Chapter 3 The Greeting
His tone was hostile, his eyes dark.
Mother avoided his gaze and took two steps back.
"Chengyuan, I—"
"Shut up. Don't call me that."
Mother quickly pulled me to her side. "What did I tell you when we first arrived? Call him now."
Her voice trembled, yet she forced a steady note.
In this household, I was the only person she could control.
I remembered her warning, blinked nervously, and looked up at Song Chengyuan. "B-Brother."
The word came out barely audible. I lowered my head at once.
I had a feeling I was about to be slapped.
Butler Li seemed surprised that Xu Yunru had directed Song Chengyuan's anger at me. He did not know what to say.
The expected slap never came. My lashes trembled as I lifted my eyes.
Song Chengyuan's face was as dark as expected, but he only stared at me.
When I finally met his gaze, he seemed to snap out of it.
He sneered. "Brother? I don't have a sister."
Then he walked past me and left.
I exhaled in relief.
The atmosphere had already hit freezing point, yet Song Chengyuan had not lashed out at me.
Whatever the reason, I had escaped this time.
