Chapter Two
Sally stood in the doorway of her family room. Petal and Maverick were in separate sleeping bags in front of the TV. They were watching a movie. Dragon’s son was sixteen and she’d debated at first if leaving Petal at only eight alone with him. She’d spent the last two hours watching him treat Petal like a little sister. He’d even let her paint his fingernails when Petal said she wanted a spa night.
Sally was usually a good judge of character and Maverick was a kid she could trust. Cauldron and Deacon had shown up after the body finished processing. They’d sacked out on her screened in back porch. The Prospect was out front with the guy’s bikes on watch.
