Her breathing was fast, her sweet, marzipan scent bitter, almost burned with fear. But rage sat alongside it; I felt the echo of it through the bond I refused to claim. Fury and terror and determination, all wrapped up in a stubborn bow.
By the time she stormed into view, I’d composed my expression into a glare. It shattered like a pane of glass when I saw her. I grabbed my chest as my heart crashed into an erratic beat, certain I was having a cardiac arrest at the sight of the killer in a dress of pure starlight.
