Chapter Eleven #2
His fist landed with brutal precision, crunching across Derek’s jaw.
The wolf reeled, unprepared for the sudden change.
Logan didn’t let him breathe. A knee came next, slamming into Derek’s ribs, drawing a ragged wheeze from his lungs.
Logan pivoted, driving an elbow into his gut, then a sharp blow to the solar plexus that folded Derek in half.
Derek lashed out wildly, but Logan dodged the strike easily and came in close again. One-two, ribcage and cheekbone. His movements were crisp and controlled. There was no wasted motion, and no hesitation. Every strike was calculated.
Derek roared, furious now, his wounded pride bleeding into desperation.
He charged. Logan let him come. Then sidestepped.
Derek stumbled forward into nothing, rage dragging him down.
Logan struck again, a final punishing hook that cracked across Derek’s temple.
The alpha staggered, blood pouring from his nose, jaw slack with disbelief.
“You don’t get to win anymore,” Logan said, voice quiet, and resolute.
He wasn’t just stronger now. He was better. The better fighter. The better alpha. And the better man.
Derek stumbled back a step, spitting blood onto the scuffed wood floor, his breaths ragged and feral. His eyes, wild and unhinged, locked onto Logan with one last desperate gleam of fury. And then he lunged.
He came fast, claws outstretched, a snarl ripping from his throat like a beast cornered.
Logan didn’t flinch. He caught Derek midair by the throat. Then he reached out with his other hand, and placed it on the other side of Derek's neck, and he twisted hard.
Snap.
The sound was sickening. Final.
Derek’s body jerked once, then went limp in Logan’s hands.
Logan let the corpse drop.
The former alpha hit the ground with a dull, graceless thud, his face twisted, his neck grotesquely turned. He would not rise again.
For a moment, no one moved.
The air hung thick with surprise from Derek’s enforcers.
Logan stood over the man’s body, his chest heaving from the exertion, pain, and something far heavier. Release. His knuckles dripped crimson. A fresh gash ran across his temple, but he paid it no mind.
The weight, the one he’d carried for nearly two decades, began to lift, inch by inch, as if exhaled from his very soul.
His father was avenged.
His mother, honored.
His mate safe.
For a long moment, no one breathed. Then, as if a silent cue passed through the room, the enforcers began to move.
One dropped to his knees, head bowed. Another followed, then two more.
The room shifted, fear giving way to instinct, to the ancient laws that governed them all.
The alpha had fallen. The challenger had risen. Nature demanded acknowledgment.
A few wolves, those too steeped in Derek’s darkness to surrender, turned and bolted for the side doors, vanishing out into the night. Logan let them go. He’d find them later.
For now, he stood in the center of the blood-soaked hall, fists clenched, chest heaving, his mate somewhere behind him and his past at his feet.
Max stepped through the doorway first, Carter on his heels. Neither said a word. They didn’t need to. Their eyes swept the room, measuring threats, noting posture, reading the pack like seasoned operatives. But there were no threats left. Only submission. Recognition. Respect.
Max gave a small nod, his mouth tight with emotion. Carter exhaled, shoulders easing slightly as the tension bled from his frame.
One by one, wolves lowered their heads.
Logan didn’t speak. He hadn’t come here to rule. He’d come to stop the cycle of violence. To end what had been festering since the night his parents had been murdered.
Logan turned. The pack, the bodies, the blood…
none of it mattered in that moment. Only she did.
Willow. She was slumped in the corner against a toppled chair, arms braced behind her for support, her chest rising in shallow breaths.
Her cheek was bruised a deep violet, her lip split and crusted with blood, but her eyes…
God, her eyes.
They found him the second he moved, wide and shining, not with fear, but with fierce, burning relief. She was hurt. But she was alive. He crossed the space between them in three long strides, then dropped to his knees beside her like the weight in his chest had finally pulled him to the floor.
“Willow,” he breathed, his voice wrecked, trembling despite himself.
She tried to sit up straighter, but winced.
“Don’t—don’t move,” he said quickly, already curling an arm around her back. His other hand hovered at her jaw, gentle, reverent, not quite touching. “God, look what he did to you…”
Her mouth lifted in the barest, battered smile. “You came.”
“Of course I came.” His throat clenched. “Did you really think I’d leave you in his hands?”
She reached for him then, her fingers curling into the front of his shirt, and Logan pulled her into his arms, cradling her like she was something holy.
“It’s over,” he whispered into her hair. “It’s finally over. He’s gone.”
Her breath hitched, a stuttering sound that wasn’t quite a sob. She clung to him tighter. And for that moment, nothing else existed, but the two of them.
Not the pack still watching in silence. Not the mission, the team, the weight of a newly claimed title. There was only her. Only him. Only the way their hearts beat in time, and the quiet, unshakable truth that no matter what came next, they had survived. Together.
Logan exhaled slowly, the breath leaving him in a slow, steady sigh.
He knew what came next, rebuilding, healing, and leading.
He’d never wanted it before, had never asked to be anyone’s alpha.
But now, now he understood. He had a mate to protect.
A pack to restore. A legacy to honor. And a home to fight for.
With Willow safe in his arms and the monster who had taken everything from him lying dead at his feet, Logan knew the truth in his bones. He wasn’t running anymore.
He was finally home.
