5. Brittish Abernathy

A good aching between my legs woke me up just as the sun peeked through the windows.

My head was pounding, so I slowly rolled over to search for my phone.

When I couldn’t find it, I took my time to open my eyes, only to immediately start freaking out.

Memories of last night started flooding my mental.

I wasn’t at home. I was at Nyle’s house, who was a stranger that had given me the best sex of my life. Being inebriated didn’t block out the fact I could remember everything he done to my body, and my goodness. I yearned to go on that roller coaster ride again.

After I sat up the best I could, I made sure the sheet was wrapped around me as I searched for my phone.

It was on the other side of the room in a chair, where my dress and shoes were neatly spread out.

I knew for a fact I didn’t do that because Nyle had snatched my dress off the minute we stepped over his threshold.

Speaking of Nyle, where was he?

“Nyle?” I called out and waited for an answer, but silence was the only thing I got in return.

I dragged myself out the bed and went over to my phone.

Another round of panic set in when I saw the time and many text messages from Zaina, Asher, and Pilar.

They could all wait. AJ’s first practice started in less than an hour, and I looked like last night.

Not knowing where I was and how far away from my home that I was, stressed me out, but I got myself together and prepared to leave.

Swiftly, I searched Nyle’s house for his presence.

It was obvious he wasn’t there, and for a moment, it made me feel some type of way.

I’d entered every room in his home except his kitchen.

It probably should’ve been the first place I checked because on his counter, there was a plate wrapped in aluminum foil with a note on the top.

Brittish,

Last night was one of the best nights I’ve had in a long time.

Between meeting you and being inside of you, I’ll be on a high all day.

I hate I had to leave you while you were sleeping, especially since you look pretty as hell, but I have business to tend to.

I’m not sure what you like to eat, but I made some avocado toast, scrambled eggs, and chicken sausage.

There’s water and orange juice in the fridge, and medicine in the cabinet beside it.

You can make yourself at home until I get back or hit me up when you get a chance.

Either way, I’ll be finding my way back to you.

See you soon,

Nyle

Nyle was fine, and his gesture was beyond sweet, but last night was nothing more than a one-night stand for me. I wasn’t looking to get to know anyone. Sex was all I needed, and he delivered it perfectly. If I wanted to give him some again, I’d possibly hit him up, but other than that, I was good.

I snatched the plate up, headed to the front, and silently cursed myself when I realized I didn’t have a way home. I peeked out Nyle’s front window to gauge where I was. He lived closest to the one person I didn’t want to call, but if I wanted to make it to AJ’s practice on time, I had no choice.

“What’s up, Britt?” Diamond answered on the second ring, and I was happy he sounded like he’d been up for a little while.

“Uh, I need a favor.”

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong. I just . . . I need you to come pick me up and take me home so I can make it to AJ’s practice.”

There was some rustling in the background before Diamond’s keys jingled. “Drop me your location.”

“Okay.”

I was grateful he didn’t ask any questions, but I knew they were coming the moment he pulled into Nyle’s driveway seven minutes later, and I came out in my club attire.

Diamond hopped out his truck with his brows kissing in the middle.

He stopped in front of me, carefully looked me over, then opened the passenger door.

Once I was inside, I wasted no time unwrapping my plate to see what Nyle had cooked. It was simple, but it looked good.

“Whose house is this, Brittish?” Diamond interrogated before he could even sit in his seat.

“Oh, hell. You called me my full name.”

“You damn right. You got me picking you up from someone’s house, and I don’t know who it is.

And you look like last night, so I know your ass was being grown and shit.

” Diamond raced his hands down his face and blew a frustrated breath.

I couldn’t help but to giggle at him. He scowled. “Ain’t shit funny.”

“It is because you act like I’m not grown, Diamond. I’m thirty-two with a whole child, so you know I’m not innocent.”

“I never said you were. I just don’t want to think about it. Why you ain’t make sure you had a way home? That’s some reckless behavior, Brittish. You know I’ve always told you to never go somewhere you can’t leave on your own.”

“You’re right. That’s my bad, but I was drunk and wasn’t thinking clearly.”

“Obviously, your second lips were talking for you.”

I almost choked on my breakfast from laughing so hard at Diamond. He was dead serious and mad too, but as always, he showed up for me. Thankfully, my house was only ten minutes away from Nyle’s which gave me enough time to shower and make it to AJ’s practice on time.

When Diamond parked in my driveway, I demanded, “Don’t go telling Dionte about this.”

“Oh, you know I am, so be ready for him to call you later.”

“Y’all be forgetting that I’m older than him.”

“And you know we don’t care about none of that. If you weren’t out here being fast, you wouldn’t have to worry about it.” Diamond left it at that as he got out and came to open my door. He kissed my forehead and said, “Call me later to let me know how AJ’s practice goes. Send me his schedule too.”

“I will. I love you, and thank you, D.”

“You know I always got you. I love you too.”

Diamond watched me until I was safely inside my four-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom home.

I passed by my junky living room filled with clothes I needed to fold and things AJ had left out before he left and went straight to my room.

With each step, I made a mental note to do a deep clean on my house and peeled something off me on my way to my bathroom.

While the shower warmed up, I removed my makeup and brushed my teeth.

It took me a good thirty minutes to finish getting ready, leaving me only a few minutes to spare.

After taking some medicine for my headache, I headed to the ballfield. I was grateful they’d be practicing at the local rec center because I made it there in record time. There was a parent meeting before practice started, so I jogged over to the awning where I saw everyone gathered.

AJ noticed me before I found them. “Ma! Over here.”

My eyes scanned the area until I saw him sitting with Zaina and Asher. I made my way through the crowd, speaking to a few parents I knew from previous seasons, and greeted AJ with a hug.

“Hey, Son. Are you excited?”

He eagerly nodded. “Yes, ma’am. A lot of my old teammates made the team too.”

“I noticed. I think it’s going to be a solid team.” Taking a seat in between AJ and Zaina, I peered over at her and jokingly flitted my eyes upward. “I’ll tell you about it later, Zaina.”

“Oh, you better. I need all the details. You should’ve seen the way my mouth dropped when you texted me.” She giggled and nudged me with her shoulder.

I turned around and looked at the face of the man I once loved with everything in me. He chucked his chin and spoke. “Good morning, Britt.”

“Hey, Asher. Are you off today?”

“Yeah, I took off to be here. I need to get all the information so I can get my off days situated for his games. Missing a game isn’t an option.”

I admired how far Asher had come as a father. The way he showed up for AJ reminded me of how my father was with Diamond and Dionte. He never missed a beat for any of us, but there was something about a man being there for his son that meant everything.

Zaina and I talked while we waited for the coaches. When everyone quieted around us, I looked forward, and all the color drained from my face. My heart beat a mile a minute, and my head whipped over to glare at Zaina who plucked at invisible lint on her clothes while avoiding eye contact with me.

“You knew he was the coach, didn’t you?” I harshly whispered.

“Maybe, maybe not.”

“Zaina!”

She expelled a sigh, but I didn’t miss the smile dancing on her lips. “I’m sorry, Brittish. I knew if I told you that you wouldn’t entertain him. Seeing him last night was the last thing I expected, but it worked out because you walked over here glowing.”

Zaina was giggling, but I didn’t find a thing amusing.

Shit.

I wanted to disappear, especially when Nyle’s eyes met mine, and his lips curved upward.

Why did that man look good even in a plain T-shirt and fitted cap?

The baseball pants he wore left little to the imagination, and I didn’t miss the hushed chatter amongst some of the moms. Lustful stares were being thrown Nyle’s way, but if only they knew he’d been balls deep inside of me hours prior.

Getting focused was hard. I would need to ask Zaina for all the information again later because I remained in shock all throughout the parent meeting and practice.

Nyle and I kept stealing glances at one another.

As hard as I tried not to look at him, it was impossible.

Visions of last night flashed through my mind every time we made eye contact.

His hair was still in the messy bun he’d thrown it in before eating my pussy like his last meal.

When AJ went up to bat, I had to shake off my thoughts and give my baby my undivided attention.

Strike while looking.

Ball.

Strike.

I rubbed my hands against my thighs. No matter how many times I’d seen AJ play or how many practices I’d been to, I was always nervous whenever he was in the box.

He’d told me before that he didn’t like when we talked to him while he was up there, so I whispered encouraging words I prayed God delivered to him.
