Chapter 27
Chapter Twenty-Seven
The second I lay eyes on Connor, I know something is wrong. I press stop on the treadmill and walk over to him. Without a word, Connor takes hold of my hand, then turns and walks out of the gym.
I look over my shoulder at Levi, who watches the interaction with a shake of his head.
I smile and turn back, following Connor to wherever we’re going.
Because that’s what I seem to do lately.
Follow Connor everywhere. I’m not complaining.
I just never thought I’d be the girl following a boy around the world.
Love makes us do the unthinkable, and there is nothing I wouldn’t do for this man. It’s a scary thought. To have absolutely no limits to the lengths you’re willing to go to for one person. To put your heart and soul in the hands of someone else and trust that they’re not going to crush you.
I would not survive a heartbreak by Connor a second time, which is why I’m not ever going to let him break me. I’m sure if he tried to leave me again, I’d figure out some way to change his mind.
Connor leads us into his bedroom. I wait until the door is shut, and we’re locked in our own little cocoon where no one else can hear us. “What’s wrong?” I ask him.
“I’m tired and need to sleep, and I’m not sleeping without you.” He walks over to the bed.
“Connor, I’m covered in sweat,” I tell him, pulling my hand out of his.
“Wouldn’t be the first time you’ve been all sweaty in bed, Aurora.” He smirks. But it’s dull, not full of mischief and dirty promises like it usually is.
“You hop into bed. I’m going to have a quick shower and then I’ll join you.” I wait for Connor to lie down, then rush into the bathroom.
I think I’ve just won the record for the world’s quickest shower. Drying off, I wrap the towel around my body and walk back into the bedroom.
Connor is sitting against the headboard. His focus shifts from his phone to me. “That was fast.”
“Well, when a guy like you says he wants me in bed, I’m not going to dawdle.” I laugh. Dropping the towel, I walk around the bed and climb under the covers.
“A guy like me, huh? There are plenty of guys out in the world like me, Aurora. Are you going to jump into bed with whichever one of them asks?” Connor sets his phone on the bedside table next to him and then rolls over to face me.
“Pfft, there is not a single person on this planet like you, Connor O’Malley. You are one of a kind. My kind.” I lean in and press my lips to his before shifting over and resting my head on his chest.
Connor’s arm wraps around my back while his fingers aimlessly trail along my bare hip. “Dr. Morgan called,” he says casually, as if I haven’t been waiting for this news.
“What did she say?” I keep my head down, my breathing even. As eager as I am to find out what’s wrong with him, if he wants to act like it’s not a big deal, then I’m going to do the same. I also don’t want him to worry about what my reaction will be when he has to tell me things.
“The tests came back. I have haemochromatosis. She says I need to have a pint of blood drawn every other week for a few months and my levels need to be monitored.” His fingers continue to draw circles over my hip.
“Okay, that’s good. We can do that. I’ve found some local doctors we can take the results to and get you set up for those blood draws,” I tell him.
“We’re going to New York next week. For a little while,” Connor says.
This time my head snaps up. “We’re going home?”
“I have to be there for the deal with the Albanians.”
“Okay. But we’re going to be there a little while?” I ask. “Because rumor has it, my dipshit brother went and fell for a cop—no, not just a cop, a fed, and he’s bringing her to Sunday lunch. We could… drop in and see my family.”
“Enzo is with a fed. How is that going to work?” Connor says.
“She quit apparently. I swear all the good stuff happens when I’m not there.
Orlando has a kid—oh, did you hear Dante bought an apartment for him and Josie?
My Zio Theo is losing his mind over that one.
And… you know what? It doesn’t matter. Whatever you need me to do is what is happening,” I tell Connor breathlessly.
He said he has to go to New York for business, not a visit with his future in-laws.
“Aurora, I want you to see your family while we’re there,” he says.
I don’t miss the way he words that. He wants me to see them. That doesn’t mean he wants to be dragged along with me.
“I love my family, Connor. But the love I have for you doesn’t compare to anything else in this universe. I want to be the kind of wife you can be proud of, the kind of wife you can rely on.”
“You are. You just have to be yourself. I don’t need you to be anything but you, princess.” Connor kisses the middle of my forehead, and I rest my head back on his chest.
“I can get a doctor to draw your blood in New York,” I tell him. “Where are we staying?”
“At the O’Malley estate. It’s the only place secure enough.”
“Okay. Oh, and Connor?”
“Yeah?”
“Go to sleep.”
Connor’s arms tighten around me. “Wake me if you get up.”
I nod my head, even though I have absolutely no intention of leaving this spot. I will lie here for as long as he needs to sleep.
I must have drifted off, because I’m woken by something wet between my legs. Something that feels amazing. Blinking my eyes open, I look down and see a bulge under the blanket. I lift it and am greeted by the sight of Connor’s head nestled right between my thighs.
“Hey, princess.” He smiles up at me and then proceeds to drag his tongue through my wet folds.
“H-hey,” I mumble out. My head falls back onto the pillow. “Continue.”
Connor’s chuckle sends vibrations through my core. His tongue circles around my hardened clit, and I moan. “Oh shit! Oh god.”
My legs shake, and my hands move under the sheets, landing on the top of his head. My fingers tangle through his hair.
Connor grips my thighs, holding them open as his tongue delves in. “Fucking delicious,” he growls before continuing his assault on my most sensitive parts.
I should spin this around. Do what he did to me the other day and make him give me his cock while he eats me out.
But all coherent thoughts fly out the window when I feel two of his fingers rubbing along my inner walls, getting that little hidden spot deep inside that sends pleasure bombs detonating all over my body.
“Don’t stop, right there. Don’t stop.” My hips buck, trying to get closer, needing that little bit more friction.
Connor’s hands tighten on my thighs. I’m sure I’ll be sporting fingerprints all over my legs in a few hours. I’ll wear those bruises with pride.
“I wouldn’t stop if you paid me to do it, princess.” Connor’s fingers continue fucking me while his mouth closes over my clit. Sucking, licking, nibbling.
My body shakes as I come apart. I can hear screams before the realization sets in that those screams are mine.
Connor slides up my body, leaving wet, sloppy kisses along his way. “My cock needs to be buried inside your cunt. I’ve never needed you more than I do right now,” he says.
I get the feeling that he’s not just talking about sex. I don’t question his motives, though.
“I’m all yours, Connor. You have me,” I tell him as I feel his cock slide inside me.
My eyes roll back. I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to that feeling, the one where he first fills me, making me more complete than I’ve ever been before him. I don’t know if it’s always going to be like this, but I sure hope it will be.
