“I know the second Harper shows up, you drop her like she’s nothing. You are lucky to have a girl like Abi. If you don’t watch out, someone is going to come along and show her the way she deserves to be treated,” Sam shouts. I’ve never seen him so angry. It’s actually kind of hot.

“Don’t you fucking talk to me about her!

You have no idea what we have,” Brooks yells back, taking a step closer to Sam in an attempt to be more intimidating, but his effort at bravado is almost laughable.

Sam towers over Brooks. His dark hair has grown over the last few months, too busy finishing up his degree and working at the gym to get a haircut.

I personally like it a little longer. His tattoo pokes out of the sleeve of his t-shirt and runs down the rest of his muscular arm.

I wonder if it came down to it, who out of Brooks and Sam would win in a fight.

They’re both buff in their own ways, and if you had asked me before tonight, I probably would have gone with Brooks.

He has some deep-seated rage inside him, almost as if he’d have Japanese throwing stars or a shiv in his pocket.

He’d fight dirty and sucker punch Sam before he even knew they were in a fight.

But I’ve seen glimpses of Sam’s temper when it comes to protecting people he cares about, so I’m not counting him out just yet.

I used to think he was soft, that he would never do anything to hurt anyone, but each time he pulls me close when we walk down the street or a guy looks at me for a beat too long, I can see that he’d be willing to inflict immense pain standing up for someone he loves.

Gaia pulls my attention away from the overflowing display of testosterone to point out that Abi looks like she’s about to blow chunks.

We rush over to her and position our bodies on either side of her to help her remain standing.

“Your whole relationship is you locking her away from the world, then you treat her like shit the second somebody else comes along.” Sam stares angrily into Brooks’ eyes. Neither one is backing down.

“You’re fucking jealous. I know you wanted her since the day she moved in.” Brooks clenches his fists at his sides. He’d better not take a swing. I was trying my hardest to like Brooks, but if he puts his hands on Sam, I will have no other choice but to jump in.

“She’s going to blow,” Gaia warns, bringing my attention back to Abi. She’s making a horrible sound like she is trying to madly swallow back vomit.

“This isn’t about me.” The muscles in Sam’s jaw flex as he clenches his teeth.

“No, you’re right. This is about that slut, Jade. All I had to do was mention that I had a car, and her panties were off. You never could let that go.”

“This isn’t about her, either. It’s about you thinking you can use girls, call them sluts and then move on to the next one.

Abi doesn’t deserve to just be another girl you fuck and then fuck over.

None of them do! You make out that Harper is this pathetic stalker you can’t get rid of, but I’ve seen you with her. You’re the problem, not them.”

This is all very entertaining. I almost wish I had popcorn, but Abi is oblivious to the tea that is being spilled right in front of her. All the colour has drained from her face. Gaia was right, she looks like she is about to throw up. We pull her over into the alley.

“It’s ok, Abs, let it out. You’ll feel better,” I say, letting her know that we have her back. As soon as the words leave my lips, Abi projectile vomits all over the ground, exorcist style.

“Brooks!” I shout over my shoulder towards the street. As much as I was enjoying their little spat out there, Abi needs him more.

“Is she ok?” Brooks asks as he rushes into the alley. All anger has left his demeanour and has been replaced with concern. I guess he does love her. That’s the only reason why someone would put up with this much vomit.
