Chapter 14 #2
Brittney laughed. "You're going to have her driving him wild by showing up in a ballgown."
"Absolutely not," I told them, folding my arms under my breasts. "I've had enough ballgowns to last a lifetime."
"Fine, something sexy then," Jo decided. "That's better anyway."
Twenty minutes later, Jo's room looked like a tornado had passed through, lifted all the clothes off the ground, and scattered the entire neighborhood's clothing in their place. Not one inch of carpet was showing as she threw items over her shoulder as she weeded them out.
"Perfect!" She turned around, holding up a black garment. "You can even wear your own jeans."
I frowned, but took the top from her. "I'll be right back."
"Where are you going?" they both asked.
"To change."
"We have the same parts," Jo said, with a roll of her eyes, "just change here."
Cheeks heating, I slowly slipped off my sweater to change into the top.
"Umm..." I looked up to find them both staring at me. "I'm not so sure we do have the same parts," Brittney said. "Where have you been hiding those?"
I stared down at my breasts, which was where they were looking. They were encased in turquoise lace, the bra I'd worn to the bar. Folding my arms over my chest, I frowned at them. "What do you mean?"
"What are you, a D cup?" Jo asked. "Your shirts are usually so flowy or baggy, like your sweater, I didn't even realize how big your boobs were."
My face was flaming hot now. My sisters always teased me about my chest. My breasts were the largest, by far, thus why I always wore less revealing outfits. Not to mention, most people back home wouldn't dare to ogle one of the Grand Duke's daughters.
"Oh be quiet," I told them as they grinned at me. Slipping the shirt on, I froze. "No. Absolutely not." It was skin tight. And it left about an inch of my belly showing from where it stopped and my jeans started.
"Yes," they both said in unison. They had a habit of doing that.
"I can't wear this!" There were sleeves, but they barely covered the ball of my shoulder before they stopped, and the neckline plunged down far enough that you could see the scalloped edges of my bra. The bright blue stood out against the black material, highlighting the mounds of my breasts.
"You can and you will," Jo said. A massive grin was covering her face. "It looks amazing on you."
I wasn't sure where to try to cover first, my breasts, or my stomach. "It's so inappropriate." I'd let skin show when I was wearing comfortable clothes for bed, but nowhere else. Especially not out into public.
"And you're leaving the old you behind, remember?" she shot back.
Before I could answer, the front door slammed shut. All our eyes widened as we heard boots stomping down the hallway. Idaho had left us here to start packing while he filled the truck he'd borrowed from the club with petrol.
"It doesn't look like much packing has been done," he called out. "Where are you?"
"In here!" Brittney sang out.
"Shhhh," I hissed at her, but it was too late. I spun and found Idaho in the doorway to the room. Giggles erupted behind me, but I was focused on the man standing there.
His eyes were locked on my chest. They traveled down my body, then back up again. His jaw clenched and his nostrils flared as he took me in. His gaze finally met mine and I could see the feral desire in them. But there was anger, too.
"What the fuck are you wearing?" He growled. It was like he was biting each word out between clenched teeth.
"It's a shirt," I replied, lifting my chin and meeting his glare with one of my own. "Is that a problem?"
His eyes narrowed on me as if he wasn't sure how to respond without throttling me. "You're supposed to be packing."
I shrugged, feeling more confident by the second. "We're almost done."
"He's so pissed off," Brittney whispered from behind me. Jo giggled again.
This wasn't easy for me. I didn't really like conflict. But I also didn't want this man ordering me around for the foreseeable future. "We'll finish right now."
"Right after you change," he demanded, crossing his arms over his chest as he blocked the doorway.
"I don't think I will," I told him, mimicking his stance. My breasts strained against the fabric of my shirt and he couldn't seem to look away from them. "I like it."
His eyes snapped up to mine. "You like making me angry?"
"No," I admitted. "But I don't like being ordered around, and that's what you're doing."
"I'm trying to keep you safe," he growled.
"How is a shirt going to make me unsafe?" I shot back.
His lips pressed into a firm line and his jaw flexed again as he ground his teeth together.
He didn't respond right away, but when he did, it wasn't at all what I'd expected.
"Because we're going grocery shopping after this and every fucking man in Tucson is going to be staring at you if you go out like that.
You're supposed to be keeping a low profile, Duchess. "
"Oh," I breathed, feeling the fight drain out of me. "I didn't think about that."
He nodded, still looking pissed off, but not nearly as much as he had been. His eyes kept straying downward, then it was like he'd catch himself and they'd snap back up to my face. "Go change," he ordered.
"Fine," I huffed. "But I'm wearing it again later."
He looked ready to argue with that statement, but I waved my hand at him. "I can't change my clothes with you here."
"Fine," he growled again, then spun on his heel and walked out of the room. He slammed the door shut behind him.
"That was so much fun," Brittney said, laughing.
"You're crazy if you think that man isn't genuinely attracted to you," Jo told me.
"More like obsessed with you."
I opened my mouth to respond, but Idaho's bellow cut me off.
"Hurry up, Duchess! We don't have all day!"
Jo bit the insides of her lips to keep from laughing.
"I think all I did was make him angry," I whispered as I changed out of the shirt and back into my baggy sweater.
Jo shook her head as I tried to hand her top back to her. "You keep it. And make sure you wear it around him when you're alone."
"Why?"
"Because he won't be able to keep his hands off you," Brittney replied. "Coming," she called out in a chipper voice. She opened the door, and we all walked past a scowling Idaho, to go back to my room and continue packing.
