Chapter 19 #2
Vivienne gripped the linen. Gabriel held her hips and chose the pace.
He loved the taste of her, the mature confidence of her body and the unguarded sounds she allowed.
He changed pressure, listened, returned when her breath sharpened.
No medical reading, no institutional analysis. Desire supplied enough knowledge.
Her thighs tightened around his shoulders.
“Gabriel.”
He continued.
The muscles in her abdomen drew taut. Her hand found his hair. Then her entire body changed—not into danger, but into a tension different from the pleasure building before.
“Amber,” she said.
Gabriel stopped.
Immediately.
He removed his mouth, released her hips, and moved back far enough that no active touch remained. He did not praise her. He did not ask whether she was all right. He did not hide his erection or his interrupted desire as though disappointment itself might accuse her.
He waited.
Vivienne sat up slowly. Her breath was uneven. She reached for the robe at the foot of the bed. Gabriel handed it to her without placing it around her shoulders.
She put it on.
“Water,” she said.
He brought the glass and sat in the chair across the room, visible, not crowding.
Minutes passed. The piano in the living room had ended, leaving the apartment quiet.
“I wanted to slow the transition,” she said at last. “My body was approaching climax faster than I wanted while you were still fully dressed.”
Gabriel nodded. He did not interpret the imbalance he had enjoyed as the reason unless she named it.
“I want to continue,” she said. “Changed form.”
He held her gaze. “Tell me the change.”
“Undress. Then sit on the bed. I want to touch you before you choose what happens next.”
“Is that a new yes to sexual contact?”
“Yes.”
Gabriel stood and removed his clothes without performance. He placed them on the chair, rolled a barrier and lubricant within reach, then sat on the edge of the bed as she had asked.
Vivienne opened the robe and moved between his knees.
Her hands traveled over his chest, broad shoulders, softening abdomen, the scars and marks of fifty-nine years he did not apologize for. She wrapped one hand around his erection and stroked slowly.
Gabriel exhaled through his teeth. “Enough.”
She stopped, a smile at the corner of her mouth.
“Lie back,” he said.
Vivienne obeyed.
This time he removed the robe and came over her naked. Skin met skin. The power imbalance of clothing was gone, but his decisiveness remained.
“I choose your hands above your head,” he said. “Or one hand touching yourself. Which do you want?”
“One hand touching myself.”
He positioned her on her side, facing him, one thigh over his hip. He put the barrier on, added lubrication, and guided himself to her entrance.
“Look at me,” he said.
Vivienne did.
“Still yes?”
“Yes.”
He entered her in one slow, controlled movement. Her mouth opened on a breath. Gabriel stopped fully inside, forehead nearly touching hers.
“Touch yourself.”
Her hand moved between them.
He began to thrust. The side position kept them close, eyes level, his hand at the back of her thigh controlling depth.
Vivienne circled her clitoris while he chose the rhythm.
The combination of her active pleasure and his command was exactly what he wanted: not a surface he acted upon, but a woman choosing within every stroke.
“Faster,” she said.
“No.”
Her eyes flashed.
Gabriel slowed deliberately. “You gave me pace.”
“I may change the perimeter.”
“Yes. Are you changing it or asking?”
The question hung between them, erotic because the answer remained hers.
“Asking.”
“Then not yet.”
He kissed her hard and maintained the slower rhythm until her impatience became pleasure. Then he increased the pace by his own decision, thrusting deeper. Vivienne's hand moved faster. Her nails pressed into his shoulder.
“Now,” he said. “Take what you want.”
She did. Her body tightened around him, climax breaking with a cry against his mouth. Gabriel held the rhythm through it, then followed, pleasure drawing a rough sound from his chest.
Afterward he withdrew, disposed of the barrier, and returned with a warm cloth and water.
“Care, space, or quiet?” he asked.
“Care. Bath.”
Gabriel drew it himself. He tested the water with his hand but did not turn the bathroom into a hotel ritual. Vivienne stepped in first. He joined only after asking. They sat facing each other, knees overlapping without choreography.
“You stopped cleanly,” she said.
“You said Amber.”
“I know.”
He waited.
“Part of me expected you to make the pause beautiful,” she continued. “To praise me for using it. To turn it into proof that the process worked.”
“Would that have helped?”
“No. It would have made me care for your response.”
“Then I am glad I did not.”
She touched his knee under the water. “Thank you.”
“You're welcome.”
No false insistence that he had done nothing. No debt attached to doing what they had agreed.
Later they ate the remaining bread in bed. Gabriel asked whether she wanted him to stay. Vivienne chose yes. He turned out the lamp she indicated and lay beside her without beginning another scene.
In the dark, her hand found his.
Gabriel closed his fingers around it and let the evening remain incomplete in all the ways that made another choice possible.
