Chapter Fifteen
Roadkill finished his workout, showered, sent Jenna a good morning text then went in search of food.
Sometimes one of the guys cooked breakfast on the weekends, but there was no set schedule, and it was hit or miss.
When he made it back to the common room he found someone had cooked, but all that was left was a few biscuits and a little bit of gravy.
It wasn’t what he’d been hoping for, but it was better than having to cook for himself, so he helped himself and took his plate to one of several tables scattered around one side of the room.
While he was eating, he watched as a few of his brothers trickled in, most filling coffee cups and sitting down or taking it with them as they headed out to whatever they had going on today, while a few poured bowls of cereal and ate that.
When Roadkill was through eating, he refilled his coffee and headed for Cypher’s command center.
He knew the other man was up and in there because he’d been one who’d gotten coffee and taken it with him.
When he reached the command center, Roadkill knocked on the open door. Cypher looked up.
“Hey, I was putting stuff together to call you.”
“Good. While we’re at it, I have another name to give you.”
Cypher shot him a scowl. “Another man being ugly to your girl?”
“No, a teacher making inappropriate comments to the point all the girls in his class are uncomfortable. Like they have organized a system so no girl is ever alone with him.”
“What the fuck? What school is this?”
“I can’t be a hundred percent sure, but it’s a middle school so probably Semmes. I do have a name though, she said Mr. Goldman.”
Cypher his several keys, took a few notes, then twisted his chair around to face Roadkill.
“I’ll start looking. Are you ready for what I’ve found on Burkett?”
Roadkill glanced around, grabbed a spare chair, dragged it close and sat. “Tell me.”
Twenty minutes later he’d heard it all. It took everything he had to keep from hoping on his bike and beating the shit out of the fucker right now.
But no.
He’d do this right.
“Can you hold on to this until about two this afternoon, then reach out to Sherrif Rigsby and give him everything?” He wanted Jenna to be at the Driftwood.
He would go in and have a drink, so he could be there too.
He wanted to see it all go down, but he wanted to be able to make sure Jenna didn’t get caught up in any of it.
Since there was no evidence of Burkett’s activities at the bar, he didn’t think it was likely, but he wanted to be there to be sure.
“Sure. Are you sure we want to turn this over to him?” Cypher said, watching him.
“I am. This is small time shit. It’s not worth any of us trying to be in on the takedown.
” There were takedowns bigger than what Burkett would end up being all the time.
If the Warriors were going to risk blowing their cover, then it would be for something more than a small-time dealer.
That didn’t mean he wouldn’t be there to watch.
They discussed a few more options, then moved on to what Roadkill had missed with the club, and with Hex over the last week.
Roadkill had spent more time at Savage Iron than usual this week, and he’d spent all day the day before with Jenna and Lacey, or most of it, and he hadn’t spent as much time with his brothers as he normally did.
By the time he left Cypher to his research, it was pushing eleven. Jenna would be headed to work soon, if she wasn’t already on her way.
Spotting Slide in the common room, he headed in his direction.
“Hey,” the club treasurer said as Roadkill approached.
“Hey, yourself. What are your plans for today?”
“Not much was gonna kick back, maybe turn on a game. We’re getting close to play-offs.”
“How you feel about hitting the Driftwood with me for a drink.”
Slide wrinkled his nose. “Why would we go to that dump again?”
“To watch the bartender get arrested.”
Slide’s brows lifted, but he didn’t say anything.
“And to make sure my girl doesn’t get caught up in it.”
“And there’s the real truth,” Slide said, a satisfied smile creeping across his face.
“But after watching the way he treated her, I’m in.
But do we have time to hit Miller’s for something to eat first?
I feel like my belly button’s about to rub a blister on my backbone.
And trust me, there is nothing you want to eat at the Driftwood. ”
Roadkill lifted one shoulder and let it fall.
“Sure, why not.” He glanced at his watch. “Want to leave here in fifteen minutes? That give you time to do whatever you need to?”
“Sounds good. I’ll see you then.” Slide tipped his coffee cup back and drained it, then stood and walked away, taking his cup with him. Roadkill headed for the garage. He wanted to grab an extra helmet in case he could talk Jenna into going for a ride with him.
