41. Sloan

Sloan

It’s been three days since I was shot and I'm finally getting out of the hospital. Cody helped me out to the car and I wasn’t surprised to find Jax waiting with a big smile on his face.

The two of them have barely left my side in the past three days.

I really thought Jax would’ve been out with friends as soon as he could be, but he’s been my shadow through all of this.

“Where are we going? My apartment is that way.” I point behind me and frown.

“Oh, please. Do you really think we’d let you leave us?” Jax turns to face me long enough to roll his eyes.

“But your house is in that direction.” I point towards the left as I examine the scenery passing us by.

“I wanted to show you something,” Cody says softly from the back seat.

Instead of arguing or asking where we’re going, I lean my head back against the headrest and close my eyes. This has been a long week and I honestly don’t care where I go as long as Cody’s by my side.

A few minutes later, we turn onto Mulberry Lane and right into the driveway of Cody’s house. He doesn’t waste a second helping me out of the car and grabbing my crutches. I hobble to the front door and we step inside.

I gasp as I take in the finished space. The walls are all painted the colors I picked out. The kitchen is exactly how I’ve always dreamed of my kitchen looking. The carpets are in and everything looks ready to move in.

“What do you think?” Cody murmurs.

I spin around to face him and find a shy smile playing on his lips and his hands are tucked inside the pockets of his pants.

“It’s perfect. I'm kind of jealous right now.”

I move further into the kitchen and run my fingers along the smooth granite counter tops. I can imagine cooking in this kitchen while our kids run around the house giggling and screaming as Cody chases them. I can picture us curled up on the couch and watching a movie at the end of a long day.

“When are you…” The words die on my tongue when I turn around to face him and find him down on one knee.

“Sloan, I’ve loved you since the second I laid eyes on you our freshman year of high school. The time and distance we spent apart didn’t dull my feelings for you and I don’t want to spend another day without you by my side. Will you marry me?”

I nod my head as a tear trickles down my face.

This is all I’ve ever wanted in life. It’s been my dream since the first date Cody took me on and I realized what an amazing guy he was.

I don’t know what I did to deserve this wonderful man, but I will be grateful to have a husband like him for the rest of my life.

After Cody slips the ring on my finger, he wraps me in a hug and holds me close. He sways me back and forth with a big smile on his face.

“I don’t want us to go back to my old house or your apartment. I want us to move in here so there aren’t any bad memories. I want to get married as soon as possible and spend the rest of our lives together.” He presses a soft kiss to the tip of my nose.

“I like the idea of that… Shouldn’t I recover before we get married?”

“No. I want you to officially be mine as soon as I can make it happen.”

“Alright, Bromeo. Let’s get married.” I grin as he rolls his eyes, but he can’t hide the smile on his lips.

“I think you spend too much time with Jax,” He murmurs as he kisses me softly.

“I know I spend too much time with Jax, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Because wherever Jax Robinson is, that’s where Cody Robinson will also be.”

“You’re the perfect woman for me. Do you realize that?”

“I'm not, I just understand your twin relationship and I’ll never make you choose between the two of us.”
