Chapter 4
Landon
I’d been right; my girl was rocking her signing gig.
A steady stream of readers lined up at her table, and I hadn’t been able to get to her for over an hour, but I was happy to watch from afar. Though the moment there was a small break, I made my move.
“Hmm, these look interesting,” I said as I ran my hand lightly across the top of her display of books. “I think I’d like a copy of this one, though.”
When I pointed to the specific book in question, my wife smirked. “Good choice. I was truly inspired when I wrote this book.”
I picked up the book and held it against my chest. “Is that so?”
Our gazes locked, and her captivating blue eyes danced with passion. “It’s an epic love story, with its ups and downs, but a true happily-ever-after that is unforgettable.”
“That it is,” I replied, my voice husky with emotion.
While I had read the book, I hadn’t really needed to because…
I’d lived it.
But I would always devour everything she ever wrote. The copy I was holding was a special edition hardback, with sprayed edges and fancy formatting inside. Alley had gotten them done just before the signing.
I handed the copy to my talented, beautiful wife. “Sign it for me?”
We stared at each other, and she reached out to take the book, our hands brushing as she did. My heart pounded in my chest, beating with love for my wife.
Only ever for her.
I snapped out of the moment as the sound of women making gushing noises drifted to my ears. Looking around, I noticed we had gathered an audience. She also had another lineup of people waiting to snag copies of her book—our story.
A lady next to me pointed at the book in Alley’s hand. “I definitely need that one.”
My wife opened the copy I handed her and signed it, then handed it back to me. “Love you,” she whispered.
“Love you too,” I replied as I stepped out of the way. “Do your thing.”
As I walked toward our group of friends who were waiting by the doors so we could go grab some lunch and then bring some back to Alley and Brinley, I flipped open the front of the book and saw where she’d signed it.
To the love of my life… You inspired this story, and you inspire me every day. You’re the best man I know and the only one I have or will ever love. My heart is always with you, even when you are not right by my side. Love you, wife.
Tears gathered in my eyes.
She sure had a way with words.
