6. Nyle Brown #2
“We’ll let you go, Nyle. I’ll stop by later, okay?” Brielle expressed.
“Okay. I love y’all.”
We ended the call, and I shoved my phone in my pocket, trying to wrap my head around everything. Being with Brittish was helping me, but I needed something else to clear my mind as well. She still stood in front of me, so I held my hand out, and she took it without hesitation.
“Can you get away for a little?”
“I can. I don’t have any clients today, so I’m free.”
“Perfect. I want to take you somewhere, but you’ll need to change clothes. Workout attire, something you can move around in good.”
Brittish’s brows dipped. “For?”
“You’ll see. Meet me in forty-five minutes at the location I send?”
“Okay.”
Invading her personal space, I slid my fingers underneath her chin and leaned inches away from her face. “Can I kiss you, Brittish?”
“On my cheek. Friends don’t kiss, Nyle.”
“I’m good with that.”
I gently pecked her cheek, content with that. To my surprise, Brittish moved her face, and our lips connected. I savored the fruity taste of her lip gloss, but it was brief because she backed away and wiped it from my bottom lip.
“See you soon, Pretty Lady.”
“See you.”
“Where are we?” Brittish asked as she approached me, looking good in a baby blue workout set. The shorts clung to her thick thighs while the bra held her breasts up. She had on a cut-off, gray T-shirt to cover herself, but it was hard when she was working with all that beautiful body.
“My facility. I need to blow off some steam, and this is the best way for me to do so.”
“You’re not about to have me in here looking crazy, are you?”
“Only you can do that.” I chuckled. “Come on. I’ll give you a tour of the place.”
I led Brittish inside, and she gasped. She left me and went straight to the glove section. Silently, I trailed behind her as she searched through them. When she seemed stumped on two of them, I spoke up.
“Are you searching for anything in particular for AJ?”
“Yes. You know he plays outfield, and I promised him I would get him a new glove specifically for outfield if he made the team.” She turned toward me and held the gloves up. “Which one?”
“Depends. How long do you want it to last?”
“For as long as it can. Baseball is a pricey sport, so I want to get my money’s worth.”
“If that’s the case, get this one. The quality is better, and it’s meant for the outfield only.
You see how much longer and deeper it is compared to this one?
” I pointed out, and she nodded. “That’s so the ball can get into the glove and stay there.
It’s different for outfield compared to infield, so they designed it differently. ”
Brittish nodded. “I’ll take this one.”
“I got you. I’ll take it to the front so they can get it worked in for you.”
After taking the glove to one of my employees, I gave Brittish a tour and headed to the small, indoor field in the back. I got the machine set up and helped her put on a glove. She looked confused for a second, but when the machine released a ball into the air, I tracked it down and caught it.
“Oh, so you played outfield too, huh?” She caught on and mimicked my stance.
“I did. Center field.”
The next ball went her way, and I was impressed when she correctly moved her hips and caught it.
With a pleased grin, she tossed the ball in the air and explained, “I may have learned a thing or two from my son.”
“I can tell. That was good.”
For a few minutes, we were quiet, going back and forth between catching the balls. My mind was clearing with each thud against my glove. I missed playing the sport, but teaching it was just as rewarding.
“So, do you want to talk about it?” Brittish questioned.
“Pieces of it.”
“I’ll listen to whatever you want to say.”
I held my finger up, jogged over to the machine, and cut it off.
Once I made it back to Brittish, I continuously threw the ball back and forth in my glove while explaining.
“My grandmother raised me and my siblings. Renee has never had a motherly bone in her body. She liked to put on a front for other people, but most people could see right through it. The reasons my relationship with her is fractured the most runs deeply. She used me and my love for baseball for years. I was young and assumed she was trying to do better by us, but she was simply doing what she thought was right to stay ahead in life.”
I wasn’t quite ready to reveal my abuse to Brittish, but it felt good giving her small pieces of me.
She was someone I needed to talk to my therapist about.
I needed guidance on what to do when it came to her because Brittish was already working her way into my heart, and it wasn’t just the sex either.
It was the way she stood there gazing at me with an immense amount of concern and empathy. She said she didn’t want to be anything more than friends, but when she kissed me back earlier, the passion behind it told on her.
Brittish was feeling me, but there was something holding her back from fully indulging. I understood, so being her friend was the next best thing.
“I hate that, Nyle. I truly do.” She bit her bottom lip and harshly blew through her nostrils.
“Being a mother, that pisses me off. I love AJ with every fiber of my being. He comes first in all I do. His love and passions aren’t meant for me to get ahead.
They’re meant for him while I pour into him. I’m sorry you had to go through that.”
Hearing Brittish say that about AJ sent a mixture of emotions through me.
When I was younger, I envied the boys who had that special type of relationship with their mother.
Hell, even their fathers. It was something I was deprived of, but the older I got, the more I realized I needed to be thankful for Nannie and all she’d done for me. She was the mother I needed.
“I’m healed from it, but at times, I’m triggered.
Like now. Renee showed up at my nannie’s house looking for me, and Nannie let her ass have it.
” I chuckled thinking about her feisty self rolling her neck and pointing her finger with each word.
“It just makes me wonder what will happen if I run into her.”
“What do you think will happen?”
“Truthfully, I’ll either have a setback, snap, or both. Either way, I don’t want to find out, so I’m praying she stays wherever she is.”
Brittish stepped in close, invading my personal space with her arms out. I nodded, and she slid her arms around my torso and laid her head on my chest. My arms went around her neck, and I rested my chin on top of her head.
Comfort and peace. Those were the two words to describe the way my soul felt being wrapped in Brittish. It was something I could find myself getting used to, but deep down, I couldn’t until she gave me the green light.
