Chapter 92
NADIA.
After the commotion with Bella and Trent a few days back, the packhouse was back to normal. Riley’s family flew back to Atlanta on a private plane the following day so that Bella wouldn’t miss her exams.
I had no idea that Riley had a private plane, which he said he barely used. I guessed there were things I still had yet to learn about my mate. But other than that, I had no complaints.
Riley and I went back to our routine. While he worked today, I visited the day care centers around with Beta Dominic trailing me.
I closed the book I was reading, and the pups, who were around six and seven years old, clapped their hands.
Some of the pups requested one more story, but their teacher told them I needed to be home to the Alpha, and everyone just nodded their heads, as if the word Alpha had so much weight to them that they didn’t question it anymore.
After talking to the head of the daycare center, Beta Dominic and I walked to the car waiting for us.
“Do you know if the Alpha is home already?” I asked him since I couldn’t reach his mind.
“Yes. I was mind-linking with the Gamma earlier. They arrived an hour ago.”
My brow hiked up at his words. It was unusual for Riley not to reach me once he entered the territory, and I wondered if there was something wrong.
“Did you tell Sebastian that we are heading home?”
“No. Not yet.”
“Don’t tell anyone. I want to surprise Riley.” I smiled at the Beta, letting my eyes sparkle as I mentioned his name, so he wouldn’t suspect that I just wanted to see what my mate was up to.
“Sure.” He answered as he opened the door and let me inside the car.
We drove in silence, and once we arrived at the packhouse, I didn’t wait for him and went inside immediately, heading for Riley’s office.
I turned the knob and pushed the door open to see Riley gathering documents off his desk before slipping them inside his drawers, but I didn’t miss the worried look on Gamma Sebastian’s face.
Riley’s face was devoid of emotion before he smiled at me and stood up from his chair as if he didn’t hide anything.
He walked up to me and snaked his arms around my body before he gave me a long kiss, not minding that his Beta and Gamma were around us.
My hands flew to his chest as I balanced myself while tilting my head to look at him. “Why didn’t you tell me you were already home?”
“You were busy at the daycare, so I didn’t bother you.” He crouched down in front of me before his hands trailed and played with my bump. My stomach was still not big, but a bump was already visible.
“What was the document you placed in your drawer?” I asked.
He glanced up at me before turning his attention back to my stomach, kissing it softly. “Nothing of importance. Just some documents I got from Darvin that I need to review.”
“Can I see it?” I asked him, my eyebrows raising.
His hands went to my sides as he nuzzled my bump with his nose. “Mommy is so…”
“Riley… show me. No secrets, right?”
“I’m not sure if it’s the right time to show you those. Can you trust me on this one?”
I crossed my arms over my chest before I let out a sigh. “If you don’t show me those, I promise you I will not be able to sleep tonight. I will crawl out here and check it for myself.”
“Nadia…” He stood up and brushed his hand over his hair before letting out a big sigh.
“Riley, no secrets, right?”
I saw him throw a glance at his Gamma before he went around his table and opened his drawer. I walked to the front of his desk and waited for him to lay out the documents he had.
My hand flew to my chest as my breath stopped at the sight of a dead body in all of the pictures that Riley placed on the table. My mouth opened as I tilted my head up to look at Riley before returning my gaze to the pictures of my dead uncle.
Blood was everywhere, and it looked like he had been tortured before his head was cut off.
“Nadia… Say something.” A worried look flashed in his eyes as his jaw tightened.
“Who killed him?”
He shrugged his shoulders before he answered. “I have no idea.”
My gaze met his, and I was trying to read his eyes, but I couldn’t see anything. He was good at hiding his emotions and the truth in his eyes.
I turned around without saying anything and walked out of his office. I heard him mutter a curse before the door shut behind me.
Did he kill my uncle?
