Burned sugar filled my nose, along with the sweetest hint of feminine arousal.
My beast howled and roared in my chest. I’d been celibate since meeting my little hybrid wolf, yet this female had my wolf behaving like a feral beast in rut.
Nothing made sense, but lust pheromones had scrambled my brain, and I was in no state to analyze the situation.
The little female wolf wasn’t in the slightest bit submissive, and I loved it.
The kiss deepened as she ground against me, her tight little body fitting mine so perfectly it was as if the goddess had created her just for me.
We were mere feet away from the doors that led back into the ballroom.
Anyone could walk out here and see us. Not that I gave a fuck.
Although both schools banned sexual activity at co-ed social events, nobody took a damn bit of notice of that rule.
Even knowing there were faculty members here did nothing to prevent lusty shifters from making out in dark corners or sloping off into the gardens to get laid.
Besides, I’d spotted Miss Raven draped over a tiger shifter, and I knew for a fact she’d be fucking him by the end of the evening.
I pressed my angelic little wolf against the rough stone wall.
A small hand slid inside my open shirt, tracing a path over my abs.
Goddess, I could barely think. This female had scrambled my brain, and I couldn’t even blame the fae wine.
The one glass I’d consumed burned off an hour ago, and I hadn’t touched a drop of liquor since.
Forcing my brain to focus, I broke the kiss. Not because I wanted this to end—far from it—but because I needed to know who she was.
She stared up at me, her pretty green eyes glazed, lips puffy and pink. I pushed a lock of red hair away from her flushed cheek and smiled.
“What’s your name, sweetheart?” She shoved me back and slid sideways, putting more space between us.
Stars, that dress… It took all my willpower to focus on her beautiful face, not her tits, but I needed to know her identity. The more I scanned her features, the more familiar she seemed.
She shook her head. “It doesn’t matter. I should go.” Her scent changed from sweet to sour, which killed my erection immediately. I gave her my usual flirtatious smile, the one that never failed to charm the females.
“Let me fetch you a drink, and then we can get to know each other better.”
The way she rolled her eyes at my blatant attempt to seduce her reminded me of the hybrid wolf, my mate—even if he refused to accept it. My honey bunny always saw through my bullshit.
Then it hit me: this female was Riley’s double. Was she his sister? Was that why they had the same scent?
“Hey,” I began, raking my fingers through my hair. “Are you related to Riley Scott, by any chance, the hybrid shifter at Moonfall Academy?”
The female’s eyes widened, and to my surprise, her pink cheeks paled.
“You look like him,” I continued. “Red hair, green eyes, and the same delicious burned sugar scent.”
“Sorry, I don’t know who that is,” she snapped, her lie stinging my nose. Before I could call her out, she jabbed me in the chest hard enough to leave a bruise and then ran back inside.
Instead of chasing her like I wanted to do, I leaned against the wall and waited for my heart to stop pounding in my chest and my inner beast to quit howling.
Why would she lie about knowing Riley?
Riley was my mate. I knew this in my bones. But I felt the same moon-fated pull to this little female too. The same intense attraction and desire to claim her as mine.
Something didn’t add up.
The only explanation I could come up with was that because this female wolf was also a hybrid, she probably assumed I’d want nothing to do with her.
I huffed to myself. Shifters were always so quick to judge me. Sure, I was an alpha wolf, and yes, my father worked for Tyrone Montes, but unlike the Montes pack alpha, I wasn’t a shifter supremacist asshole.
One day soon, Tate would challenge Tyrone and oust the old bastard once and for all. And when that happened, he would lead the pack in a new, more inclusive direction.
Tyrone Montes might discriminate against lesser shifters, but I didn’t, and if my soul-bond mates were hybrids, then I had no problem with that.
I had enough love in my heart to keep two mates happy. More than enough.
