Epilogue
LOGAN
One Year Later
Hannah adjusts the flower crown that keeps sliding sideways on her dark hair, and I can't stop watching her.
"Stop staring at me like that," she says without looking over. "People will think you're obsessed."
"I am obsessed. I married you specifically so I could stare without it being weird or accused of being a creep."
She turns toward me, sand between her toes, wedding dress bunched in her fist to keep it out of the waves. "How's that working out for you?"
"Jury's still out. Ask me in fifty years."
Behind us, the reception sprawls across the beach—Eli charming her grandparents while Boris keeps Maria's kids from running into the ocean fully clothed. Hannah's friends mingle with the island regulars; everyone's sunburned and happy and exactly where they belong.
But my attention keeps sliding back to the woman next to me.
Hannah bumps my shoulder with hers, and I catch her hand before she can pull away.
"You know what's funny?" She leans into me, voice soft enough that it stays between us. "A year ago, I was convinced this was temporary. Vacation Hannah, vacation feelings, vacation everything."
'Vacation sex' springs to my mind, but I bite my tongue, "And now?"
"Now I can't remember what I was so afraid of." She smiles up at me, and I still can't get used to how she looks at me: like I'm the man who hung the moon. "You make it easy. All of it. Even the scary parts."
"Good thing, because you're stuck with me now. Legal documents and everything."
"The absolute worst kind of binding contract."
"With the best kind of benefits package."
She laughs, tugging on my shirt front to kiss me. "I love you, you ridiculous man."
"I love you too. And for the record, I'll still be obsessed with you fifty years from now. I've built a spreadsheet for every single day..."
The ocean rolls in around our feet, and somewhere behind us, Eli's making her grandmother laugh so hard she snorts, and this moment stretches out perfect and complete.
Hannah Hewitt Collins, mine forever, stealing my heart all over again just by smiling.
My life's complete.
The End
