Chapter 65

RILEY.

“Are you not going to follow her?” This was the Nth time that my Beta asked me the same question, and I still shook my head, giving him the same answer.

My eyes followed as Nadia and two older women walked out of the boutique where she stayed for the whole afternoon.

I could see them inside the boutique. At one point, she was almost jumping, like she was having the time of her life.

She was happy here. She looked radiant and healthy.

Even from a distance, I could see her face glowing with contentment.

This was something I wasn’t expecting to see. Something that made my heart clench with pain.

I thought she would be miserable like me. But it looked like I was the only one who felt that way. While I was pining for her, she had moved on. But I had yet to see if there was anyone who was making her move on from me easily.

If I let my temper go, I would have approached her and demanded an explanation, but I knew better. I drove her away. It might be that she didn’t want to leave me in the beginning, but once she did, she realized she was happier without me.

And maybe she was right. Maybe she didn’t need me. I was nothing special. I was just someone who could easily be forgotten.

And maybe being here would be good for her. In this place, I would not be able to hurt her.

I saw her as she kissed both females goodbye and went inside the apartment building alone. I followed her movements until I could no longer see her.

My gaze then darted to the window on the third floor, the one she was occupying. After a few minutes, the lights went on, and I saw her open the curtains and look at the road below her before she drew them closed.

“Should we go to her apartment?” Dominic asked, his forehead creasing.

“No. We’ll just stay here.”

“Come on, man! I’m hungry. We’ve been sitting here the whole day. We didn’t come all the way here just to watch Nadia. If you don’t want to talk with her, let me get the job done.”

“Fuck off! Go buy your food and go back to the hotel. I’ll stay here.”

“Whole night? You will stay here for the whole night?”

I pressed my fingers to my temples and nodded my head. “Go ahead. I’m okay here.”

“Fine. Because I’m hungry. Do you want me to get you something to eat?”

“No. And don’t come back. I’ll pick you up from the hotel tomorrow.”

“Sounds good. You know, you can just tell me if you want to see her alone.” He chuckled, and I didn’t answer back. I didn’t have the energy anymore. He could think of whatever he wanted to think of.

I leaned my elbow on the window as I watched my Beta slip off the car and go on his way.
