Chapter 17 The Deal

"Enough." Song Chengyuan threw his suit jacket over.

"Put it on quickly. You look like I committed some terrible crime. If you cannot even handle this, how dare you come to the company to beg me? Should I call you bold or timid?"

My fingers unconsciously twisted the edge of the jacket. It felt like I had used all my courage just to stay standing.

I bit my lip.

Song Chengyuan's Adam's apple moved once. His eyes darkened.

"Since you are my lover, you naturally cannot marry into the Liu family. I will let you off today because you were frightened. Next time, remember what your position requires."

My tense shoulders relaxed slightly. I nodded.

Song Chengyuan walked over with steady steps and pulled the jacket up for me.

He curved his lips. He was clearly in a good mood.

He lowered his eyes and tucked my stray hair back into place, like lovers sharing an intimate moment.

"Felt wronged just now, hmm?"

I saw that Song Chengyuan had softened. It seemed he did not want me to fear him like before.

But this change needed time. Today I would give him a small reward and keep him hooked.

"Not at all." I turned my head stubbornly, unwilling to admit my lapse, though my tone carried a trace of girlish petulance.

Song Chengyuan could not hold back a laugh. He held my chin and turned my face back.

His gaze fell calmly, not sharp, yet every evasive word seemed exposed.

"A little..." I admitted reluctantly, still unwilling to yield.

Song Chengyuan raised an eyebrow. His tone lifted slightly with undisguised teasing. "So stubborn."
