Chapter 9
Dalton finally walks into my area of vision, phone up to his ear.
“Baby girl, you alive?” He laughs when I growl out ‘nope’ and he sits down next to me.
“Gunner says Sahara isn’t feeling very good this morning, so they are going to stay home today.
” I hold up a finger to Dalton, having him wait while I do some quick figuring in my head.
I groan and tell him to put Gunner on speaker phone.
“Gunner, I need you to listen closely. Follow my instructions and you will be an absolute hero in her eyes. Go into your bathroom and look in the cabinet under the sink. You are going to take a picture on your phone of the pack of pads and the box of tampons. Those are the only ones she will use. There should also be a heating pad under there, grab it.”
“Now look in the medicine area and find the bottle of Excedrin Migraine, get out three pills. Not two, three. Trust me. Do you have any soda with caffeine? If not, tea will work.” We listen to Gunner moving around on the other end of the phone.
“I found one can of Cherry Pepsi. Will that work?” He finally responds.
“Yes. Pour it over ice. But before you take it to her, I have more instructions. Be extremely quiet when you go into the bedroom. Put the glass and the pills on the nightstand. Plug the heating pad in and have it next to the bed.”
“Then you can whisper her name. If she opens her eyes and looks at you, tell her you have her meds. She will sit up to take them. Hand her the heating pad, kiss her on the forehead, and tell her to rest.”
“If she doesn’t open her eyes, just leave the stuff there where she will find it.
Find her phone and turn the volume off so no one can wake her.
Next, close the blinds and curtains to make the room as dark as you can.
Then quietly close the door behind you. Now, if you understood all of that, put the phone down and go do that stuff, then come back to the phone. ”
“Got it. Be right back.” Gunner says and we hear him sit the phone down.
I notice Tray is standing in the bedroom doorway, looking concerned.
Dalton quietly asks how I know all that stuff.
“We have been friends forever. I know my bestie.” We wait a few more minutes before Gunner comes back on the line.
“Okay. She took the pills and curled up around the heating pad. Now what do I need to do?”
“Good boy. Now you are going to go to the store while she sleeps. The picture you took, find the matching products at the store. You need to get at least one pack of pads and one box of tampons.”
“Next you are going to the candy section. Get the bag of Dove chocolates that has the assortment. It has to be the Dove brand. If they don’t have the assortment bag, grab a bag of dark chocolate and the chocolate with caramel.
This is something you will want to keep in supply at your house.
Next go to the chips. She will need something salty to go with the chocolate.
Fine the tortilla chips with lime. She isn’t picky about the brand, just get a couple bags.
And chunky salsa, medium or hot. Any brand. ”
“You should probably pick up some more soda as well. I will text you the list, so you don’t forget anything.
When you get home, put everything out on the kitchen counter where she can find it when she wakes up.
Take a handful of the chocolate and leave on the nightstand.
She will probably sleep for around 5 hours.
She will not feel like doing anything tomorrow.
You can bring her out in a couple days. Ok? ”
“What is going on? Is this normal? Oh god. Is this going to happen every month?” Gunner asks in a shaky voice. I softly chuckle before replying.
“Yes, brother dear. Welcome to the world of menstruation. Be glad you are not feeling the cramping and pain that goes along with it. Fair warning, the bleeding will start soon. Good news is that it should be over before the day of the wedding. When she wakes up later, she will tell you what she wants or needs. You should be good to go, but you can call for help if you need it. Head to the store and I will send you the list.”
Gunner mumbles a quick ‘thanks’ before hanging up. Tray had grabbed my phone and typed out the list as I was talking to Gunner, so I quickly look the list over before sending it.
I look up at Dalton and he is grinning at me. “You called my brother a ‘good boy’ and he didn’t even notice.” I didn’t realize that I called him that, so we have a good laugh over it.
Tray is still looking concerned but is now sitting on the bed by my feet. “Is this something we need to be worried about?”
“With your future lady friends, yes. If you are ever at the house with Sahara, yes. Even if Gunner is there, it won’t hurt to know how to care for her.
She can get really sick if precautions are not taken when it starts.
I think the stress of moving and the wedding coming up probably triggered it to start a little early.
She is normally on time with the meds before the cramps start. ”
“As for me … no but yes. Remember the time we talked about Dalton and I will not be having kids due to a surgery I had? Well, I don’t have to deal with the bleeding part, but I still get the cramps, food cravings, mood swings, and all of the wonderful crap that goes with it.
Luckily, I only have it happen every 3 to 4 months, and it usually isn’t as bad. ”
“Actually, that is probably why my back and hips have been bothering me the last couple of days. Does that answer your question?” Tray nods his head but is either still concerned or is deep in thought. I look up at Dalton since he is sitting on the bed next to my head.
He is leaning back against the headboard, still grinning. “Well, it looks like our plans for the weekend have just opened up. Any thoughts on how to spend our free time?”
