Chapter 20

Dominic closed the suite door without locking it.

Nadine heard the latch settle and felt the first layer of ordinary vigilance leave her body.

The Nocturne Suite was not theatrical in the way she had expected.

No dungeon furniture, no mirrors placed to turn a woman into an image.

A wide bed stood beneath low warm light.

Beyond it, three doors led to a bathroom, a quiet retreat room, and a separate exit corridor.

A green indicator near the entrance showed the room credential was active.

A blank panel confirmed no recording state because there was no recording system to activate.

Dominic did not let her survey it for long.

“Stand on the rug,” he said.

She obeyed.

“Hands at your sides.”

Her body responded before her thoughts completed the instruction. Shoulders lowered. Palms opened.

Dominic walked around her once, not touching.

Nadine felt his attention on the dress he had chosen, on her shaved head, on the strong line of her back and the softness at her waist. Mature desire did not make an apology of appraisal.

He looked as if forty-three years had produced precisely the body he wanted in the room.

“You may speak to answer a question, use a limit, or ask for a health adjustment,” he said. “Otherwise wait until I give permission. Do you consent?”

“Yes.”

“Good. Lift your arms.”

He loosened the tie at her waist slowly. The wrap opened, showing the dark undergarments she had selected within the agreed menu. Cool air moved over her skin. Dominic’s knuckles followed the edge of fabric without touching bare flesh.

Nadine had expected relief from decision. She had not expected the intensity of waiting for touch she knew she could stop.

“Arms down.”

She obeyed.

Dominic stepped behind her. “May I touch your shoulders?”

“Yes.”

His hands settled there, broad and warm. He pressed his thumbs into muscle without turning the act into massage. A placement. A claim on attention, not ownership.

“You carry the room here,” he said.

Nadine almost answered. She stopped herself, and his fingers tightened in acknowledgment.

“You may speak.”

“I carry many rooms there.”

“Not this one.”

The command reached deeper than the touch.

He moved her by guidance at her waist, positioning her before the bed.

Each transition came with a question when the touch category changed.

Face. Neck. The upper slope of her breasts above fabric.

Her back. The full curve of her buttocks through silk.

Permission did not cool the scene. Dominic’s questions became part of the precision she wanted, his voice lower each time she gave him a present yes.

“Kneel on the edge of the mattress,” he said.

Nadine did.

“Hands on your thighs.”

The position opened her posture without forcing exposure. Dominic stood before her, severe face altered by hunger. She wanted to reach for the front of his trousers.

“Tell me what you want,” he said.

“You told me not to speak.”

“I am telling you now.”

“I want to touch you.”

“Where?”

“Everywhere currently available.”

His deadpan survived desire. “Imprecise.”

“Your chest. Your stomach. Your cock.”

The explicit word changed the air. Dominic’s control tightened visibly, not as anger but as effort.

“You may unbutton my shirt,” he said. “Nothing else until I direct you.”

Nadine began at the collar. Her fingers were capable of moving faster. She chose not to. Dominic watched her uncover him, silver and dark hair across his chest, the lean strength beneath. When her hands reached his belt, she stopped.

“Good,” he said.

The praise was specific enough to feel earned and dangerous enough to make her wetter.

He asked permission before touching her breasts over fabric, then beneath it. His thumbs moved across her nipples with controlled pressure. Nadine’s breath broke.

“Hands on your thighs,” he reminded her.

She returned them there.

“Do you want more pressure?”

“Yes.”

He gave it. Her body arched, and Dominic’s mouth found the side of her neck after a separate yes. No teeth. No mark they had not discussed. Heat, suction, the roughness of his breath.

Nadine lost track of the room’s edges.

He moved her higher onto the bed and removed the dress completely. She lay where he placed her, strong legs parted at his direction. Barriers and lubricant sat visible on the bedside table. Dominic touched her through her underwear first, then asked to remove it.

“Yes.”

His fingers slid beneath the fabric.

Pleasure arrived sharp enough to make her grip the sheet.

“Open your hands,” he said.

She did. The instruction left her nowhere to hide the response.

Dominic watched her face as he stroked her, learned the pressure she answered with her hips, and stopped twice to ask whether the intensity remained wanted. Each yes belonged to that moment, not the one before.

“Do not come yet,” he said.

The command was within the menu. Nadine had requested it. Her body still rebelled with a surge that made her curse.

“You may speak,” Dominic said.

“That was poor timing.”

“It was exact timing.”

“Arrogant.”

“Accurate.”

Ravi’s word in Dominic’s mouth made her laugh, and the laugh broke into a moan when his fingers resumed.

Then he gave a new direction.

“Put your hands above your head.”

The position had been approved. No restraint would hold her there. Still, something in the angle—a memory of being told to make herself still while a former lover ignored the change in her face—struck without warning.

Nadine’s chest tightened.

“Stop.”

Dominic removed his hands completely.

He moved back far enough that no part of him touched her. “Stopped.”

The room returned too quickly. Nadine lowered her arms and sat up, pulling the sheet across her body though nudity was not the problem.

Dominic’s desire remained visible. So did his concern. He asked neither what was wrong nor whether she was sure.

“Would you like the lights raised, lowered, or unchanged?”

“Raised.”

He adjusted them.

“Water, space, or touch?”

“Space.”

Dominic sat in the chair near the bed, hands open on his thighs.

Nadine drank. The memory had no grand story. A careless man. A moment she had endured because correcting him felt like too much emotional administration. Her body had kept the note after she discarded the production.

“I didn’t anticipate that,” she said.

“You did not need to.”

“I approved the position.”

“And then you did not.”

“You’re not angry.”

Something moved across his face. “No.”

“Disappointed?”

“The scene changed. I am not entitled to the version that existed before it changed.”

Nadine looked at him sitting half-undressed in a chair, aroused and uncertain and entirely still.

“What are my options?” she asked.

“We can end and choose aftercare. We can rest without deciding. We can revise to something else after a fresh yes. No option earns more approval.”

“What do you want?”

Dominic’s jaw tightened. The question reached the man beneath the authority.

“I want to stay,” he said. “I do not know whether I want to command again tonight.”

Nadine felt the truth of it more intimately than any perfect answer.

“Rest,” she said. “Then ask me again without command.”

They sat for ten minutes. Nadine wrapped herself in the robe. Dominic buttoned his shirt but left the collar open. He drank water. Neither turned the pause into an emergency meeting.

When Nadine’s breathing settled, she crossed the space between them.

“May I touch you?” she asked.

“Where?”

“Your face. Then I want to kiss you.”

“Yes.”

She cupped the severe line of his jaw and kissed him without being directed. Dominic received it for one breath, then returned the pressure, one hand settling at her waist only after she nodded.

The new intimacy was not a lesser replacement. It belonged to a different answer.

They undressed each other without roles.

Nadine asked to touch him and took the weight of his cock in her hand after he consented.

His composure fractured with the first slow stroke.

She wanted that fracture—not because it diminished his authority, but because it proved the authority had never been his only body.

Dominic asked whether she wanted penetration. Nadine checked herself rather than the abandoned plan.

“Yes. Condom. I want to be on top.”

His eyes darkened. “Yes.”

He opened the sealed condom, checked it, and rolled it on. Nadine used lubricant, positioned herself, and lowered slowly with Dominic’s hands resting at her hips only where she placed them. The fullness drew a sound from both of them.

No one was in command for the sake of the scene. They asked. Adjusted. Nadine set a rhythm, then invited him to move beneath her. Dominic’s uncertainty did not disappear; it lived beside desire and made every response more present.

When she came, it was with her forehead against his and his hand open over her sternum. Dominic followed later, after Nadine asked what pressure he wanted and gave it without making receipt a reversal joke.

Afterward, they handled the condom and cleanup according to the agreement, each participating. Nadine chose the Still Room rather than the bed. They sat beneath separate blankets, close enough to touch but not assuming it.

“May I hold your hand?” Dominic asked.

“Yes.”

His fingers threaded through hers.

“I was afraid after you stopped,” he said.

“That I would accuse you?”

“No. That I would want certainty more than I wanted to hear you.”

Nadine turned toward him. “Did you?”

“For half a second, I wanted the scene back. Then I wanted you.”

The honesty had consequence. It made his response ethical rather than magical. He had not been without selfish impulse. He had simply refused to make her carry it.

“I can trust that answer,” she said.

“I need you not to expect me to know what you cannot say.”

“I know.”

“No. You understand the sentence. I need us to practice it.”

Nadine recognized the distinction from every safety protocol ever ignored by people who could recite it.

“Then we modify the program,” she said. “Ambiguity never counts as permission to intensify. If I go quiet outside an agreed silence, you ask.”

“And if I become more focused on performing authority than staying present, I pause.”

“Agreed.”

They recorded the modification with staff after dressing, sharing no intimate detail beyond what the program needed. Separate cars took them home.

At ten the next morning, they held the daylight conversation by phone. Nadine confirmed she felt physically and emotionally safe. Dominic confirmed the same. Neither treated safety as proof that nothing difficult had happened.

“Do you want to see me again?” he asked.

The process did not require him to hide the desire.

“Yes,” Nadine said. “Not because you followed the scene perfectly.”

“I did not.”

“Exactly.”

After the call, she opened her program notes and changed one private line.

Dominic was not a man who always knew.

He was a man who stopped when she did not.
