ELEVEN
ZOMBIE
After tossing and turning for what felt like forever, I finally got out of bed and got dressed in all-black gear.
I needed to see Lennie. I needed to make sure she was okay.
That someone was watching over her. I couldn’t ask Kade or anyone else about the protection schedule without giving off a weird vibe, so it was up to me to make sure that it was handled.
“You are coming off stalkerish,” Arrow said in my head as I walked out the door. “Love this for you!” he called behind me as I pulled up my hood.
Lennie’s condo was only a ten-minute walk from my house, which made it easier to try to tell myself that this behavior was acceptable.
As I walked up to the building, it was abundantly clear that this would be more of a challenge than I initially realized. She was on the second floor, for one, and at this moment all her lights were out.
Well duh, dumbass, it’s eleven at night.
I stood watching the building, making sure to stay in the bushes where I couldn’t be seen. As far as I could tell, no one was watching over her, and that was a big fucking problem in my book.
After about thirty minutes, I saw the light of her bedroom come on and the shadow of two figures coming into the room. Searing hot anger rose inside me when I saw that Lennie was making out with none other than Bohdi. My hands balled into fists while watching the pair suck each other's faces off.
From what I could see, he lay her on the bed and moved south. I knew what was happening and couldn’t understand why I was feeling white-hot rage.
Mine, was all I could think. Rationally, I knew I had no right to think it, but the possessive beast in me wanted to be the one claiming her and making her feel good.
Just as I saw him move up her silhouetted body and appear to be lining himself up at her core, I grabbed the closest thing to me and chucked it at her window.
The rock soared through the glass, breaking the silence of the night with a loud crash.
Neighbors’ lights instantly flicked on, and I saw Bohdi’s naked form fill the window.
I hid behind the nearest bush, shocked at my own actions. Why had I just done that? Why had I felt the need to interrupt their good time?
The darkness embedded in my soul knew the answer. Lennie was mine.
I didn’t stay for much longer, knowing that Bohdi would be calling Kade to send more men over.
I stormed into my home and slammed the door shut with purpose before ripping off my hoodie and stomping toward the vast kitchen.
Moving quickly, I opened the liquor cabinet and grabbed a bottle of bourbon, took off the cap, and downed several swigs before placing the bottle on the granite countertop.
I heard a whistle and looked over to see Arrow leaning on the side of the entryway with his arms crossed over his chest.
“Jeez man, even got the hard stuff.”
“Shut up,” I bit back, not in the mood to hear my best friend’s voice.
Arrow put his hands up in surrender. “Don’t bite my head off when you’re the one who decided to go in guns blazing and throw a fucking rock through the window.”
I let out a growl of annoyance. But now that my rage was at a simmer, I couldn’t help but feel guilty about what I had done.
I barely knew Lennie, for Christ’s sake.
I never got obsessive over girls. Ever. Sure, I’d had my fair share of dates and hooking up after Cassie but for the past year that had been the last thing on my mind.
I could feel myself starting to spiral with wicked thoughts about what I wanted to do to Bohdi now that he had touched what was mine.
“Yeah, great idea, dumbass. Let’s just have the Italian mafia after you. That will go over swimmingly, especially now that Phantom is with the DON! And you’re in bed with the Ricci Empire.” Arrow tried to reason.
But I was past the point of reason. At that moment, I knew I had to get closer to her. I just needed to devise a plan.
