Chapter 4

Caleb

Iknow I am pushing Lucas to his limits as we climb the path towards the lake. I know mystery girl got a good head start. That doesn’t mean if we really try and hopefully she stops to sight see we can catch up.

“Okay dude what the hell is going on?” Lucas growls out of clenched teeth. His coffee has not had enough time to set in obviously.

“While you were getting your beauty sleep,” He laughs “I saw the vision of my future wife.” I hear him stumble behind me but I keep hiking, we are starting on the small incline.

“She was standing there, man. Like the sun was shining on her giving her this ethereal look.” I stop suddenly, Lucas thankfully paying enough attention to not take me out.

“Jesus dude. Are you high? Did you get into something while I was asleep?” Lucas stares at me hard. He knows I won’t do drugs, hell I barely drink. My dad was a grade A asshole and an alcoholic.

“I am telling you, her and her friend are on this trail and I have to see her again.” He must see it in my face.

He nods, walking past me where I am still standing he pats me on the shoulder.

That is that. We don’t say anything, I just follow him for the next three miles.

I almost forget why we are even on this adventure.

Thankfully Lucas doesn’t. He has the map out and is using his pens to make sure to mark every marked tree.

My mind just keeps returning to the brown hair goddess.

My mind replaying every detail. One of my quirks, if you will, is having a picture memory.

While I was too far away to see the color of her eyes I could tell she was used to working out, or always being active.

She reminds me of the girl I met at a sports camp one summer in high school.

The girl who was just good at every sport.

Her muscles were defined. She ate all their healthy food with a smile but also didn’t hide her excitement when we made s’mores.

Her eyes the color of the chocolate bar that had been on her cheek.

She was the only girl who ever treated me like I was someone back then.

She laughed at my jokes. She knew all the Star Wars references and she had even read the entire Harry Potter series.

I was skinny, braces, glasses and flat out nerdy.

Camp was supposed to toughen me up according to my father.

It just taught me that sports did not excite me.

The only thing I regret about not going back to sports camp is finding McKenna or at least getting her number. All I knew is she lived around Seattle.

“The lake is just ahead. I think we should stop and drink up before continuing.” Lucas doesn’t stop. I try to pay better attention around us. I mean Lucas shouldn't be the only one gathering data. Especially since we are going to be partners in business.

Lucas starts to slow and I walk up so we are walking side by side.

“So what is it about this girl? I have never seen you like this before. Usually girls aren’t a distraction.” I smile because Lucas isn’t wrong.

“I don't know man. It was like I was called to her.” Just as soon as the words are out of my mouth do we turn, walking into the small picnic area at the lake. I had heard the view is gorgeous and I am sure it is but the woman standing in front of me is what takes my breath away.

Her brown hair is starting to loosen from the high ponytail.

She is standing there, her back pack half on one shoulder, it's obvious her and her friend are trying to leave. I was right about her height. She isn’t very tall, maybe coming up to my chest. She isn’t wearing her sweatshirt anymore and the tank top she is wearing hugs her curves just right.

Her eyes are warm chocolate brown. Her lips are plump and kissable.

My brain malfunctions. My instinct is just to walk right up and kiss her.

I almost do just that if it weren’t for Lucas clearing his throat.

I look around and notice her friend is smiling at the two of us just standing there.

“Hi. I’m…”

“Caleb.” The gorgeous woman says my name like it's a prayer coming off her lips. But then it dawns on me. I had dreamt of her saying my name like this for years because she is.

“McKenna”
