Chapter 112 - Whole

Morning came softly through the broken ceiling.

Golden light filtered down in quiet beams, catching dust in the air and warming the stone beneath them. The ruins were silent in a way that didn't feel empty anymore.

It felt... peaceful.

Athena woke slowly.

Not startled.

Not confused.

Aware.

She didn't open her eyes right away.

She simply breathed.

And for the first time in her life, that breath felt complete.

Her body felt different.

Grounded.

Strong.

Present in a way she had never experienced before.

She could feel the stone beneath her fingertips. The cool air moving through the chamber. The steady rise and fall of Silas's chest beside her.

She could hear birds outside in the valley.

Could smell the grass.

Could feel everything.

Her eyes opened gently.

Silas was still asleep beside her, one arm draped loosely across her waist like he had been afraid to let her go even in rest.

She turned her head slightly and looked at him.

A warmth filled her chest that had nothing to do with the sun.

She didn't feel overwhelmed.

She felt settled.

Like all the pieces of her had finally come home to the same place.

Memories surfaced-not as sharp, painful flashes-but as steady, flowing awareness.

She remembered running through this courtyard as a child.

Remembered the way the banners once hung along the walls.

Remembered sitting beside her mother in the sunlight, watching her heal.

Remembered her father lifting her into his arms and telling her she was brave.

Remembered her brother laughing.

She pressed her hand to the stone beneath her.

And she didn't feel grief.

She felt connection.

"They're still here," she whispered softly.

Silas stirred beside her.

She turned back toward him as his eyes opened.

He didn't speak.

He just looked at her.

And saw it immediately.

The difference.

"You remember," he said quietly.

Athena nodded.

"Yes."

Her voice wasn't shaky.

It wasn't emotional in the way it had been before.

It was steady.

Certain.

She sat up slowly, pulling the blanket with her as she looked around the chamber again.

"I don't feel lost anymore," she said.

Silas pushed himself up on one elbow, watching her carefully.

"How do you feel?"

Athena thought about it.

Then she smiled faintly.

"Whole."

She placed her palm flat against the ground.

And something deep inside her clicked into place.

Not loudly.

Not dramatically.

Just a quiet, undeniable knowing.

Her eyes lifted slowly.

"I know," she whispered.
