Chapter 14

Mylah

I’ve gone from freezing with Tide to sweating here. I’m in a dark room with a bed, and that’s it. The only light comes from the window, but since the sun has gone down, there’s nothing. It’s black. And I’m scared.

I haven’t seen anyone since I was brought in here. Maybe I should be happy about that. Maybe not. Whoever bought me hasn’t shown up, and I can only imagine why. There’s too many bad thoughts that linger in my head. Nothing good can come from this.

Fear. That’s not something I’ve ever known.

I’ve never had anything to fear. Fear wasn’t an option in my line of work.

I had to be the best. And I strive to do that every day.

My heart breaks a little in my chest when I think about Bella and all the dogs.

I miss them. It sounds strange to miss an animal the way you’d miss a human, but I do.

And Tide. God, how I miss Tide already. I miss him just being here with me. Knowing that I wasn’t alone. But that’s all changed. I am alone.

I turn my head and try to release some of the tension in my neck and shoulders, but it does little good. Creaks come from the hallway, and then the door is opened slightly. I slink back against the wall as I wait for whoever is about to enter the room.

“I have rules here. You run, you die. It’s pretty simple. You don’t speak to the staff as they won’t respond to you anyway. You eat when and what you’re told. There are no other options. You will work out daily for a minimum of one hour. My girls will stay in shape.”

“Who are you?”

“You can call me Mr. Padgett.”

“Why am I here?” I need an answer to why he bought me.

“You’re going to be my new slave, Mylah.” What? A slave? I shake my head as the man in front of me smiles. It makes me sick to my stomach. He isn’t a bad-looking man, but there’s a darkness about him that I can’t seem to get away from.

“And if I won’t?” I ask, my voice breaking slightly.

“You don’t have a choice. You will be punished. And I can assure you there won’t be punishments that you like. I’m very strict when it comes to my girls.”

“How many girls?”

“You ask a lot of questions, Mylah. I both admire and hate that. When you leave this room, you speak to no one. Is that understood?” I nod my head, but he shakes his. “Words.”

“Yes.”

“Good. You will address me as Mr. Padgett or Sir. That’s it. Your time here is valuable. You will learn all you need to learn before being sent to your new owner.” What the hell is he talking about? This makes no sense. I thought he bought me.

“I thought you were my new owner.”

“I’m your trainer of sorts. I will make sure you know all the things needed to be a proper slave before you leave here.

” Now my stomach sinks. He isn’t keeping me here.

How the hell will Tide ever find me? He won’t.

That’s a reality I need to learn to deal with.

He isn’t coming for me. There’s no way he could know where I am.

“I don’t understand,” I whisper more to myself than to him. He smirks and walks closer, grabbing my chin in his hand and forcing me to look at him.

“You don’t need to understand. You just need to obey. It’s that simple, Mylah.”

“It’s not that simple.” I slap his hand away, but he comes back at me full force. He grabs my face roughly in his hand and squeezes until my lips pucker.

“You will not slap my hand away from you. You will not raise your hand to me at all if you know what’s good for you.

You are not in charge here, Mylah. I am.

” I want to do it again, but my face hurts where he’s squeezing it.

What good would it do me to fight? Then it all hits me.

Why shouldn’t I fight? Why should I let him take over my life?

Instead of listening to the rational part of my brain, I raise my hand and slap at his arm.

He smirks, and it’s a sick and deadly look.

He grabs my wrist and jerks me off the bed and onto my feet.

Then he shoves me to my knees roughly before I have the chance to react.

“On your knees is a good place for you.”

“I won’t do this. I won't do what you want me to do,” I tell him.

“You might not want to now, but soon you will.”

“No. I’ll never let you break me,” I hiss. His hand comes around to the back of my hair, grabbing a handful before pulling my head back so that I’m forced to look up at him.

“In time, Mylah. All in good time.”

“Fuck you,” I say through gritted teeth.

I won’t let him do this to me. I will fight him every inch of the way.

As quickly as his hand fisted my hair, it’s gone, and his palm is connecting with my cheek.

It stings and tears build up in the back of my eyes, but I don’t let them fall.

I blink them away, keeping them at bay. I won’t give him the satisfaction of seeing me cry.

“I will be fucking you in time. You will learn to give in to my every desire, and you will learn to like it.”

“I’ll never fuck you. I would rather die,” I bite back at him. He smiles and wraps his large hand around my throat before lifting me to my feet. I claw at his hand, trying to get some air in my lungs as he stares at me. He likes it. He likes it when I’m like this, Helpless to him.

“We can arrange that as well. Don’t follow my rules, Mylah, and you will wish for death.” He holds on as my head begins to spin. I try and try to suck some kind of air into my lungs, but it does no good. His hold is too strong.

Just as I feel like I’m going to pass out, he releases me, and I drop to the floor, grabbing at my neck as I breathe.

“You think you’re any different than the other girls before you? You’re not. They all try to be strong in the beginning, but I can tell you now that you’ll lose in the end.” With that, he turns and walks back out of the room, and I listen as the lock clicks into place.
