Chapter Eleven

PENNY

Tiny explosions took place all over my body. I think I had an orgasm just from hearing him say that.

"Yes. Yes."

He grinned against my mouth. I felt completely shameless. I hadn't ever done anything like this. But right now, I couldn't think past how much I needed the release.

He captured my mouth again, tangling our tongues.

I drenched my underwear when I felt his hand undo the button of my jeans, and then he slid his fingers inside, barely bothering to lower the zipper.

His hand was hot on my skin. I clenched the muscles in my belly, holding my breath in anticipation.

He brushed my clit with the tips of his fingers.

Oh gooooooooood. I groaned. He deepened the kiss even more.

He needed to keep kissing me, or the entire building would hear me.

I couldn't understand how I was so on the edge already. Usually, it took me forever to have the big O. But now I instinctively knew I wouldn't need long, I wouldn't need… Oh my god! He moved his fingers in a small circle, and I drenched myself even more. Then Spencer dipped a finger inside me.

"Fuck, you're so ready and so damn wet," he said, right before claiming my mouth again.

He pressed the heel of his palm against my clit and then slid another finger inside me.

He made a come here motion and pressed his palm on my clit at the same time.

My knees instantly weakened. I grabbed the collar of his shirt.

Then a wave of pleasure washed over me. Every part of my body was alive and somehow wired to my center. I'd never come so fast and so hard.

"That's it, beautiful," he murmured against my mouth. "Fuck, you're so sexy. I want to do this all night long, make you come seven ways to Sunday and start all over again. You're so damn responsive."

I whimpered.

"I bet I could make you come again right now."

Oh yeah.

"How are you feeling?" he asked, moving his hand away.

I smiled lazily. "I'm glad you're holding me up."

Sometime during the past minutes, he'd wrapped an arm around my back.

"I've got you. Don't you worry about that."

I pressed my forehead on his chest, inhaling deeply. I had no idea how long I stayed like this. I only stepped back when we heard a static sound from the speaker.

"Hello?"

"We're here," Spencer said. He’d regained his composure very fast.

"We're going to send someone in a few minutes. Hang in there, okay?"

"Sure," Spencer said.

I covered my mouth with my hand, glancing up.

"Don't worry, there are no security cameras."

"How do you know?" I whispered.

"I asked them once, and they said the building isn’t wired right.”

I lowered my hand, trying to look completely innocent. But I suspected I was still red in the face when the doors opened.

"I need to go to the bathroom really quick," I said, feeling my face go up in flames.

"So do I. Meet you back here in a few minutes?" he asked.

I nodded. Penny, act like the kick-ass woman you are, not like a teenager.

I grinned as I stepped inside the bathroom.

Obviously, I wasn't going to be able to clean at the sink or anything, but I always had some baby wipes with me.

I went into a cubicle and took care of everything. It still felt a bit surreal.

I came out quickly, washing my hands and inspecting myself in the mirror.

My mouth had a red hue all around it. It wasn't tremendously visible, but if someone looked close enough, they might wonder if I’d smeared some lipstick all around my lips.

I reapplied a bit of makeup. My hair was wilder than before.

Had Spencer gripped my hair at some point?

It was possible. All I could remember was his mouth on mine and his fingers inside me. It felt absolutely glorious.

I was immensely nervous. I'd never done anything sexy with a guy before we even went on a date, and I wasn't sure how to behave.

Spencer was waiting for me in front of the restroom.

"I've already spoken to the person in charge of seating. Let's go to our table."

"Sure." I glanced down at my feet, pushing a strand of hair behind my ear.

"Penny," Spencer said.

I looked up, startled. I hadn't seen him move closer.

"Are we okay?"

I wasn't sure how to put everything I felt into words, but I wanted to try.

"It's just, what happened in the elevator is a first for me. I'm not sure how to act now or what to do."

He pinned me with his gaze. "I’m taking you out to dinner. We’re going to have fun. Then—" He brought his mouth to my ear. "—I'll make you come again if you want."

I gasped, then took a step back and burst out laughing.

Spencer looked incredulous for a few seconds before starting to laugh as well. "Okay, this is not the effect I'd thought it’d have on you, but I'll take it. At least you’re at ease."

I nodded. Some of the tension left my body. Spencer put a hand on my upper back.

We had a lovely table near the bar. I glanced around, zeroing in on a huge tree outside the window. I hadn't noticed it on the way in. Then again, I was too focused on a certain sexy guy. They still had twinkle lights up even though the holiday season was long gone. Maybe they kept them year-round.

The wall was covered in red-and-gold silk. It was extravagant, classic, and modern at the same time. I loved it.

"Think they're going to fix the elevator before we leave?" I asked.

"No."

"I’d prefer the stairs, anyway.”

He wiggled his eyebrows. "Or we can take the elevator again. I know how to keep us occupied if we get stuck."

“I have no doubt.”

The memory was still fresh and hot in my mind. My pulse sped up as those delicious moments played back. Lowering my gaze to the table, I grabbed one of the menus, opening directly to the main course.

"What do you want?" Spencer asked, grabbing a menu as well.

"What do you recommend?" I asked him.

"I'll have the spaghetti carbonara."

I wrinkled my nose. "No, I'm not such a big fan of guanciale. I'll just take spaghetti pomodoro." Tomato sauce and basil were right up my alley.

The waiter seemed to realize we were ready to order.

"Do you know what you want to drink?"

"Oh," I exclaimed, realizing I'd totally skipped that part. "Some wine, perhaps white."

"We'll take your best bottle," Spencer said.

My eyes popped. He didn't even want to look at prices? I'd never bought a whole bottle in a restaurant.

"Right away. And food? Do you need more time to decide?"

"No, we're good," Spencer said.

We both gave our order.

I wanted to call him out on the bottle but was a bit ashamed to do it in front of the waiter. But as soon as we were alone, I leaned over the table and said, "Spencer, I'm pretty sure the wines are expensive."

"It’s my pleasure to treat you to something delicious. I want you to relax. And you like white wine."

My brain stopped registering what he said after "I want to treat you to something delicious.

" Had I imagined that he said that? I had to because it wasn't something that men usually said.

But maybe I shouldn't generalize, considering my experience had been limited to one guy who couldn't care less about me.

And yet, I couldn't help but compare. Wally would have never splurged on anything just to indulge me.

Hell, he didn't even want to spoil me with free stuff like cooking or cuddling me.

Focus on the now, Penny. That part of your life is over, and you will never ever let anyone treat you that way again.

"You're lost in thought," Spencer said.

"Yeah, sorry. It's hard for me to hear things like that. Well, maybe not hard but… unexpected."

"Which part?" Spencer asked, frowning.

"That you want to do something nice for me."

The line of his jaw hardened. "Your ex sounds like a douche bag."

"He was. The only question is why I waited so long until separating. But being with him was so familiar, you know?”

“I don’t.”

“Sorry. Shouldn’t have brought it up. Between the two of us, you've got a suckier ex."

Spencer straightened on the chair. "It's not a competition."

"Are you in contact with her at all?"

He nodded. "She visits Ben once or twice a week for an hour, and that’s about it.”

“Wow. If that little guy were mine, I’d be all over him.”

Spencer chuckled. “He’s the best damn thing that could’ve happened to me. Am I completely sleep-deprived and feel like I have no idea what I'm doing half the time? Yes. But I’ve never been this happy."

I swear my heart was trying to jump out of my chest. I couldn't believe he’d said something so sweet. "You're a good dad, Spencer."

"I'm trying to be."

The waiter brought the bottle of wine, uncorking it quickly and pouring a bit in two glasses. Both Spencer and I reached for ours. He twirled his wine gently, and I copied the movement. Just by sniffing it, I could tell it was finer than any wine I've ever had—including the one at my wedding.

"I love it," I exclaimed. Spencer nodded, and the waiter poured generously. Then Spencer held his glass up. “Let's toast.”

"To what?" I said, feeling giddy, shimmying in my seat as I held up the glass, and we clinked them.

“Though our date started unusually, with my grandmother pushing us out the door, and continued even more unconventionally—”

"Spencer!" I exclaimed.

"I wouldn’t change any of it,” he went on. “Damn, you look delicious when you're red in the cheeks."

He was being gallant, because I knew for a fact I turned into a tomato when I blushed. My forehead and my chin were red as beets as well.

The waiter interrupted us again, putting down sliced bread and a little dish with olives. I immediately took two olives with my fork. I wasn't prepared for the explosion of flavors in my mouth. I tasted honey and lemon and a very sweet element. They’d stuffed dried figs in the olives.

"This is amazing."

Spencer cleared his throat. I stopped chewing and glanced at him. He was eying me hungrily.

"What?" I murmured.

"The sounds you made reminded me of our elevator trip."

Oh, hell! I just had to accept that I was going to blush a lot tonight.

We received our spaghetti a few minutes later.

"That was fast,” I said.
