Chapter 5

Axelun

My ormete braid lifted to my nose for me to enjoy Timber's scent and remind me of how her pussy clamped around me as I grew hungrier to have more.

Allowing her to leave and be touched by another unGor was supposed to be normal for my species.

Our mate's happiness was above all else, even if it wasn't with me.

I groaned, a growl vibrating out without filter.

"Axelun, you seem displeased," the krelin mused with a grin as I passed him in the hall.

He knew who I was because everyone on the ship would have access to the personnel files of an ambassador on Earth, even if we were from different planets.

Krelins were not given access to Earth under current treaties because of their past involvements with their neighboring planet Estreldez.

They are still considered an invasive species in the galaxy.

"On the contrary." I licked my lips. "I'm satisfied, but it can be difficult to keep instincts in check with humans. Humans require a bit of a delicate balance not to trigger their survival instincts to flee instead of fight."

"You've been cohabiting with them for most of your life, your words will be taken under advisement.

I've found that all species tend to share a consensus on proximity playing a vital role in mating, but you are opting for distance.

Do let me know how that works our for you.

" His words were a pointed insult wrapped in diplomatic pleasantries.

"I'll take your name so I can keep such promises," I challenged.

"Kaustol, Commander of the second fleet of Krelis, soon to be first commander upon the return of Queen Mab and King Trent to their rightful places on planet."

"Yet, you were sent all the way out here to find a human mate?"

"I was given a choice between an estreld mate or a human to assist the goals of strengthening krelin bonds across the galaxy. As you know, there are more females within the trill, estreld and human species than there are in many of the galaxies."

"The trill are a strong species," I pressed his intentional use of not including them in his options of a mate.

"I find their lack of heat to be a hinderance to protecting a mate and future offspring. I much prefer the adaptability and recessive traits of a human."

"You want your offspring to look more like you," I clarified for him.

"No," he corrected with a cluck of his tongue. "Many krelins are infertile until a queen helps us spawn. We often mate purely for companionship with those we call klohvin, a family of our choosing."

"Oh," I intoned with confusion at why he would tell me this. It was almost like he was trying to be friendly.

Kaustol chuckled like my reaction was expected.

"I came this far because of a human's trait to ignore survival instincts when seeking a mate, which the medic Ul-Ro said was called Rosey Glass Syndrome.

It is where humans will ignore prey instincts in favor of stimulating their production of chemicals that promote mating bonds.

Meaning they will follow a path of least resistance towards feeling good, regardless of how much threat is present or how frightened they should be for survival's sake. "

"Would you call that a recessive trait?"

The krelin's throat clicked before he stepped forward.

"We can only hope that it is for those who wish to spawn with humans, but as I am only looking for companionship that trait only benefits me.

I find it endearing to see a creature so vulnerable face danger with no fear, and I like knowing that other creatures would be wise enough to know a krelin would consider it a great honor to kill anyone that drew their mate's blood without permission. "

Was he threatening me?

He grinned and spread out his wings for me to see them as the clawed ends tapped at the ground, capable of skewering an enemy.

"You unGor aren't all that different than krelins.

You show off your trophies and accomplishments to keep a mate, and we do the same when we bring them to our nests.

We often are forced to share much of ourselves with the hive, but that does not mean all of us do not like to have something that is selfishly only ours.

A bond that no one else can have. Do as you wish, Axelun, but I'd be returning to my mate's side if I had one. "

"Are you advising me?"

"It is only right from one warrior to another to wish for your success when it is not in direct conflict with my own."

His wings folded back and disappeared with the illusion of perceivable light that his species was capable of camouflaging.

As he walked away, even his figure blurred into the lights of the ship's hallway as his wings shifted from side to side.

If I didn't know what to look for it would make noticing him difficult by sight alone from behind.

It was a unique trait that made it rare for enemies to sneak up on a krelin, even if they weren't ridiculously good at sensing their surroundings with their horns.

They were like tuning forks, capable of mapping out objects around them even with their eyes closed.

A frightening prospect, but not as disturbing as the krelin's insight into my personal struggles. How was he so perceptive?

I found myself turning around to go back towards Timber's room to stop her from joining the second commissioner of one of the strongest and largest tribes of AsunGor, even if by doing so I would be challenging my mate's choice to choose an unGor with greater power and ability to provide for her.

It would be wise for her to choose a first mate that could give her delegation the support of a strong tribe like the Fausts, and simply choose me as a second mate, but second mates are chosen with the support of the first mate, a brotherhood with the delegate.

I would not be chosen, since I'm not meant to leave Earth and return to AsunGor.

Choosing me isn't an adventure like many of the humans expect from an alien mate.

There are no journey's through space, stasis chambers, new lands, or even a need to learn a new culture as my job is being immersed in human culture and staying on Earth with a boring job of promoting AsunGor within the HET program.

Choosing me means choosing only me, as I have no brothers that I have bonded with to share a delegate with.

I found myself walking in the opposite direction of my mate's room, debating internally about what I had to offer her, and whether interfering would put my position as ambassador at risk, which would render me even more useless in proving my worth.

Staring out into space had such a strange coiling of my ormete.

It was nothing like watching the sky at night on Earth.

Observing the darkness up here was like staring into thick sludge, like it wasn't space at all, but tangible and capable of swallowing you whole.

This observation deck was empty as it wasn't currently viewing the planet below.

Here there was nothing to take your focus away from the depths of being in orbit.

That's when I saw the distortion that caught my eyes.

"Enjoying the view?" I prompted and he chuckled. It seemed my ormete weren't just reacting to the vastness of space, but the observation of a predator cloaking themselves within their wings. Kaustol. His throat did that odd clicking noise that the krelins were known for.

"It was strangely more enjoyable than I anticipated. It isn't often I am alone with my own thoughts. Both unsettling and motivating," he overshared, which was stranger than his enjoyment of solitude because it was unsettling.

Why was he socializing with me?

"I'll let you resume your solitude," I offered and took a step back without turning my back to him.

"You may stay. Your presence does not disrupt my thoughts. If fact, you could be of assistance. That is your job, is it not?"

"Facilitating the Human Exchange Trade is part of my ambassador duties, yes. I won't lure a human to you outside of the mating process outlined in the contracts," I clarified.

"I do not need you to lure in a mate for me," he snapped.

His wings twitched with a flutter that suggested he had restrained them from bursting out in irritation.

With a deep breath he calmed himself before continuing, his grin returning but with a sneer that was unmistakable, "I simply believe it would be in poor taste to musk an entire room as would be less of a problem in a krelin hive when a mate is suspected to be near.

Not all krelins are fertile, making our musk nothing more than a means of disabling threats.

A fertile male, however, in the presence of a fertile female changes our musk into mating pheromones.

Not an issue in the hive when many of us are unaffected by the change in musk, and the queen is in charge of triggering fertility.

Here, it would be a problem to disable an entire room. "

"Are you saying you're not in control of your musk when mating?" I wasn't sure what he was asking me to help him with.

"Your species uses touch to begin mating practices, mine uses scent and blood. I'd like you to take a vial of my musk and place a diluted drop on each of the mating bracelets."

He sounded so certain that I would do such a thing that he was already reaching inside his shoulder armor for a vial in a secret compartment.

"That's not in my job description."

He nodded while toying with the vial as it rolled between his fingers and over his knuckles like it was a coin in a magic show.
