Unexpected Chapter – By Rose Bak

EPILOGUE – OLIVIA

Two months later…

“Welcome to the Silver Falls Library,” Dante announced. “I’d like to give my special thanks to our wonderful planning committee and our co-chairs, Olivia and Seth.”

The spectators broke out into applause.

“Now I’ll invite you to tour the library and see the wonderful work that’s been done,” Dante continued.

“If you’d like to make a donation for future library purchases, please stop by the donation box at the front desk or see any planning committee member.

There are also volunteer sign up forms at the desk if you’d like to help out. ”

I looked around the space with pride. It was a relatively small space, but we had a wide variety of books from romance to military thrillers to sci-fi.

There was also a nice non-fiction section that included a wide variety of biographies.

And we still had shelf space to grow as more books were donated.

Our community members walked through the library, all of them excited about the newest addition to the Silver Fox Falls community. I heard Seth laugh and looked over to see him chatting about something with Sam. I couldn’t help the sappy smile I sent him when he looked up and winked.

“How’s living together going now that you’re doing it for real?” Julie asked.

“Good. Really good.”

Seth had finally moved out of Julie’s condo and after a lot of soul searching and negotiation I’d sold my condo, and we’d jointly purchased a larger place in my building.

My tiny one bedroom was fine for me but with Seth bringing his stuff, we needed more space.

Having a two bedroom unit where he could set up an office made the most sense.

Then we’d bought some new furniture together which had made the space our own.

Right before we bought the new condo Seth took me to meet his kids, and then he met mine. I’d worried it would be awkward, but both sets of kids seemed thrilled that their parents had found love. We were planning a big family dinner soon to introduce the kids to each other.

“Do you think you’ll get married someday?” Julie asked, nodding towards Seth.

I shook my head. “No. We did the legal stuff like medical power of attorney, updating our wills, and opening a joint bank account, but we decided there’s really no reason to get married. It won’t change what we have now.”

“You’re just going to live in sin, huh?” Julie teased.

“Yep, that’s right.”

After a few minutes I asked, “Do you have a new tenant for your condo yet?”

“No,” Julie answered. "I’ve had some interest but I’m looking for the right person.”

“Someone who will take good care of your place?” I asked.

“No,” she smirked. “Someone who needs to fall in love.”
