Chapter 27
Mind Games it’s making it happen.
The field is nice, packed with fans from the opposing team.
It is good to see school spirit, even if they are cheering for the wrong side.
We take the outfield first. We are down two points with one more inning to go, cutting it close.
We have made eight home runs, three of which were hit by Nathan; he’s on fire tonight, and two were mine.
The inning ends, and the crowd still cheers for their school, even having lost by four points.
Walking to the bus, I catch Levi talking to a player from the opposing team.
He nods and smiles before running over to me.
“Party, at his place. He said we could come. Wanna go chase some Jaguar tail?” He kicks the dirt and shuffles for his baseball bag.
He looks at me, giving his, don't ditch me eyes. “Fuck it— let's goooo.” He jumps around like a kid who got a damn treat.
Quickly, I take out my phone and text Scar.
Me
Hey, we won the game, and your brother is dragging me to a party.
We hop on the bus and drive to the hotel. I get a text back.
Scar
Oh, lord. Good luck with him. Spence, if I can’t have boys, you can't have girls. Remember, I have your baby, and if a girl is hanging on you, I guess you'd better hope you have good insurance.
Me
I wouldn't dream of it, Beauty Queen.
Scar
Good, xoxo
We arrive at the hotel, and the boys unload their luggage. I am exhausted —maybe it's because school and the game whipped my ass, or maybe this secret is weighing me down.
“Uber's here!” Levi jumps up, having been showered and changed into his fuck boy attire.
The party is alright, but I have too much on my mind to really be enjoying myself; I can't say the same for Levi. He is playing beer pong like the last piece of ass depends on it, where I take it easy and talk to some baseball guys about college and next year slots.
Around two a.m. after Levi got his fill of the beautiful bronze athletic trainer, I finally got him out of there. Carrying him into the hotel was not for the weak; he’s a big boy, but I'm happy to see him finally let loose.
The plan was to tell him about Scar on the way home, but he slept off his hangover the entire time. So, now we are arriving home, still full of secrets and regrets for not telling him.
