Chapter 27 #2
Working with desperate efficiency, Sadie installed a backdoor program that would allow LSIMT to remotely access Dr. Patel’s entire system.
The files were too extensive to download in the time they had available, but creating a permanent link would ensure that federal investigators could retrieve every piece of evidence once the operation was exposed.
After completing Dr. Patel’s office, she returned to Dr. Selinski’s office to confirm that Todd was finishing the same backdoor program, having been given step-by-step instructions by Casper. She quickly checked and breathed another sigh of relief. “Good work,” she said, leaning close to him.
Todd looked up at her and nodded. “Almost done. Just hold on a little longer.”
Hearing his voice helped to steady her, grounding her in a way that she hadn’t felt safe in days.
She was grateful that while focused on the mission, his protective awareness never wavered.
“What else did you find?” she asked, peering over his shoulder at the monitor displaying what appeared to be financial records.
“Partnership agreements with something called Regenerative Biosolutions,” Todd replied. “I wonder how many of the others here are involved?”
Sadie struggled to focus on the intelligence they still needed to gather. “I’ll check the other offices. If this operation is as extensive as it appears, there will be evidence on multiple systems.”
“You good?”
Nodding silently, she then whispered, “Hitting Yelena Mirov’s office next.”
They left the two doctors’ offices the way they found them, and given the clear by Casper, walked across the hall where Todd unlocked Yelena’s door.
“If you’re okay, I’ll check the next two offices,” Todd said, seeming to now trust that Sadie wouldn’t pass out.
“Go. I’ve got this,” she assured, her hand reaching out to grip his. He squeezed her fingers in return, then moved to the next office.
After installing the program linking the computer to LSIMT, she scrolled through Yelena’s surveillance files. Her own name jumped from the screen, causing her breath to catch in her throat. Her heart stuttered as she opened the document and read.
GUEST OBSERVATION REPORT - CONFIDENTIAL Subject: Sadie Hargrove, Room 47 Observer: Y. Mirov
Subject displays concerning behavioral patterns. Observed apparent supplement consumption during breakfast monitoring, but body language suggests possible deception. Hand movements consistent with palming rather than ingestion. Recommend enhanced surveillance and alternative delivery methods.
Update: Initiated secondary protocols per Dr. Selinski’s instructions. Morning water service now includes Compound B dissolved in the filtered supply. Herbal tea preparations enhanced with an increased dosage of Serum 7. The subject appears unaware of modifications.
Update: Massage therapy protocols initiated. Tasha instructed to use enhanced oil blends for maximum transdermal absorption. Subject showing signs of early-stage negative cognitive impact - slight tremor, occasional disorientation.
The clinical language describing her systematic poisoning made Sadie’s compromised stomach clench with fresh nausea. They’d been watching her for days, cataloging every suspicious movement, every sign that she might not be the compliant victim they required.
They knew. From the second day, they knew I wasn’t taking the pills.
Anxiety slammed into her, but it was the mental anguish that hit as well. I failed. My first in-the-field mission, and I failed.
Her fingers trembled as she continued reading, each entry documenting the escalation of their assault on her body and mind. The water she’d trusted, the tea she’d sipped thinking it was safe, every massage that had left her feeling strange and disconnected—all of it had been weaponized against her.
Then the last comment on her record. Update: Recommend Rebalancing Transfer.
She gasped at the evidence that they planned on getting rid of her. Staring at the words, she jumped when Todd reappeared.
He reported, “I’ve connected with the computers in the offices of Brock James and Jake Wilson.”
“Todd,” she whispered, her voice tight with horror. “You need to see this.”
He appeared beside her instantly, his expression darkening as he read over her shoulder. She could feel the rage radiating from him like heat from a furnace, his protective fury barely contained as he processed the methodical violation she’d endured.
“Those bastards,” he growled, his hands clenching into fists. “They’ve been poisoning you for days.”
She lifted a gloved finger and pointed at the last entry. “And they plan on getting rid of me.”
Todd radioed into LSIMT what they’d completed, his voice harsh.
Casper replied, “We’re getting the transmitted records now. Finish, retreat, and rendezvous at the pickup location.”
The knowledge that her careful deception had been discovered so early that everything she’d ingested since had been contaminated sent fear and fury through her body. But it also explained why her condition had deteriorated so rapidly despite avoiding the obvious supplements.
No wonder I feel like I’m dying. They’ve been dosing me with everything… water, tea, massage oils. There was no way to avoid it.
She saved the file to her secure drive, adding it to the growing mountain of evidence that she hoped would destroy Dr. Selinski’s and Dr. Patel’s work forever. But the personal violation felt like a knife twisting in her chest.
Landon radioed, “Just did a dig into their partners, Regenerative Biosolutions. They’re funding Serenity Dunes in exchange for clinical trial data on unapproved treatments using regenerative injections, neurological detox agents, and compounds that haven’t even entered Phase I trials.”
The scope of the conspiracy was staggering. This wasn’t just one rogue doctor conducting unauthorized experiments, but was a coordinated effort between multiple entities, using wealthy spa guests as unwitting test subjects for pharmaceutical compounds that could be years away from legal approval.
“They’re definitely targeting wealthy, isolated women specifically,” Sadie observed, scanning the demographic profiles displayed on screen.
“Women with significant financial resources but minimal family connections. Perfect victims because they can afford the treatments, and nobody asks too many questions if a few of them disappear.”
The next hour passed in a blur of passwords cracked and files accessed, each computer system revealing another layer of the conspiracy that had operated behind Serenity Dunes’s carefully maintained facade.
Yelena Mirov’s system contained guest surveillance reports, detailed observations of who might be becoming suspicious or resistant to treatment protocols.
Brock James had files tracking the physical response of guests to various compound combinations, noting which delivery methods produced optimal results with minimal adverse reactions.
Jake Wilson, the nutritionist, maintained detailed records of dietary supplements and their pharmaceutical enhancements, while other files revealed the massage therapy program’s true purpose.
Systematic transdermal delivery of experimental compounds was used under the guise of therapeutic treatment.
Each discovery sent fresh waves of nausea through Sadie’s compromised system, though she couldn’t tell if the reaction was pharmaceutical or emotional. Focus. Document everything. Get the evidence that will destroy this place.
But as she worked to install backdoor access to the final computer system, her vision began to blur at the edges, her fingers struggling to find the correct keys. The drugs were winning their battle against her, and time was running out faster than she’d hoped.
“Todd,” she called out, her voice carrying more urgency than she’d intended. “I need to finish this quickly. I’m starting to lose focus.”
He appeared beside her within seconds, his hands steadying hers on the keyboard as she completed the final installation. The warmth of his touch anchored her to the mission, reminding her that she wasn’t fighting this battle alone.
“Almost done,” she whispered, watching the progress bar crawl toward completion. “Just a few more seconds.”
The computer chimed softly as the program finished installing, creating permanent access routes that would allow LSIMT and federal investigators to retrieve every piece of evidence they’d discovered.
Dr. Selinski’s conspiracy was now exposed in its entirety, documented and preserved in ways that couldn’t be destroyed or denied.
We did it. We actually did it.
But even as triumph flooded through her chest, Sadie knew their most dangerous moments still lay ahead. They’d gathered the evidence, but getting out alive with proof of what they’d discovered would require more than cyber skills and determination.
It would require the kind of tactical expertise that Todd had spent years perfecting, and the hope that her deteriorating condition wouldn’t make her a liability when they needed to move fast.
“Time to go,” he said, sliding his arm around her waist to provide physical support that was becoming increasingly necessary. “Let’s get you home.”
Home. The word had never sounded so precious, so full of promise for a future that suddenly felt possible despite everything that had tried to destroy it.
Together, they moved toward the exit, carrying with them the evidence that would finally bring justice to Serenity Dunes and the women who’d suffered in its carefully hidden nightmare. And I’m getting out just in time!
