Chapter 37 Asleep in a Haze of Lavender

Asleep in a Haze of Lavender

After Aurora had finished telling the Sun her story, she’d had a very harrowing return to the castle during which she’d decided that sleds that could only move vertically were not for her.

She was now fast asleep in her bed, enjoying an hour of rest before she had to pull in the light, when a flash of vibrant purple danced across the sky.

It was so bright that she woke with a start.

She jumped from her bed and rushed to the balcony, throwing open the doors and training her gaze on the darkness above.

She gripped the railing as she watched, hope swelling in her chest.

She stayed outside for several minutes, feeling more defeated with each second that passed until she finally admitted to herself that she must have dreamt it. She walked back inside and burrowed into her blankets, drifting off once more.

When the next burst of color came, Aurora did not see it behind her closed eyes and heavy quilt, neither of which would have blocked her view had she truly been dreaming. She continued to sleep as the northern lights shone brilliantly beyond her window, casting her dark room in a lavender glow.
