Chapter Fifteen

Thumper, Pope and Bishop just stared down the hall after Torin carried Daisy away.

Thumper reached for his phone and called his office. He spoke softly into the phone. When he hung up, he looked at Pope and Bishop. “She might be right about what happened to her mother.”

“What do you mean?” Pope frowned.

“Eleven years ago, the remains of a woman was found. Hell, half her body was gone but they did find a hand nearby and that hand had rope wrapped around their wrist. Now back then, Demon lived near Many Louisiana and the woman’s body was found within a three-hour range of the crime site.

” He shook his head. “They had no way of knowing who the woman was but Daisy supplied the missing part of the woman’s story.

The gators took one of her legs and tore the body to shreds but they did find enough of her to know someone had cut her deep and long. The pool of blood told them that much.”

“Sweet Jesus,” Bishop muttered under his breath.

Pope nodded. “The night we found Daisy in the basement of our bar... she was wounded by a blade to her side. Then later, when Torin was headed to bring her home her two brothers were searching for her and they came through the alley. She heard them coming and tackled Torin just as the shooting started. Apparently, she knew the sound of their engines and she threw herself onto Torin. So she caught the bullet to her shoulder instead of letting my son get shot in the chest.”

Callum spoke up now, “I had to deal with those brothers at closing time. They didn’t think they had to pay for their drinks.

After we threw them out they came back about half an hour later and shot up the place.

Now, we’ve heard little bits and pieces of her life but it’s hard to imagine a person living like that.

The more she told us the more it became clear that Demon really is an evil sonofabitch and his sons aren’t much better.

They were out to kill her and that is true.

They all should go to hell and burn forever. ”

Thumper nodded. “Well maybe we can give her something back by at least telling her where her mom ended up.”

Pope nodded. “It won’t be all we can do but maybe it’ll be enough for now.”

Callum looked over at Thumper and said, “I don’t think you should be as graphic as you were about it just now. Just maybe let her know that her mother was put to rest?”

Thumper nodded. “Yes, I know hearing the gory details won’t help a victim’s family.”

“What do you suppose that crazy as all hell Satan will do when he gets to Demon?” Cardinal wanted to know.

Pope just shook his head. “Nothing good that’s for sure and Demon is going to finally face consequences for probably the first time in his life.”

Callium clenched his hands into fists and snarled. “It’s about damn time. And I hope he makes it hurt.”

Pope nodded at him. “Yes son, he’s gonna make it hurt alright.

I don’t know how but he will make Demon pay dearly.

” He looked around the room again and said, “But we keep watching for more trouble. I don’t think Satan is done with us either.

We did make him look like a fool and I don’t think he’s gonna let us alone, not yet. ”

Scarlette had stood there for a bit to listen, now she spoke up, “That man is gonna start a war he can’t win. You guys have home field advantage.” She looked around the room and added, “Plus you outnumber him about three to one.”

Pope agreed, “Yeah, we do and you know what? I think he knows it too.”

Thumper cleared his throat and suggested, “Maybe he’ll come back here for a whole other reason.”

“And just what would that other reason be?” Bishop asked.

“Because Digger is still here,” Thumper pointed out. “And Digger belongs to Demon being his son and business compatriot. In fact, he was part of the plan to murder the entire Devil’s Spawn MC. Satan will have to make a statement so other MCs know not to touch them or cheat them.”

Pope glared at him for pointing out the obvious. “So how do we protect ourselves?”

At that moment they all turned to see Torin escorting Daisy back down the hallway to join them.

Daisy’s eyes looked red and her cheeks were swollen from crying. She stopped just inside the doorway and carefully looked around the room. “You think Satan is going after my father and my brothers in jail?”

Pope and the others all nodded.

Daisy walked to the nearest table and sat down. “Yeah, so do I. That might not be a bad thing in the long run.”

“Why do you say that?” Thumper growled. “It’s still murder no matter how you word it. Satan is going to kill everyone inside that jail cell associated with your father.”

Daisy nodded. “I know, but he needs to be held accountable, whether by the law or forces that he dared to destroy. He thinks the law can’t judge him because he’s paid for protection against just that.

He’s got lawyers and judges on his payroll and he pays them very well for the privilege.

So maybe it’s time for someone else to step in. ”

“Are you condoning what’s about to happen?” Thumper asked her.

Daisy shook her head. “No, I’m not condoning it, I just want it to stop.

My family has been taking and taking all my life.

Maybe it’s time they learned the hard way what happens to thieves, liars and men with no conscience.

” She shrugged. “And it would save the county money they would spend on three meals a day and free up three cots for someone else.”

“That’s merciless, sister,” Cardinal stated as he looked troubled by her summation.

Daisy raised her head to stare at him. “Is it? Well the Clusoe men are merciless. Would you risk your family to be safe if Demon ever got the chance to walk out of that prison? Because I’ll tell you something right here and right now, he’s done it before.

When I was fourteen, the police arrested him and Digger for a murder they made happen.

They were as guilty as sin and Demon was sentenced to twenty-five years in prison.

He spent maybe three weeks behind bars then his lawyer got him out when someone else turned himself in for the crime.

My father walked out free as a freakin’ bird.

I later found out he paid the other guy money, a hell of a lot of money to take the blame and he promised to take care of the man’s wife too.

Once the man was sitting in his cell, my father had someone in that prison shank him.

He died behind bars and my father went to his house and faked a home invasion.

He ended up killing the wife and the man’s young son.

So you tell me, does he deserve a chance by going to jail? Or should he face Satan?”

The whole room went silent as this shock of a story sunk in.

Then after a long moment Thumper asked, “Can you prove this?”

Daisy nodded. “Tell Fox to pull up the file named ‘Righteous 86.’ It’s all there in his own words.”

Pope looked over at Fox and nodded.

Fox pulled the section up and printed it off.

He stood from his chair and took the paper from the printer.

He handed it to Thumper and went back to his chair.

“I read some of it as it printed out and Demon admits and even brags about the deed. At least in his writing, he admitted to everything he’d done.

Like it’s a bragging right or something.

Like he was so cool that he got away with it all.

I hate to agree with what might happen to him at Satan’s hands, but he really is a monster. Just like she says.”

As Thumper read the report his face paled as he saw what Fox had. He looked up at Daisy and asked her, “Does he still have the pendant he took from the wife?”

Daisy nodded. “It had a Fleur de lei on it. He took it off the chair he broke when he ripped it from her throat and he had a Fleur mounted on a man’s ring.

He still wears it today.” She shrugged her shoulders and swiped at another tear that had rolled down her face.

“My father is simply a man with no morals or soul. The only ones he ever thinks about are himself or his sons. The world might be a better place if he wasn’t in it.

I think you all can agree with that.” She paused, then looked at Pope.

“I know you all think I’m being hateful about this.

But I wished for too long that he was a different person.

For my whole childhood I wished for that.

And once I grew into adulthood, I knew he would never change.

That it would never stop. That was why I grabbed that USB of evil deeds and took off.

So if you will excuse me I need to...” Her voice faded away as she got up and walked back down the hall.

Thumper reached for his phone and called the jail.

When the Sheriff answered the phone, Thumper asked, “Did you move the prisoners yet?”

The sheriff snorted. “Yeah, they are tightly set in security lockup.”

“I need you to check on something for me. I need to know if Demon was wearing a Fleur de lei ring.” Thumper asked him.

The sheriff snorted. “I don’t even have to look to tell you that, yeah he was wearing something like that. Even in cuffs, he kept fiddling with, turning it around his finger like it’s his good luck charm or something. It’s in his packet of belongings.”

Thumper now told hom the news, “Ok, I also need to let you know that Satan is going to try and kill them tonight. You see him and Demon were going to become partners in a drug ring and Demon gave Satan a sample of the pills they were going to deliver, except the pills were going to kill Satan’s whole MC.

He knows about them and we think he’s going to come for Demon and his boys tonight.

Before the team of Marshals arrive tomorrow. ”

The Sheriff was quiet for a long moment then he said, “I got state police on their way. Are you still holding Digger?”

“Yeah, he’s still here,” Thumper admitted.

“If Satan is coming here to destroy Demon,” The Sheriff replied. Then he won’t leave Digger out. He might take Demon and his MC out but he isn’t going to miss anyone. You guys better be warned about him.”

“We are and if Satan comes here tonight after Digger, we’ll be ready for him,” Thumper assured him. Before he could say anymore the Sheriff let out a bellow, “I got to go, I just saw the prisoners on video. They have started fighting in security.”

The call ended.

Thumper looked at Pope. “Well, I think Satan is making his move at the jail.”

Pope looked around the room then he shook his head. “Damn, I was hoping this wouldn’t actually go down tonight.”

Bishop scoffed. “You should have known a man like Satan wouldn’t just let this go. Demon was willing to kill his entire MC. That’s not something he could ever forget or forgive.”

A half hour later...

There were gunshots from several places outside.

The men all rushed to their positions and started to fire back.

As the battle raged, a man slipped over the fence. Like a shadow, he moved to the shed and with a small crowbar he broke the lock then he slipped inside.

The gunshots covered the sound of the man inside screaming.

He was now gagging and struggling as the shadow strangled him.

The shadow man just held the man down and watched his suffering.

He leaned over and a sliver of moon light showed Satan’s face.

He grinned and said, “Well Digger, your daddy fucked this up good. He missed killing me but I didn’t miss killing him and your two brothers.

They should be in hell any minute now to join you when you arrive.

” He just held Digger down and watched his suffering.

Digger tried to loosen his hold but to no avail.

Satan smirked. “No one on the face of his earth is gonna cry over your kin, and nobody will miss them either. The next time your daddy makes a deal, it’ll be with the devil himself.

” He saw the deed was done as he wanted to do this himself.

He tossed Digger’s body down to the floor like discarded trash.

Satan then slipped out the door and back over the fence. He texted a cease fire order to his men and then disappeared into the woods.

His men made their way to the meeting point and they waited for the rest of the brothers to join them. When the others arrived, they all rode away in silence.

The Next Day...

Pope answered the call from the State Police. A lieutenant told them there had been an incident at the jail and they would need to come down the next morning. They were needed to tell their accounts of this case. Pope listened and asked, “What happened?”

The voice on the other end said, “Some of the prisoners in the security cell died last night. They were given something and the State police think it was deliberate.”

Pope paused at this particular detail and asked, “Who died?”

The cop told him, “Members of the Demon’s Rage’s MC.”

“Which ones?”

“All of them we think?”

Pope quietly tapped his screen to end the call. Raising his head, he looked around the room and announced, “Well, he did it. Satan got them all.”

His brothers all nodded.

Finally, Bishop said, “Well, you know what they say. The devil will get his due.”
