Chapter 19
Ifish another burner phone from the drawer and activate it. Encryption app? Check. Timing is good but I’m going to text a new schedule as this Georgia and Joseph problem will need closer watching.
“Yes?”
“It worked,” I say. “They didn’t suspect it wasn’t a CNC frat event. We got some nice audio from when they sat at a table.”
“And? Bad news?”
“The girl remembers Mr. Beast.”
“Shit. Have you told him?”
“Not yet.” I will have to though.
“What do you need me to do?”
“Put someone on them to watch them. He’s not on the passenger list so he can’t be traced from her description, but we need to know what they do next. If they ID him, they might follow that back to me and you. Anything they do, we have to know. Anything outside the estate.”
“Got it. Leave it to me.”
“Roger and out.”
I break the phone, lean back in my chair, and pick up my forked tail and give it a twirl.
It clanks when it hits the desk’s edge. A smear on the end makes me bring it closer.
Blood or girl come? Could be either. It was inside her.
When I wipe it across the stain, it leaves a red mark on my skin.
It’s blood. Tonight was fun, though I have a feeling what we will be doing soon will be even more fun.
Real death ups the stakes to the moon and back.
