Chapter Two
Rhylen
Isit in the treetops, shroud in darkness, waiting. The whiny captain has returned to his village. He meets with his fair maiden under the moon, amongst the trees, where no one can see them.
She’s far too below his station, but the captain has always preferred the pretty things. Especially those far less powerful than him.
They think they’re alone while he regales her with false stories of his adventures, hiding his cruelty under a charming smile.
I’m only here to meet with the rebel leader of the Cahir village.
To slip in, learn anything I can of the captain’s next moves, and then disappear before word can get around.
The mysterious maiden with her copper brown hair and her fair skin stops me in my tracks. My heart begs to get to know her, as if there’s an invisible string that constantly pulls me towards her. She’s hypnotizing; a secret siren call in the middle of the grove.
I stay hidden under the security of the trees, thankful that no one has spoken to the trees in over a century. Frustration burns through me as curiosity and the need to see her battle with duty to my crew.
I watch as the captain embraces the woman with a sick feeling churning in my stomach. Deciding I’ve had enough, I turn around. Purposely leaving a little louder than usual.
