from him.
The man and woman on the boat were staring at them while Shahwar was standing there astounded at her husband's behavior.
When the boat ride was over they both went back to Shahwar's house without any further conversations between them, though Rehaan had wanted to take her somewhere for dinner, but she was too quiet that he decided not to say anything.
"Why were you upset with me? Did I do something wrong again?" Rehaan held her hand before going inside the house when they stepped out of the car.
"Close your buttons. Chichoray lag rahay hain aap bohat." He internally cursed himself for listening to Iraj about her suggestion for dressing up that day. She'd told him that he'd look younger if he stopped dressing up like he's going to a funeral at the church.
(You look very cheap.)
Rehaan looked down at his shirt buttons and then smirked, "Then button them up, yourself."
"Why should I?" Her lips protruded into a soft frown.
"You're supposed to do my buttons, a commitment is a commitment." He pressed his lips together and held his smile back.
Shahwar recalled the memory of it and her eyes started to warm up with tears, it was a completely different time of her life, she was happy back then, she knew it was the most treasured and short lived time of her life.
"Jaan?" He saw her nose turning red and eyes starting to water, "It's okay, I'm sorry, I will do it myself, don't—I'm an idiot." He started to button his shirt as fast as he could.
"Please, please Shahwar, I'm sorry." Rehaan started to rub her hands with his thumbs holding them down, "Look, I did them myself, you don't have to worry."
"I'm alright." She slipped her hands out of his slowly and moved to the entrance door with her keys that she'd taken out from her purse to open it.
"Can I ask you for something?" Shahwar turned to see his face, "I wanted to take you somewhere tomorrow for lunch, will you come?"
Shahwar saw he wasn't meeting her eyes at first but then he looked up at her with desperate anticipation.
She was blinking and looking at him, not answering and not realizing that she hadn't responded to him. "Or do you hate me too much already after the boating experience?"
She could never hate him. It wasn't possible for her to. "Will you wear your shirt like a teenager tomorrow too?"
"No, no, promise. I won't. I promise nothing bad will happen tomorrow my love. I'll wear whatever you want."
"I'm no one to say anything." Shahwar turned back to the door inserting the key in the keyhole.
"You're my everything." Rehaan rested his head on her shoulder from behind and wrapped his hands around her stomach, "I love you."
