Chapter Seventy-Six

Beau Drewitt

Caged Animal

Iawake to my knees slamming down onto a hard surface below me.

“On your knees, prick.” A strong voice commands above me, then slides whatever is on my head off.

My eyes begin to adjust to the odd lighting in the room.

The room is damp and smells of rot. I try to choke back a gag as I glance around. My mind is all over the place.

My kidnapper steps away, sliding a cage door in front of me. My senses rush back to me all at once. I’m locked into a jail cell. Where the fuck am I? “Hey. Come back. Who are you? Where am I?” I yell through gritted teeth, trying to pull my hands from the cuffs behind my back.

“Be quiet. I don’t have to answer shit.” The man who placed me in here yells back from the hall as he leaves. I find my balance and get to my feet from my knees. I walk to the bars of the enclosure and peer through them. Water drips from the ceiling.

“Help. Somebody help me. I need to get out of here.” No one answers. I’m alone. “Is anyone down here? Hello?” I yell again to no avail. I sit back down on the ground and try to scrape my cuffs against it.

Elowen is alone. Elowen is alone and I’ve been taken from the house. What if Imani or Kai come back and she can’t control her urges? What if she rips through the blood supply in her fridge and decides she hasn’t had enough so she starts taking out the neighborhood?

I have to get out of here. Whoever has taken me has made a mistake. I’ve done nothing wrong. I need to get back to Elowen. She needs me.
