Chapter 6
Cole
On the way to my penthouse from MD’s, Jordan kept trying to get me to talk about what happened with Ellie. I kept shutting him down because I needed to get my own emotions under control.
We’re back now, and Jordan is annoyed with me. We walk off the elevator and through the hall, passing the kitchen and dining room to sit on the couch in the living room. I flop down, and Jordan sits on the opposite end.
“OK, we’re here now. What the fuck was all that, Cole?” he asks. I sigh and take a moment before I start explaining to him how fucked up everything has become.
“I was at MD’s Friday. No one was free to come with me, but I wanted to go out after the week I’d had at work, so I went alone.
I was at the bar when Ellie and Bri walked in.
I ended up going over and talking to Ellie, and we fucked in the bathroom.
She ran out immediately after making up bullshit excuses.
She never told me her name or anything about herself.
All I have been able to think about since then is her, but I knew I’d never see her again.
Then this morning, Sarah brought my new chief accounting officer into my office. Turns out, Ellie is my new employee.”
“Fuck,” Jordan says, shaking his head.
“Yeah. Fuck … The first woman I want to attempt to spend more than one night with, and not only does she not want me, but she is also an employee.”
“Wait, what do you mean you want to spend more than one night with?” Jordan asks, and I can hear the surprise in his tone.
“It doesn’t matter anymore. She doesn’t want anything serious to happen, given how many times she has turned me down. That night, she even said it was a one-time thing before we did anything.”
“I’ve never seen you talk about someone like this. Are you sure you want to just give up?”
“Even if I tried, she doesn’t want anything. She told me she broke up with her ex recently, and now she just moved here. I’m worried that he really hurt her and that’s what made her want to move and take the job here.”
“Shit. Well now what?”
“I don’t know …” And I really don’t. I cannot get Ellie out of my mind, but she wants nothing to do with me.
If she did, she wouldn’t have been flirting with Jordan earlier today and she wouldn’t keep turning me down.
I don’t ever try to have any type of personal relationship with my employees, but for her, I’d make the exception.
There is just something about her that has drawn me to her since that first time I saw her.
Ellie
After work today, Bri came over to my apartment, and I told her about how my first day went. She decided we needed to go out for a couple of drinks, since it was a rough day. I agreed, not expecting Cole’s face to appear once again.
Now we are on our way back to my apartment when Bri basically yells, “I still can’t believe you slept with your boss!”
“Shut up! I didn’t know he was my boss! And if I would have known he was going to be, we never would have had sex.”
“He did not like that you were flirting with Jordan when he walked in. You should have seen the look on his face. It was really hot how jealous he was.”
“We weren’t flirting. I didn’t even really like him. We were just talking.”
“Yeah, you didn’t like him because you have the hots for your boss!” she yells, laughing.
“Will you stop yelling that! I don’t have the hots for my boss,” I exclaim quietly, looking around to make sure no one, like our driver, is listening to us. She can be so embarrassing sometimes.
“Ellie, you told me it was the best sex of your life. Then you told me how hot he looked in his suit at work today. Then you told me he felt you up in the break room. There is no way you don’t feel anything for that man.
” I know she is right, but it would be so wrong for so many reasons to pursue anything with him.
“I didn’t say he felt me up! He reached over me for the mug that I was having trouble reaching so I didn’t drop it. Plus, he ran away like I smelled as soon as he grabbed it for me.”
“He probably just had to hide his boner,” Bri says, laughing as we walk into the apartment finally.
“Bri! That is not what happened,” I say, denying what she says even though part of me believes it too.
“Well, we all know you don’t stink, and he clearly got upset when Jordan was flirting with you … So …”
“Even if I did like him and he did like me, we cannot do anything about it. First of all, Jason and I just broke up. I don’t need to hop into a new relationship or whatever so fast, and second of all, he’s my boss! That’s not ethical.”
“I’m sure the company has some type of work-around.
A form of some sort where you both sign saying you are in a relationship.
Most companies do now. Ellie, I’m just saying if you like him, why not just test the waters?
Even if you have to have a sex-only relationship.
Do what makes you happy.” She continues, “But it’s getting late now, so I’ve got to get going, I work early tomorrow. Love you, bitch!”
“Good night, Bri. Love you too.” We hug quickly, and she leaves.
I start preparing for bed and my workday tomorrow.
I keep thinking about Cole and everything that has happened since Friday and everything Bri said.
Shaking the thoughts away, I climb into bed.
My life is messy right now, and it is so unethical to have a relationship with your boss. We need to just move on.
