Progress Report
Carol sat cross-legged on her bed, still smiling from dinner, with Mochi curled up on one side and Shadow—who had bonded to her remarkably quickly—dozing on the other. Both creatures were clean, fed, and content.
Lumi floated near the pillow, her golden glow soft and warm. Missy perched on the headboard, swinging her tiny legs and grinning.
"So," Carol said. "I've been here seven days now. Should we check my stats? See how much progress I've made?"
"Oh yes!" Lumi said excitedly. "You've been doing so well! I'm very proud of you."
"I'm impressed," Missy admitted. "I didn't think you'd last this long, honestly. But you've been surprisingly entertaining."
"Thanks?" Carol said. "I think?"
She mentally pulled up her game interface, and the familiar translucent screen appeared in front of her—visible only to her and her sprites.

Carol felt her cheeks warm. "Can we move on, please?"
"To the death flags?" Lumi suggested. "That's the important part."
Carol took a breath and navigated to the screen she'd been both dreading and hoping for.

"I cleared one," she said slowly. "The Percival obsession is completely gone."
"GONE!" Lumi cheered. "You didn't even hesitate when they mentioned his engagement! You just started talking about decorating!"
"That was beautiful," Missy agreed. "I was waiting for dramatics and you just... didn't care. Very satisfying."
"And the Trapped Marriage flag is yellow now," Carol continued. "That's progress."
"Significant progress," Lumi confirmed. "Yellow means it's improving. You're actually building a relationship with your husband instead of hating each other."
"The Social Pariah one is mixed," Carol noted. "Estate staff are better, but my reputation in the capital is still terrible."
"You haven't been to the capital," Lumi pointed out. "You can't fix that from here. But you're making excellent progress with the people who interact with you daily."
Carol looked at the three flags still blazing red. "The poisoning one is permanent, isn't it?"
"Pretty much," Missy said. "You can't unpoisoned someone. But look—it says your husband is choosing to move forward. That's as good as you're going to get with that one."
"And the future ones..." Carol trailed off. "Mind control attempt, Traitor's Mark, Royal Execution."
"Those haven't happened yet," Lumi said firmly. "You can prevent all of them by simply continuing to be reasonable."
"Just don't try to mind control the hero and heroine," Missy added. "Seems pretty straightforward."
"And don't act like a villain," Carol said. "Don't give anyone reason to think I'm working with The Blight."
"Exactly," Lumi said. "Continue being kind. Building relationships. Making smart choices."
"Adopting apex predators," Missy added.
Carol looked down at Mochi and Shadow, both sleeping peacefully on her bed. "The creatures aren't going to help my reputation when people find out I have two future killing machines as pets."
"But they're adorable NOW," Missy said. "And by the time they're huge and terrifying, people will already know you're not evil. They'll just think you're eccentric."
"Eccentric," Carol repeated. "I can work with eccentric."
She navigated to her skills screen.

"I had a lot to apologize for," Carol said. "Original Caroline was awful to everyone."

"'This delicate duchess who likes desserts has TWO massive killing machines that follow her around,'" Missy said in a mock-announcer voice. "I love it."
Carol closed her interface and looked around her room. Seven days ago, she'd woken up in this world with a 2% survival rate and seven active death flags. Now she had a 15% survival rate, one flag cleared, one improved to yellow, and actual progress with her husband.
"I'm doing okay," Carol said softly. "I'm actually doing okay."
"You're doing wonderfully," Lumi said, her golden glow brightening with pride. "I'm so proud of you, Carol. You took a terrible situation and you're making it better."
"You're exceeding expectations," Missy added. "Which, from me, is high praise. I genuinely thought you'd be dead by now."
"Thanks, Missy. Very encouraging."
"What? You had a TWO PERCENT survival rate! I was being realistic!" Missy grinned. "But you're proving me wrong. Keep it up and you might actually survive this whole thing."
"Fifteen percent isn't exactly safe," Carol pointed out.
"It's seven and a half times better than two percent," Lumi countered. "That's significant improvement!"
"And you've only been here seven days," Missy said. "Imagine what you can do in a month. Six months. A year."
Carol petted Mochi, who purred contentedly. Shadow stirred slightly, then settled back into sleep.
"I can do this," Carol said, more to convince herself than anything. "I can clear these death flags. I can build a real relationship with Caspian. I can make this work."
"Yes, you can," Lumi said firmly.
"Though it would be more fun if you caused a little chaos," Missy added. "Just saying. Everything's been very wholesome lately."
"I almost got killed by death flags," Carol said. "I think I'll skip the chaos."
"Your loss," Missy said. "But fine. Be boring and survive. I suppose that's acceptable."
Carol smiled and settled back into her pillows. Mochi and Shadow adjusted their positions to stay close to her, and she felt a wave of contentment wash over her.
Seven days.
Level 16.
One death flag cleared.
15% survival rate.
A husband who brought her puppies and made dry jokes.
Siblings who were starting to approve.
Staff who no longer flinched when she walked into a room.
Two adorable apex predators who thought she was their mother.
"Yeah," Carol said softly, closing her eyes. "I'm doing okay."
And for the first time since arriving in this world, she actually believed it.
