Flashback
Three years earlier.
Mumbai.
First day of MBA semester.
And the city was already drowning in rain.
Traffic choked the streets near the university while impatient horns echoed endlessly beneath grey skies. Students rushed through puddles carrying files over their heads, trying desperately not to arrive late on orientation day.
Meanwhile-
Aadhira Malhotra was fighting with her scooter.
"Start."
Nothing.
She narrowed her eyes.
"Don't embarrass me today."
The scooter made one tragic sound before dying again.
Aadhira stared at it in betrayal.
"Unbelievable."
Behind her, traffic moved aggressively through the narrow signal crossing while rainwater splashed across broken roads.
Her white kurti was already damp near the sleeves. Hair tied messily. Backpack hanging dangerously off one shoulder.
And she was late.
Perfect.
Muttering under her breath, Aadhira finally kicked the scooter alive again and sped toward the university road-
just as a small child suddenly ran into traffic chasing a football.
Everything happened too fast after that.
A woman screamed.
Brakes screeched violently.
And from the opposite direction-
a black luxury car accelerated directly toward the crossing.
Aadhira's eyes widened instantly.
"HEY!"
Without thinking, she swerved her scooter hard toward the child.
At the exact same second-
the black car turned sharply too.
The child was shoved safely aside.
But the collision became unavoidable.
CRASH.
Her scooter slammed sideways against the expensive car with enough force to throw her balance completely.
The road erupted into chaos.
People shouting.
Rain pouring harder.
The front headlight of the black Aston Martin shattered instantly.
Aadhira stumbled off the scooter breathing hard while the child's mother grabbed her son crying nearby.
"You idiot!" someone shouted from the crowd.
Then the luxury car door opened slowly.
And Arjun Oberoi stepped out.
Rain hit his black shirt immediately.
Tall.
Broad-shouldered.
Sharp jaw tense with anger.
Dark eyes lowering toward the massive scratch across his car.
The entire front bumper was damaged.
Silence spread strangely through nearby students and drivers.
Because people recognized that car.
Recognized him.
Arjun looked at the broken headlight.
Then at the scooter.
Then finally at Aadhira standing in the rain.
Completely soaked.
Still trying to catch her breath.
For one second-
neither spoke.
Then calmly-
"You hit my car."
Aadhira stared at him in disbelief.
"You almost hit a child!"
"I avoided the child."
"With your billionaire spaceship?"
His eyes narrowed faintly.
Nearby people watched nervously.
Because Arjun Oberoi was known for many things.
Patience wasn't one of them.
The rain continued pouring between them while Aadhira pushed wet hair away from her face angrily.
The child's mother approached shakily.
"Thank you beta... thank you..."
Aadhira softened instantly. "He's okay?"
The woman nodded emotionally before pulling her child away from traffic.
Arjun watched the interaction quietly.
Then his gaze shifted back toward Aadhira.
And for the first time-
he noticed the scrape bleeding near her wrist.
"You're hurt."
Aadhira looked down briefly.
"Fantastic. Now both my scooter and my hand are broken."
One of Arjun's security men moved toward them immediately.
"Sir, we should call someone-"
"I'm fine," Aadhira snapped instantly.
Then she looked at Arjun's car again.
The cracked headlight.
The damaged paint.
And sighed dramatically.
"Okay fine. I'll pay for the damage."
The nearby crowd nearly laughed.
Pay?
That car probably cost more than an apartment.
Arjun seemed amused too.
"You'll pay?"
"Yes."
"With what exactly?"
Rude.
Aadhira glared at him immediately.
"I have money."
"I'm sure you do."
That tone.
That rich-man tone.
Instant irritation flared inside her.
Without another word, Arjun pulled out his wallet calmly and removed several notes before holding them toward her.
"Get your scooter repaired."
Silence.
Fatal silence.
Aadhira stared at the money.
Then slowly lifted her eyes toward him.
"Oh."
Arjun's brows lifted slightly.
"Oh?"
"You think I need charity."
"That's not what I-"
Before he could finish-
Aadhira grabbed the cash from his hand.
And threw it straight back against his chest.
The crowd audibly gasped.
Even his security looked terrified now.
Rain dripped silently down Arjun's face while the notes scattered onto the wet road around him.
Aadhira stepped closer slightly.
Chin lifted.
Eyes blazing.
"I saved a child," she said coldly. "Not auditioned for your sympathy."
Something dangerous flickered across Arjun's expression instantly.
Not anger.
Interest.
Real interest.
Because nobody-
absolutely nobody-
talked to him like this.
But Aadhira wasn't done.
She looked once at his damaged car.
Then suddenly grabbed a loose construction brick lying near the roadside.
Arjun's security moved instantly.
"HEY-"
Too late.
SMASH.
The second headlight shattered completely.
The sound echoed across the road.
Complete silence followed.
Aadhira dropped the brick calmly.
"There," she said sweetly. "Now both sides match."
One student whispered, horrified-
"She's insane."
Arjun stared at the destroyed headlight for several long seconds.
Then slowly looked back at her.
And unbelievably-
the corner of his mouth twitched.
A laugh.
He was trying not to laugh.
Which somehow annoyed Aadhira even more.
"You're unbelievable," he murmured.
"You're welcome."
Rain poured harder between them.
And for some reason-
Arjun couldn't stop looking at her.
Not because she was beautiful.
Though she was.
Not because she was dramatic.
Though clearly she was.
But because she stood in the middle of chaos completely unafraid of him.
No hesitation.
No fake politeness.
No interest in his money or surname.
Just fire.
Pure reckless fire.
Then one of the university buses passed nearby.
And both their eyes landed on the huge orientation banner across it.
MUMBAI INSTITUTE OF BUSINESS DESIGN
MBA SEMESTER - FIRST YEARS
Silence.
Aadhira blinked once.
Then slowly looked back at him.
"No."
Arjun's mouth curved slightly.
"Yes."
Her entire face fell dramatically.
"You have got to be kidding me."
For the first time fully-
Arjun smiled.
Sharp.
Dangerous.
Entirely too attractive.
And somehow already devastating.
"This semester just became interesting."
