Chapter Ten Purity #2

I consider myself to be a real music connoisseur.

Specifically, a lover for all things R&B.

old or new, if it sounds good and has meaning, I rock with it.

When I shuffled my R&B playlist, Fatty Koo’s “Cruise Control” began to blare through my speakers.

Instinctively I began to bob my head to the beat of the music and sing the lyrics.

This song is a timeless hit to me. I just love good music and something that I can vibe to.

After about twenty-five minutes of riding and jamming to my music, I made it to my destination. I waited in my car until my girls arrived. That way we could all enter the store at the same time.

“Okay, the Queen is here. And I’m ready to shop until I drop? What’s the occasion?”, Jania asked.

“Your ass is always ready to shop. Money burns your damn pockets child”, Roni added.

“If you must know, my man is taking me out for a romantic dinner tonight. He sent me here to get something nice to wear for the evening”

“Okay thennnn Dominic, step your game up.”

I just smirked because it feels good for my man to get some kind of recognition from my friends.

Even Roni felt good about him setting up the date.

They were excited because after tonight, maybe the wedding planning will officially be in the works.

Me and my girls were overly excited about that.

Since the day I got my ring, that’s all I could dream about.

Day and night, just imagining what it’s going to feel like when I get to meet the love of my life at the altar.

We made our way into Sak’s and was greeted by the door attendee. I gave her my name, and she assured me that they had been expecting me. That put a smile on my face because he did exactly what he said he would do.

Me and my girls made our way to the back of the store.

“Attorney Brown asked me to pick you out some nice and elegant pieces for tonight. So, I have about five dresses that we can start with”

“Damn, she can’t pick out her own shit?!”, Roni questioned.

Her entire tone was laced with irritation. She sat on the velvet couch with her legs crossed, demanding an answer. Jania gave her a stern look.

“Roni chill, he’s just trying to create an experience for her”

“Experience my ass”, Roni said, rolling her eyes.

“It’s okay Roni. I’m embracing being catered to”

She said nothing to my response, but with the expression she wore on her face, I knew she was still annoyed.

It’s cool though. I think Roni is just reading into things too much.

That’s typical Roni fashion though. Regardless, I love my girl to death.

She’s just the one that doesn’t play about her friends at all.

Her eyes and ears are always opened for any bullshit.

Jania on the other hand is the softer friend.

She doesn’t question a whole lot unless you ask her to.

She’s really the friend that follows your lead.

Whatever you want to do, she’s with whatever.

I love that about her. Roni and Jania balance one another out.

I need them both because each of them provides something different in my life.

I made myself comfortable beside Roni after I was offered a glass of wine. I relaxed and tried my best to enjoy the experience. The stylist showed me each dress that she selected. I liked each of them, but I decided to stick with the all black dress with simple spaghetti straps and a high split.

To me it was simple enough but still made a statement.

It also complimented my shape nicely. I didn’t want to spend too much time going through different dresses.

I just tried on all five that she picked out and made my decision from there.

The girls help me pick out a nice pair of gold pumps with the accessories to match.

“Look sis, I’m happy that he’s carving out some time for you. So tonight, enjoy yourself. Don’t worry about work, don’t worry about baby boy. Just live in the moment. You’re about to be a wife sis.”

Jania held both of my hands as she instilled some positivity into me. Roni assured me that she loves me to death.

“You know how I feel about you girl. I don’t have to get all sentimental about the shit. Just know I’m not going to let anyone play on your top on no day”, Roni said.

We all erupted into laughter because the bitch didn’t crack a smile at all. The girl was as serious as a heart attack. That’s what makes her herself. She doesn’t play at all.

“Thank y’all seriously for meeting me here. Having y’all here, made the day even better. Hate I’ll be missing going out with y’all tonight.”

“No worries chick, enjoy your man. We’ll catch up soon”, Roni said.

“You mean it Roni?”

“I actually do.”

I smiled at my friend before pulling her into an embrace. I hugged both of my best friends before we all eventually went our separate ways.

When I made it home, I laid my clothes out on my bed. Of course I turned my jams on. I’m nothing without my music. It seems like every day my wedding song changes. Lately I have been listening to Cecily Wilborne’s “Soul Therapy” album. Her song Superheroes has been on repeat since I heard it.

Whenever I hear it, I think about the kind of love that Dominic gives me.

That man really makes me feel like superheroes are real.

I took my shower and sang my heart out as the song played repeatedly.

I sent my man a text to let him know that I’m looking forward to tonight. I have been all smiles all day.

I still had a little time before I had to meet Dom.

I made myself comfy on the couch and started a Facetime with my baby.

I wanted to see what they were doing. I know that he was good, but I was always sure to do my check ins.

I’m not the parent to spend hours or days away from my child and not check in.

Hell, sometimes my parents have to stop me from calling.

I can’t help it though. That’s just the way that I am.

After talking to my baby for about an hour, I started to prepare for my date.

***

I lined my lip with a chestnut brown liner and filled them in with a mauve pink lipstick. It gave that matte look, which was exactly what I was going for. Normally, I do a red lip when I’m wearing black. But tonight, I decided to switch it up.

Over the years, I taught myself how to do a simple beat that compliments me. I’m not a makeup artist by far, but I can honestly say I have gotten better overtime. I gave myself a once over in the mirror, and I was very pleased with my makeup and my appearance.

It’s something about looking good that makes a woman feels good. Anytime I’m done up like this, it always has my spirits up. I was in a good ass mood. I can’t wait to sit across from my man at dinner. To talk with him while staring in his handsome face.

The black dress that I wore complimented my hourglass frame to the T.

Though I hate that I had to drive myself. I understood that if Dominic would have come all the way to this side of town to get me, it would have made us late. I didn’t want that, so I complied with his request.

After applying another coat of lip gloss to my lips.

I grabbed my clutch and headed out of the door.

With every step my heels made contact with, they sounded off.

The drive over to the restaurant was a short one.

I guess you can say my heavy foot knew I was anxious to get there.

I was just anticipating the quality time, that’s all.

My soul was in desperate need of it. It was almost like a craving in a sense.

When I exited the car, I handed my keys to the valet. I took a moment to adjust my dress as I stood behind my car door. When I smoothed everything out, I made my way to the door of the restaurant. I gave the hostess Dominic’s name, and she escorted me to the table that was reserved for us.

The ambience was giving “date night”. Dimly lit with nice jazz music playing softly in the background. Our seating was closed off by a privacy curtain. It was a nice touch. I was thinking to myself that Dom had really outdone himself this time.

There were candles lit on the table. Five single roses were in a vase.

Each one had an important date written on the stem.

January 15, 2025, the day we first met. February 14, 2025, valentines day and our official first date.

April 13, 2025, the day we made it official.

July 7, 2025, the day he met my son and my family.

January 1, 2026, the day he proposed to me.

This was definitely a sentimental touch.

I just took in my surroundings and smiled at myself. Being in an establishment as fine as this one reminded me of how lucky I am. Most people can’t even afford to dine in a restaurant like this. Here I am, waiting for my fiancé so we can enjoy our night.

“Here is the menu, would you like to take the liberty to order drinks for you both while you wait”, the waitress asked me kindly.

“Sure, that’ll be great.”

I ordered Dom a shot of whiskey and got myself a simple martini, along with a glass of water.

It has been a while since I last heard from Dom.

Checking the time on my phone, I imagined that he was wrapping things up at work.

I can’t wait for him to see the extra effort that I put into my look tonight.

Any time we go out, I always make sure I’m looking good.

Tonight though, I took my time to make sure he notices the extra effort.

In an effort to kill time, I texted my girls to see what they were up to.

Though I was missing them and the girl’s night, I knew it was for a good cause.

I began to scroll on Pinterest and Lemon8 at some different DIY’s.

I wanted to find me a new hobby. Since Dom has been taking on so many new hours, it leaves me with nothing to do.
