Chapter 41 BEANS

BEANS

When I reached the apartments to meet up with the guys, I checked my phone to see if Scooter had gotten what I sent him.

Since leaving campus, I have been trying to reach him, but my calls and texts have gone unanswered.

I was starting to think that with the money I sent him, he gave me a big fuck you and went on his way.

I walked through the courtyard, coming up on Dio and Samara’s crib, when I saw Pierre and his girl.

The idea that Piggy needed some kind of help caught my attention.

I hadn’t told her I knew she had moved off campus.

She tried to keep whatever she was going through away from me.

When the door across the hall from Dio’s opened, I saw her embrace him in a hug.

Was she crying? A part of me felt bad because during the podcast, I felt like something wasn’t right.

Instead of addressing it, I used the moment to be selfish.

I continued to watch as moments later, that corny nigga was getting tossed out of her crib by Pierre.

My instinct was to off his ass where he stood, but I decided against it.

He was going to get his, and when he did, it would be a night to remember.

I strolled closer to Dio’s door when I heard his voice calling my name.

“The nigga that fucks with the opps,” Dio said as he walked up, swinging his backpack over his shoulder.

“And the nigga who never learns.”

Dio shrugged. “If you say so.”

I knew this was a good time to put my plan in motion, especially before we got in front of the other guys. “Ayo Dio, I was thinking about doing a—”

“No.”

I ran my hand over my face. “You don’t even know the ask, nigga.”

“I don’t want to. I got a feeling it has to do with that bitch nigga Scooter.

Unless you want another ass beating session, then the answer is no,” he said as he opened the door to his place.

“Mars? What the fuck y’all doing here? Damn, Zeus, get your bigfoot ass leg off my table,” he said as we entered.

Chevy ran his hand over his head. “Zu, we got to figure some shit out because ain’t no way this nigga is laid up with my daughter.”

Dio pointed at Chevy. “Chev, first off, Mars is my girl. What she and I decide to do is our business. The sooner you realize it, the sooner you will have less to say. Zeus can’t control that.”

Chevy pointed at Dio. “Dio, I know you found the stairway to heaven, but didn’t choose the option. If you keep fucking with me, I’m going to give you an express pass. The sooner you realize it, the sooner you know you're saving your own life.”

I shook my head as they went back and forth.

If these niggas weren’t going to talk business, then I could leave and tend to more important things like finding out what was going on across the hall.

I crossed my arms over my chest as I interrupted their Dr. Phil session.

“I know you want to dig into his ass about your daughter, but can we do that later and talk about what you have been so eager to get to, respectfully?”

“Something to drink!” Samara shouted. “Does anybody want something to drink?” she said nervously.

Chevy ignored her as he grilled me. “Cornelius Morwood Jr., also known as Papi. Cavali Morwood, known as Poodie. Caleb Morwood, known as Geo. Cameron Morwood, known as Six,” he paused as something flickered in his eye.

“They are the sons of Mister, whoever that nigga is,” he said, now looking at all of us. “They are from Lexington Heights.”

I couldn’t figure out how he found all that out in a matter of hours. “Ok, now what?” I spat.

Peanut came toward us. He closed his eyes before speaking. “Th-the on-on-only wa-wa-way to b-b-b-b-bring them ou-out is to -ra-rrr-race.”

Samara came over and entered the conversation. “What does that mean? How do you know they were even involved? Have any of you confirmed that?” she said nonchalantly while sipping her water.

Chevy’s eyes rolled slowly toward her. She looked at him and shrugged. “What? I’m just saying,” she mumbled.

Streets jumped in. “They’re both right, though. Those niggas are not going to miss a challenge. Don’t get me wrong, I’m ready to fuck some shit up over my brother, but I also don’t want to off no innocent niggas, I agree with the race.”

Dio pointed at Streets. “Hop-along, you can’t do shit with a fucked-up leg.

So, you wouldn’t race anyway. I say we initiate the race, but until then, we find out what we can.

That way, if those niggas try to pull something slick, we will be ready.

I’m telling you now. I’m shooting first, asking questions never. ”

Chevy nodded. “This is y’all’s last week of school, enjoy it because we’re not going to wait for those niggas to come to us because we’re going to them.

” He paused as he turned to Samara, “Come home for Christmas break. Won’t be any shacking up during the holidays, and Dio, don’t worry, your daddy brother is hosting Zoomas this year. ”

Zu shot up from the couch. “The fuck. No, I’m not!” he barked.

Chevy smiled. “Nigga, yes, you are. Take it up with Freckles. I want all this shit resolved before Zoomas.”

With nothing left to talk about, everyone began to leave.

Chevy came up to me before walking out the door, “After the holidays, you and I need to talk. I’m going to let you enjoy the moment, but I haven’t forgotten.

Whatever it is you think about me, I can assure you, you're wrong. So, I suggest you do your homework, but you got to see me,” he finished and walked out.

Dio tapped my shoulder. “You too, nigga, bye.”

“Dio, don’t put your fucking hands on me. Look, I’m trying to be cool and get with this whole program, so hear me out, I was thinking—”

“How are y’all a part of the same crew and don’t get along?” Samara jumped in.

My eyes cut at her.

Dio stepped in front of her. “Aht, aht, nigga, not that one. Better ease up. You do that to the girl across the hall, not her. Whatever you have to say, better always be toward me,” he paused as he crossed his arms over his chest. “I don’t get it.

How are you a part of Chi Kappa Chi and you don’t display an inch of fucking brotherhood? You’re weird, gang.”

I sucked my teeth. I was getting ready to dig off in his ass when Samara came forward. “Date night!” she yelped. “Why don’t you bring Paige with me and Dio? Like a double date,” she offered.

I pointed at. “You know what, Samara, I like you. Matter of fact, let’s invite Peanut, Alyse, and Scooter,” I paused as I glanced at Dio.

I knew he wasn’t going to turn Samara down because of the love he had for her. His nose flared. “Look, he’s not a bad guy. Despite how you feel about his brother. You’ve got to trust me.”

Samara clapped her hands together in excitement. “I will start planning,” she squealed.

I said nothing more as I left the house.

Dio slammed the door right behind me. I stood between the two apartments, gazing at Paige’s door.

I wanted to knock on her door and check on her.

The soft side of me wanted to do all the romantic shit, but the dark side of me wouldn’t allow it.

As much as I wanted to be with her, I couldn’t.

There was no Paige and Braylen if Beans and Piggy could no longer exist.
