Chapter 2
The safe house sat on a quiet rise outside the city limits, glass and stone, floor-to-ceiling windows that looked out over dark woods, a place no one in the life was supposed to know existed.
Demario had paid for it in cash years ago under a shell company that didn’t exist on paper.
Clean. Untouched. Exactly the kind of place a man went when the streets started hunting him.
He stood in the upstairs study with Rome, the door locked, the only light coming from a single desk lamp.
Maps and printed photos of known Russo associates were spread across the polished wood.
The empire was bleeding. Product routes disrupted.
Two more soldiers gone missing in the last forty-eight hours.
The Italians weren’t just testing, they were cutting arteries.
Rome leaned against the far wall, arms crossed, still wearing the same dark clothes from the night before. His jaw was set the way it always got when he didn’t like the conversation.
Demario didn’t waste time.
“The empire is bleeding,” he said, voice low and even. “Russo’s people knew exactly where I was last night. That means somebody sold the location or tracked us. I need eyes the Italians don’t already have. Somebody clean. Somebody they would never expect to be sitting at my table.”
Rome’s eyes narrowed. “You’re looking at me.”
“You’re educated. Law degree. Never ran a corner a day in your life. Never caught a case. Perfect.”
Rome pushed off the wall. “I don’t want this life, D. You kept me out of it for a reason. I went to school so I wouldn’t end up,”
“You my blood,” Demario cut in, stepping closer. “I kept you out for a reason. Now I need you in for a reason. You’re the only one they won’t see coming. You’re the only one I can trust with the legitimate side while I handle the rest. This isn’t a request.”
Rome’s jaw flexed. For a long second the only sound was the low hum of the air conditioning. Then he gave a single, tight nod.
“Fine. But when this is over, I’m done.”
Demario didn’t answer. He didn’t need to.
Neither of them noticed the soft shift of weight on the other side of the door.
Keisha stood in the hallway, barefoot, still in the silk robe she’d thrown on after the shower. Her heart was already beating too fast. She had heard every word. Somebody clean. Somebody they would never expect. Rome. Family. The kind of trust Demario didn’t hand out lightly.
She pressed her forehead to the cool wood and tried to breathe.
An hour later the house had settled into an uneasy quiet. Rome had taken the guest suite downstairs to make calls. Demario had told Keisha to rest. She had tried. She had lain in the massive master bed staring at the ceiling until the silence became too heavy.
She got up to find water.
The hallway was dark. Soft light spilled from under the door of the smaller sitting room at the end of the hall, the one Demario had claimed as a temporary office. She heard voices. Low. Male.
Rico’s voice.
Her stomach dropped.
Demario had sworn the location was sealed. No one outside blood and the two men already with them. He had looked her in the eye and said it.
She moved closer without thinking, bare feet silent on the runner.
The door wasn’t fully closed.
Inside, Demario had Rico bent over the arm of a leather couch, pants around his thighs, shirt shoved up his back.
Demario was fully clothed except for his open fly, one hand braced on Rico’s hip, the other wrapped around the back of Rico’s neck.
He was buried deep, moving in slow, deliberate strokes that were nothing like the brutal, humiliating fucks from before.
This was different.
Rico’s forehead rested on the leather, eyes closed, mouth open.
Soft, broken sounds slipped out of him with every thrust, half moan, half surrender.
Demario’s breathing was heavier, controlled, but the way his hips rolled, the way his free hand slid up Rico’s spine like he was mapping something he actually wanted to keep, was unmistakable.
Demario’s internal voice was quiet and damning.
I like this, the way he takes it, the way he sounds when I s start treating him like something I chose.
He had told himself it was power. Control.
Teaching a man his place. But the truth sat heavy in his chest now, undeniable.
The heat of Rico’s body, the way he clenched and pushed back, the quiet trust in the way he let Demario set the pace, it felt like the first time they weren’t performing for anyone. The first time it was just them.
Demario leaned over Rico’s back, mouth close to his ear, voice rough.
“You feel that? How deep I am?”
Rico nodded, a shaky breath leaving him. “Yeah… fuck, D…”
Demario’s hand tightened on the back of his neck. He thrust slower, deeper, angling until Rico’s whole body shuddered. The sound Rico made was soft, almost vulnerable, nothing like the broken noises from the warehouse or the living room. It was the sound of a man finally letting go.
Demario felt something crack open inside his own chest.
I actually like fucking him, And I don’t want to stop.
He didn’t say it out loud. He just kept moving, one long stroke after another, until Rico came with a quiet, wrecked moan, spilling onto the leather without being touched.
Demario followed a few seconds later, burying himself to the hilt and letting the pleasure roll through him in heavy waves, forehead pressed to Rico’s shoulder as he filled him.
For a moment neither of them moved.
Then Keisha’s breath hitched in the hallway, too loud. Demario’s head snapped up, but she was already gone.
Keisha ran.
Down the stairs, past the living room, past the kitchen, straight to the basement door.
She yanked it open and took the steps two at a time, heart slamming against her ribs so hard she thought it might crack.
The basement was finished, carpet, low lighting, a couch, a mini bar, but right now it felt like the only place in the house that wasn’t watching her fall apart.
She sank onto the couch, knees pulled to her chest, and pressed both hands over her mouth so the sob wouldn’t carry upstairs.
He had told Rico the location.
After everything. After looking her in the eye and promising the house was sealed. After swearing no one else would know.
He had still brought Rico here. Still fucked him in the middle of the night like it meant something. Like Rico was allowed inside the walls that were supposed to keep them safe.
In her mind the pieces locked together with brutal clarity.
Rico meant something.
Demario couldn’t leave him behind.
And that meant whatever was happening between them wasn’t just power or punishment or street lessons anymore.
She curled tighter, tears hot and silent, the sound of Demario’s low voice and Rico’s soft moans still echoing in her head.
Upstairs, the house stayed quiet.
But nothing felt safe anymore.
