Hearing the teasing tone in Abi’s voice has sparked my interest. She holds out her hands and pulls me up from the couch.
I wrap my soft pink blanket around my body and follow her into the bathroom.
Taking my seat on the closed toilet, I yawn sleepily, trying to keep my eyes open as she undresses and hops in the shower.
I probably should have warned her that she didn’t test the water before jumping in, but the bitch woke me up. She deserves to be scalded.
“Ouch, that’s hot,” she shrieks, jumping back from the water, and I try to muffle my laugh into the blanket.
“So, are you going to tell me or what?”
“We had sex. A lot.”
“Tell me everything.” I roll my eyes while attempting to mirror her excitement.
And tell me everything she most definitely does.
Every single detail, things I wish I could unhear.
I’m no prude, but hearing everything he said and did to her makes my skin crawl.
I can’t help but imagine that sickening smirk of his.
“Hey, so I was hanging out with Sam yesterday,” I say, cutting her off.
“Even after you hooked up with Gaia?” she asks with a slight edge of judgment in her voice.
“Firstly, Gaia isn’t just a hook-up.” Her need to belittle my relationship, seconds after bragging about her own, irritates me. “And secondly, that has nothing to do with Sam.” I attempt to shrug off my annoyance and move on.
She pokes her head out from behind the shower curtain and gives me a disapproving look.
Oh my God. I forgot about this higher-than-mighty, ‘I’m in a good relationship, and you’re not’ snobbery.
She acted the same way when she started dating Mark, and she didn’t come back down off her high horse until the magical fairy dust started to wear off.
“Sam told me something about Brooks.”
“Well, if Sam said it, it must be true,” she says, rolling her eyes. I don’t know why I bothered.
“You know what, don’t worry about it. I’m sure it’s nothing, and Brooks is different with you, right?”
“Right,” she says confidently, turning off the water and stepping out of the shower.
I hand her a towel, and as she wraps it around her body, I get up from the toilet and pad back over to the couch. I lay down and pull the blanket up over my face, wishing that she had never woken me up.
