Chapter 3

I stuffed as much stuff into my duffel that I could fit and zipped it up. The zipper didn’t close all the way, but I didn’t care. I winced when I lifted the duffel onto my shoulder and left out of the room.

Savion was still sitting at the island in the kitchen when I passed the door to leave the house. I took one final look at the house before tossing my duffel onto the passenger seat and hopping into my car.

I got out of there without looking back.

Savion and I needed time apart. I needed to see if this was really what I wanted.

Telling my family what happened was out of the question.

The last thing I wanted to hear was I told you so.

They tried to warn me about this man, but I wouldn’t listen.

I just had to find out the hard way. Even he tried to warn me.

Pulling into the parking garage of my apartment building, I parked in my parking space and got out of the car. I grabbed my duffel and entered the building. It was weird being back here after being gone so long.

“Hey, Solei. I haven’t seen you in a while,” Jennifer said as I passed her. She was heading for the elevator to take her dog for a walk.

“Hey,” I tossed over my shoulder and kept going.

When I made it to my apartment door, I saw that it was cracked open. Pushing it further with my foot, it creaked. “Hello?” I asked and dropped my duffel on the floor at the door. I removed my gun from my purse and eased into the apartment.

There was a body lying on the floor between the coffee table and the TV stand. Nearing it, I saw they were dressed in all black. I nudged the body with my foot. His big ass wouldn’t roll over, and I kneeled and turned him to see Savion’s emblem on his suit jacket.

Straightening my posture, I headed toward the back of the apartment, checking every room in the house to make sure that no one else was in here.

Empty.

Releasing my breath, I lowered my gun and slipped it into my waistline. Going into my bedroom, I pulled my drawer open on my dresser where I housed all my weapons.

“Hey, pretty girl,” I said when I removed my pink pearl assault rifle from the compartment. I made sure to get bullets for it as well.

Roaming around my apartment, I found everything in there that I’d need. I grabbed all my important documents because I had zero plans of coming back to this mufucka. Once I had everything packed up, I grabbed my phone and sent Grim a text.

Me: There’s a spill at my apartment. Going back to Savion’s.

I grabbed my duffel and shut the door behind me so that no one else would discover the body in there.

Heading to the elevator, I got on and went back to the parking garage.

I didn’t want to go back to Savion’s place, but he was right about one thing: I was safest there.

I wasn’t sure what was going on, but it needed to be figured out as soon as possible.

When I made it back to Savion’s lake house, I noticed my mama’s Maserati parked out front. I never told her that we were staying here, so I didn’t understand how she even found me here. Then she had the nerve to claim that she hadn’t been acting weird.

Powering off the car, I grabbed my things and got out.

I stepped up onto the porch and turned the knob, knowing that the door was already unlocked.

Entering the house, I eased the door shut behind me.

Voices could be heard coming from the kitchen.

I just knew Savion didn’t stay in there the entire time that I was gone.

“Where is she?” I heard Ma ask as I got closer to the kitchen door.

“I don’t know. Said something about going back to her apartment.”

“And you let her!”

“What was I supposed to do?”

“Keep her here with you!”

See, this was exactly what I meant. Why would she want Savion to hold me here? What did she know that I didn’t? They were keeping something from me, and I demanded answers.

I lifted my foot to intercept their conversation when I heard, “And she’s pregnant! You were supposed to protect her, not marry her and get her pregnant!”

My heart leaped to my throat. Whole time, Ma knew exactly what was going on but pretended to act shocked when she found out that I’d married Savion.

I rounded the corner, and Savion’s eyes landed on me. “What’s going on?” I asked and dropped the duffel at my feet. Ma gasped and turned to face me.

To be continued.
