The little wolf shifter with the cute red hair turned a whiter shade of pale when he realized what he’d just admitted. I let his words sink in while I tried to make sense of them.

Male shifters typically had male animals and vice versa. Having an animal of a different gender was extremely rare.

My wolf pushed forward again, desperate to meet this dude’s wolf. I guessed he must have known all along, the horny bastard.

Back off, I warned him. If I shifted now, the little dude would panic and run. I didn’t want that. Not with him hurt.

His pain tasted like ash on my tongue. Every bit of me wanted to help him, which was confusing as hell. I’d never once given a shit about another shifter when they got hurt, accidentally or otherwise.

Little dude spun on his heels and turned to flee, but I reached out and caught hold of his wrist. It felt surprisingly slim for a male. But then again, he was much slimmer than the average wolf shifter. I guessed it was because of his human genes.

Perhaps that was why I felt protective of him?

In the absence of any other explanation, I decided it had to be.

“Let go of me!” Little dude tried to pull himself free, but I tightened my grip. A waft of fear hit my nose, making me cringe. The last thing I wanted was to scare him, but the stubborn little shit was, well, stubborn.

“Look, I don’t care if your wolf is female. But I do care that you’re in pain.”

“You do?” Little dude stopped struggling. “Why? I’m a pathetic hybrid wolf and you’re a powerful alpha. Surely you see the issue with helping me? It won’t exactly boost your bad-boy brand.”

I couldn’t help but chuckle at the little guy’s snark. Most wolves thought twice before giving me shit. And I was the most laid-back of our trio, the one least likely to tear a wolf’s throat out if he pissed me off.

“You like my bad-boy brand, little dude?” I purred, still maintaining a firm grip on his wrist. Not gonna lie, I found this wolf attractive with his flame-red hair, jade-green eyes, and pouty lips. Plus, his skin was soft; much softer than mine.

While curvy females were usually my jam, I’d hooked up with males a few times. Any hole’s a goal was my usual mindset, except my wolf seemed to think this little guy was more important to us than a casual fuck. But I brushed that aside.

“Not interested,” the little dude snapped, trying once again to free himself from my grasp. But fuck that, he wasn’t going anywhere. Not until I’d made sure his shoulder had been healed. Wandering around campus with a dislocated shoulder was stupid.

I shook myself out of a brief lust-filled fantasy where I stripped the little dude naked.

“I can smell lies, remember?” I retorted with a smirk. “But we can talk about you and me later, over a drink in my room. First, that shoulder injury needs healing.”
