I stood in the one place where it all started for me. Although the location had changed, the Zoo remained the same. The hustle, the teachings, the fallouts, and even the deaths took place at the Zoo. I walked around as my eyes landed on every single one of the Zoo crew.
Streets, the nigga whose story is still waiting to unfold.
Peanut, the nigga with no voice but speaks with his fists.
Mali, the one who had enough heart to know what was best for him.
Beans, the nigga with two sides and a whole lot of fucking pride.
Monfua, a solid nigga with heart who stands on business.
Sasha, the heart of a queen who still awaits her crown.
Preach, my nigga who found the side that works for him.
Diamond, the nigga with the jokes, but loyalty had never been questioned.
Foe, my jack boy with a hard head but the heart of a true gangsta.
Dio, my twin and a true muhfuckin Prince.
Zu, the man who learned to love without having love.
The man who has been down since day one and Harvey, my best friend until the muhfuckin end, stood before me.
The single thought of me creating something I didn’t think would work turned out to be the best decision of my fucking life.
It shaped me, made me strong, tested me, and ultimately showed me what true friendship and family was.
My head slowly nodded as I glanced at each one of them in their orange and black jackets.
My eyes filled with tears because a nigga’s heart became warm.
Although I didn’t want it to end, I knew the Zoo’s story was done.
A tear trickled down my face as I embraced the journey.
It was time to let everyone truly spread their wings as our lives were shifting. It was time to raise our kids, guiding them through this treacherous world so their stories could be told. Another tear fell.
Zu walked up to me as he placed his hand on my shoulder. “I know what you're thinking. It’s not the end, my nigga. It’s only the beginning of something greater. Let’s leave room for others, because when it’s our time again, we’ll be back like we never left.”
My head nodded slowly as it dropped. I took a moment to embrace everything and everyone who had put a nigga on. I embraced every single person who stuck beside me through it all. My head slowly rose as I allowed the tears to do what they do. “Zoo ova everything!” I shouted.
They all came in. “Zoo ova everything!”
We all left the building to meet up with everyone else at Bishop’s lounge. Everyone’s bike revved except Sasha, who drove on behalf of Mali. The smoke built, leaving no room for visibility. I flipped my visor down, raised my hand, and pointed. “Nigga, let’s ride!” I shouted and took off.
When we arrived, we hurried inside. Everyone waited for us as the countdown neared. I rushed over toward Z, who tossed one of those New Year hats on my head. Everyone began to count down. Three, two, one. “Happy Zoo Year!” We shouted as the cameraman snapped a photo.
Just like that, the Zoo will be forever remembered!
ZOO OVER EVERYTHING!
