Chapter 7

Chapter Seven

Sophie

I glanced at Jamie out of the corner of my eye as we walked side-by-side toward my Airbnb. Conversation had flowed effortlessly between us on the way to Neville and all through dinner, but since leaving the restaurant, we’ve barely said two words to each other.

Jamie seems to be back to his grumpy self, but I know he felt the electricity between us tonight. I caught him staring at me more than once and the look on his face wasn’t disinterested like it is now. He seemed very interested and I have no idea what happened to change the mood.

Before I could obsess about it too much, we rounded the corner and I saw the brownstone that’s serving as my home this week. I let out a sigh of relief, but also felt a twinge of disappointment.

“Well, here we are.”

“Yeah,” Jamie replied, his voice strained.

“Thanks for walking me home.”

“No problem.”

Jamie shifted his weight from one foot to the other and ran a hand through his hair. He looked at the ground, toward the building…pretty much anywhere but at me. Even in this awkward moment, I feel the zing. And the crackling air surrounding us makes me wonder if things would be different with Jamie or if he’d be like the other guys who’d seemed promising, but turned out to be duds. Unfortunately, there’s only one way to find out.

I stared at the door of the brownstone, weighing the pros and cons of inviting him inside.

Jamie cleared his throat, as if to remind me he’s still there. Glancing at him out of the corner of my eye, I saw him watching me. It almost seemed as though he knew what I was thinking. I felt my cheeks flush and quickly looked away.

Once again, the silence stretched between us, but this time the air was thick with expectation. I wondered if he was going to make a move. And if he didn’t, should I?

Jamie cleared his throat.

“Thanks for having dinner with me. It was fun.”

I nodded.

“It was fun. Thank you.”

“Well…” He looked down the block, at the house, then back at me. “Good night.”

I searched his gaze and knew this was it. I’ll never see Jamie Dunne again. That fact upset me more than it should considering we just met four days ago. But deep inside I know I’ll regret it if I don’t at least try to explore whatever this is between us. Even if it’s only for one night.

Jamie turned to walk away, and I watched him take three steps before saying his name. He slowly turned to face me.

“Would you like to come up for a drink?”

“I…”

My heart pounded as I waited for his answer. The heated look in his eyes gave me hope that he’d say yes, but his clenched jaw made me less confident.

He rubbed a hand down his face, breaking the connection between us. Looking at a spot somewhere behind me, he shook his head then met my gaze again and walked forward until we stood toe to toe.

“I feel this thing between us too,” Jamie finally said. “But I can’t offer you anything.”

“I don’t want anything more than one amazing night.”

Jamie looked into my eyes for a long moment, then the corner of his mouth kicked up and he nodded.

“I think I can manage that.”

I let out a breath I hadn’t realized I’d been holding and smiled. Without saying another word, I turned and walked up the steps then led us both inside. Jamie closed the door behind us and stood in the foyer watching as I set my purse on the table. He stepped forward and helped me remove my coat.

“Thank you,” I said as I draped it over the chair.

He shrugged out of his jacket and placed it over mine then we just stood there, looking at each other. Now that I have him here, I’m not sure what to do. I offered him a drink, so I guess I should start with that.

“I don’t have any beer, but I have white or red wine. There’s water and iced tea, too.”

It took him several heartbeats to answer.

“No, I don’t want anything to drink.”

My gaze locked on his and I couldn’t look away. His eyes are normally dark brown, but now they look lighter, brighter. More intense, yet somehow softer.

He stepped closer until I had to tilt my head back to keep eye contact.

“Are you sure about this?” I nodded. “Say it.”

“I’m sure.”

With my words still hanging in the air, Jamie wrapped his hand around my waist and pulled me closer. My breath hitched in my throat then let out as a low groan when his other hand fisted into my hair and tugged. The instant he lowered his head and placed his mouth over mine, I knew I made the right decision inviting him in.

He kisses like he knows exactly what I need, what I want, what will set me on fire. And if he’s this good at kissing…

I shivered at the thought.

Jamie

From the moment my mouth met Sophie’s, I devoured her, pouring everything into the kiss. Hoping to make her understand how I feel. Hoping I could understand. I’ve never felt this attracted, this connected, to a woman so fast before.

Sophie shifted her hands up from my chest and wrapped them around my neck. I tightened my grip on her hair and tugged, pulling her head back slightly, opening her mouth wider so I could explore and taste. I added a soft suction and she moaned before melting against me.

Sophie gave as good as she got, meeting my tongue stroke for stroke. She tunneled her fingers into my hair and curled them against my scalp, holding me in place as our mouths opened and closed, taking and giving.

Even through our clothes, her hardened nipples pressed against my chest, just begging for attention. I released her hair and slipped my hands beneath the hem of her shirt. Sliding my fingers along her warm soft flesh, I rested them against the band of her bra and cupped her breasts before brushing my thumbs across their thrusting tips.

Desperate to feel her, skin on skin, I pushed her bra up and groaned when I made contact with warm, soft flesh. Her nipples scratched against my palms and I moved my hands in tiny circles before pinching and rolling each between my thumb and forefinger. They grew harder and longer. And they weren’t the only things getting hard and long. My dick throbbed and ached as it pressed against the zipper of my jeans.

Moving one hand down to cup her ass, I held her in place and pushed forward in an attempt to ease the ache. That didn’t work. In fact, it made things worse, especially when Sophie pressed her hips against me. Locking my knees, I tested my control, feasting on her mouth, plucking at her impossibly tight nipples, as I met her hips thrust for thrust.

I don’t remember the last time I’ve dry humped a woman like this, but I can guarantee it didn’t feel this good. It’s almost too good. I’m going to have to put a stop to it soon so I don’t embarrass myself.

Soon, but not yet. She’s too delicious to let go of.

Sophie stepped back as I moved forward, until her ass rested against the edge of the table. I moved between her thighs and she wrapped her leg around my calf, opening enough for me to press directly into her heat. She shifted her hands to my shoulders and held on as her hips pulsed. I mentally recited the alphabet backwards in an attempt to hold back the release begging to be let loose. I made it through once and was about to start again when I decided it was time to slow things down. If we keep going at this pace, I’m either going to come in my pants or fuck her against this table and I don’t want to do either. Particularly the first thing.

I broke the kiss and drew in a deep breath. Sophie’s sweet scent surrounded me, muddling my brain even more. She looked up at me with glazed hazel eyes.

“Can we take this somewhere more comfortable?”

I amazed myself with that coherent sentence.

It took her a minute to process the question, but then she nodded and took my hand. My heart pounded as I followed her to the bedroom, more from anticipation than nervousness. Yes, it’s been way too long since I’ve done this, but I’m not being cocky when I say I’m actually pretty good at it. And there’s nothing I love more than taking control of a woman’s body and giving her pleasure.

The lamp on the nightstand offered a soft glow and I saw the apprehension in her eyes as she turned to face me.

“You okay?”

She nodded and offered a small smile before averting her eyes and nibbling at her bottom lip.

“Are you sure?”

Her gaze shifted to meet mine again and she offered a small smile.

“Yeah, I just…”

“Sophie, you’re killing me here.”

She chuckled then sighed and shook her head.

“It’s silly.”

“If something is bothering you, it’s not silly.”

I held my breath and waited for her to answer. She met my gaze again and thankfully spoke before I passed out.

“What we were doing out there was amazing. I just hope…”

Again she trailed off. I raised my brow, urging her to continue. She looked up at the ceiling and shook her head. Even in the dim light, I could see her blush.

“This is so embarrassing.”

I waited for her to tell me whatever’s bothering her. We can’t move forward here until I know she really wants to.

“I just hope all this chemistry translates here.”

She gestured toward the bed.

“You’ve had issues in the past?”

Her cheeks darkened even more as she nodded.

Stepping forward, I kissed her forehead, then pulled back just enough to look into her eyes.

“I don’t think that’s going to be an issue tonight.”

“No?” I shook my head. “Why not?”

“Because I’ve been dying to do this since the first moment we met. And now that we’re here, I plan on making you come so hard, you’ll be lucky to remember your name.”

She blinked and swallowed.

“Oh.”

I kissed one corner of her mouth, then the other before nibbling her bottom lip. After giving it a tug, I slowly released it.

“This first time, all you need to do is lie back and enjoy.”

“First time?”

“After the extended foreplay we’ve had going on since Sunday, once is definitely not going to be enough,” I said. “Is that okay with you?”

The corners of her mouth curled up into a sexy smile.

“More than okay.”
