Chapter 95

From the top of the stairs overlooking the main entrance of Barker, Momen and Dodds, Thomas watched Tara and Tug leave the building.

He’d been sorely tempted to keep all six tokens, the morning his so-called best mate had left his home on St Helen’s, and his time on earth, for good. And when the seventh and last had arrived, FedExed over by Robin Knight, it had seemed fate was taking a hand.

But Lauren had argued that one would be more than enough, especially given the settlements Logan had already made to them both.

More to the point, she’d been spot on when she said the two of them would find it much easier to stay under the radar if all attention remained on the six people who’d already become overnight media stars.

The whole world was talking about Tug, Tara, Robin and the others; few people had even heard of Thomas and Lauren. She was right. She was always right.

Sometimes Lauren scared him. Her willingness to go along with killing six people, not to mention abducting a kid, had unnerved him.

She’d been the one to investigate how helicopters could most easily be sabotaged.

And then there’d been her ability to wrap Logan entirely around her finger.

Much of what had been done the last few weeks of his life had been her idea, rather than his.

And Logan had had no idea that, throughout, her loyalty had remained with her husband.

At least, he hoped it had.
